College Football Week 14 - Conference Championship Games and Pseudo Championships

I am not sure anybody should ever survive a 1-11 season though.

Screaming racism because Hawkins had more time when Hawkins never went 1-11 just seems crazy to me. I don't know the situation though. There could easily be racism involved. But I think it is more likely for racism to prevent the man from every being hired than for it to be the reason he was fired after going 1-11.

There are alot of mitigating factors involved. And having the worst season and the worst losses in program history are enough to get fired. And I'm not saying he should have been fired. I just would have given him one more year.

I think we all know the real reason CU fired him: cash monies. They held on to Hawkins for so long because they couldn't afford his buyout, and they only hired Embree in the first place because he had little experience and so came dirt cheap.

Now they've got the Pac-12 monies rolling in and they're ready to get serious.

Apparently ACC is voting on Louisville tomorrow.

There are rumors that they had a vote this weekend and that Louisville was one vote short of the 75% (9 out of 11 schools) threshold to be voted in. UVA fans are saying that UVA, UNC, and WF voted against Louisville. I wonder if one of those schools changed their mind.

Pac-12 2013 schedule home/road rotation is out

This is our schedule (conference games not in order obviously).

Aug. 31 --- Boise State
Sept. 14 --- vs. Illinois at Solider Field
Sept. 21 --- Idaho State

Home: Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, WSU.
Away: Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA

We should be able to win all 3 of our OOC games. Oregon is the only home game in which a loss wouldn't be disastrous. All 4 road games seem like swing games, although UCLA is clearly the hardest one, followed by OSU. Stanford loses a lot, and ASU was decent but didn't set the world on fire this season.

Not a cakewalk to 9 wins but it's certainly doable if the team improves going into the season like we expect them to.

Ooh we miss Oregon and get Stanford in the Coliseum. We will probably lose to Oregon state.

We have seven home games next year. Are we joining the SEC?

OSU, Northwestern, and Portloland St for OOC. Zona, Wazzu, USC, and our OSU for conference home games.

Nice, I don't mind dodging ASU and Da Utes.

Those 3 probably want UConn instead. If that's the way the hypothetical vote went, and FSU and Clemson voted for Louisville, then obviously the one of those other three needs to swallow some pride and flip. My money would be on Wake.

Forgive the cross-post from the NFL side, but seems relevant here obviously. Local TV there but no idea about how any of that is allowed under NCAA or NFL rules

Knoxville, TN-News Channel 3 has learned former NFL coach Jon Gruden has a contract offer in hand from the University of Tennessee and a decision could be made as early as Wednesday. Part of the offer is Gruden getting a piece of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, who were recently bought by Jim Haslam, one of UT’s biggest boosters who played on the Vols’ national championship teams in the early fifties. He’s also the father of Tennessee governor Bill Haslam. A potential hangup could be over money Gruden may be owed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from his stint as head coach there that ended in 2008. The NFL is looking into the conflict of owning part of one team while getting money from another. Gruden is currently working as an NFL analyst for ESPN. He started his coaching career in 1986 as a graduate assistant at Tennessee where he met his wife, a former UT cheerleader. Gruden’s two head coaching stints in the NFL were with Oakland and Tampa Bay. He coached the Bucs to a Super Bowl win in the 2002 season.

Dolla Dolla bill. Five years and $27.5 million. LSU about to get hit up.

I'll just assume this is Jimmy Sexton using the other SEC Schools to increase his Client's salary at his current school. Wouldn't be the 6th time he's done that.

I think Sark's agent is doing the same thing with Arky, although he'd be a lot more likely than Les Miles to actually go if they threw a bag of money at him.

I thought the Big XIIXIX was supposed to be chasing lolsville?

They're going after ACC schools instead now.

Louisville is best choice for ACC, but not good enough to keep it alive, so many ACC schools want to bolt. (FSU, Clemson, NCSU will all bolt at first chance- those three schools really hate being in the same conference as Swofford and the blues)

Grats to MightyHealthy and the other Ville fans, you are free.

BREAKING: ACC votes to add Louisville sources tell @ESPN. Cards will be 6th team to leave Big East for ACC

lol

and good for Louisville I guess, but is that really an improvement?

I think the Louisville to ACC theme song should be this. Hell, the whole "Big East transforming into the ACC" theme song.

how is that going to be allowed?

I doubt it'll happen, but they said the only way he could do that and not violate NCAA rules of getting outside compensation is if the Browns owner were to give that portion of ownership to the university, who could then pass it on in some way to Gruden. So it's basically just skirting the rules. Barners would be proud.

LMAO

Check out this 1995-era countdown on the AJC's website. Times New Roman and all.

Man, the AJC is such a joke. They sure put a lot of effort into that countdown. The only good writer left there since Furman Bisher passed is Chip Towers. Jeff Schultz and Mike Bradley are a joke. Michael Carvell, the recruiting guy, is just a troll.

Athens Banner Herald and the Macon Telegraph are the best papers covering UGA at this point. ABH actually has a gameday app for iPad that has a preview for each game. Unfortunately I'm iPhone only so I can't get it.

His agent is George Bass. More likely Arkansas' AD is hooking up his old Michigan buddy with an excuse to get a raise. Free corndogs fo life.
