I really don't get the hate with the Alfred stuff. They established in TDK he can use all the computers, look up bios and all that jazz. He's Bruce's right hand man. Plus Bane is not in the LOS. He's in his own fucked up cult version. It makes sense he would let out that he was excommunicated in order to swerve people.

Now i guess i can agree there could have been other ways to do it. But this is fucking Batman! He's supposed to know his shit before he goes to battle. And Alfred giving Bruce help just isn't all that weird to me.

Bane was never excommunicated from the League. Rhas couldn't bear to look at his face because it reminded him of what happened to his wife, so he shut him out.

Yeah I don't get the whining either, Alfred TDK was all about cross-referencing addys for Bruce and doing the background checks on cops, he's all up in everyone's shit. He probably only knows of the LOS from what Bruce told him. And I can forgive the forced back-grounding on Bane because of how awesome it is.

What I can't forgive is why they misspelt Hiest on the newspaper clipping. Is that a comic reference or something?

It's like Sculli said, the Bane/LoS stuff could have been handled in a MUCH more subtler, non-hamfisted, and frankly more shocking and cool manner altogether. Get rid of Alfred's janky exposition, and only have Bruce discover the Bane/LoS connection when he first encounters him and gives the ".....but we are initiated, aren't we? Members of the League of Shadows...." line. Boom, connection/twist done in a much slicker fashion.

Guys I think everything sucked in this movie! Everything was a plot device or something!

But seriously as for some of the questions:

The henchmen Bane had were shown to be some fanatical followers who would follow Bane to whatever end. The guy who stays back on the plane in the beginning shows that.

Orphans were recruited because they had no other opportunities for work so they were easy to pick up and order around. I doubt they all know the master plan about the bomb going off no matter what. Bane is supposed to be a militant leader who rallies the the lower end of the economic scale to his cause by highlighting the corruption in the system.

While it might be awkward that Alfred knew the info and I agree with Sculli that the reveal of LOS during the first fight would have been so much better, why is it so odd that Alfred would have information or find out? He isn't just a butler. He mentions his past in TDK. Its well documented in the comics. Its been close to 9 years since BB and 10+ years since Bruce started training with and under LOS.

It would make sense he knows about them, Bruce filled him on everything he went through, and that Bruce/Alfred have access to information that the average cop might not even have. But yeah that scene could have been altered completely to just include the dialogue about the Wayne foundation. Would have worked better.

And oh yeah as for dumb friends...I once knew a poster on these very boards who claimed people didn't realize Selina was Catwoman until he told them and that Nolan didn't save Batman from the dead because the origina 89 Batman movie sold more tickets than TDKR.

So I went home yesterday, GF came home early. We ordered pizza and watched it. My 4th viewing.

I get very emotional during the 1st Bane Bat fight. I shed a tear during the "not everything not yet" scene. The last 5 min I have tears in my eyes.

Such an emotional movie for me. I rate it just above Lincoln as far as movie of the year.

I could watch a montage of Bane 24/7.

I think I have watched it 4 times solely because of him.

"Let the games begin"

This was a 9/10 for me. It gets better every time I watch it.

What makes you so emotional about it? What other movies have this effect on you man? I personally couldn't tear up/get emotional with this one at all.

I think my favorite movies are those that have made an emotional impact on me. Some have had me almost bawling lol.

Bane was never excommunicated from the League. Rhas couldn't bear to look at his face because it reminded him of what happened to his wife, so he shut him out.

I think he is saying that was an obvious swerve to throw off the audience. That the info about him being excommunicated and working as a hired mercenary would make sense for Alfred to discover and present to Bruce.

Same coat? It rhymes.

I wonder if Bruce had to pick up the coat from the gang he was running with. Like how Will Smith went back to Philly on Fresh Prince.

Don't know about him but for me I though Caine's delivery was great during his argument with Bruce. That scene got to me.

Then near the end when I thought they really killed Bruce right when the bomb went off I was like well they just killed off Batman and that got to me.

But I guess it all depends on the character right? Of all the comic book characters Batman was always my favorite so I guess it could be nothing to some people and a lot more to others.

You aren't on any mood stabilizers are you? You may want to adjust your dosage.

There's nothing wrong with the idea of Alfred being able to look up that stuff, it's just the way he delivers that information sounds clunky.

WAS IT REAL!??!?!?!

http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012/12/05/dark-knight-rises-michael-caine-on-alfreds-final-scene/

“They were there,” Caine said. “They were real. There was no imagination. They were real and he was with Anne, the cat lady, and I was happy ever after for him as I told him during the picture.”

As for Caine’s future with the character, he’s keeping an open mind. Nolan and Bale have said they won’t return to Gotham, but Caine’s Alfred could potentially turn up again, should he be invited. Perhaps in that long-discussed “Justice League” movie?

“I said to Chris, ‘If they do it again and they ask me to be the Butler, I’m going to do it,’” Caine said and chuckled. “He said, ‘I want 10%.’”

He wasn't joking, Michael.

So I want to pick this up for my g/f today. Thinking full trilogy on blu ray, but is the blu ray trilogy box set coming with a DVD version as well, or an online code so she could watch it on her macbook ?

I saw that just Rises on blu ray comes with dvd and ultraviolet packed in. Also, any suggestions on where to buy?

Sorry but that doesn't sound like Batman to me. Even though Bruce is very arrogant he's not dumb enough to jump into anything head first. Alfred gave him some info, He's like " fuck you i'm batman", overestimates Bane and gets fucked up. Comes back to finish the job. There is no reason to drop the one thing Alfred can do just to have some fancy clever twist with a movie/franchise that has more than enough.

I can respect that. Could have been written better sure. It just seems likes the beef is the idea Alred was able to get info on him. I remember people comparing it to SM3 which is ridiculous.

Blake doesn't need training, he just needs to keep watch of the automatons

Would be awesome if slowly there started to be sightings of Batman in Italy or wherever the fuck Bruce and Selina were at the end, and eventually Bruce leaves her and returns to Gotham and becomes an obsessed, bitter old man, setting up Kingdom Come: The Movie.

Yeah I cant say the same for BB and TDK. The first watch of TDK was the height and this movie keeps climbing up with every re-watch.

Still need to get it on disc.

How can you guys who went on this journey with Bruce not tear up?
When Bane fought Batman I was like wow this is going incredibly wrong. When Bruce is in prison and in tears over whats happening to the city I felt horrible inside.

When Catwomen pleads with him to leave that he doesn't owe them anything that hes given them everything I started to get teary eyed at his response.

Alfred got me twice.

The last 10 min are so powerful. We just went on this 8 hour journey with Bruce (trilogy)
and its coming to an end. That last 2 min are some of the most powerful imagery I have ever seen come together.

What movie are you guys watching?

artist, when I watch TDK now, it kind of drags for me and its tough to get through some scenes that don't involve the Joker.

I don't have that problem with TDKR.

I like Bruce's journey, conceptually, and I appreciate what Nolan tried to do I just think the execution is lacking.

Any chance OP can get updated with buying guide? I can't be the only one wondering what I asked above on this page.

I get what you're saying but I think the crux of the movie to that point was Bruce deluding himself into believing he was still a match for a LOS level enemy. The point of Alfreds speech is not to background the LOS shit but to basically tell Bruce how out-of-his depth and how much he needs to let Batman rest before its the end of him; Bruce of course arrogantly goes against the advice causing the rift between them. If Bruce walks into the fight against Bane blind, and gets his shit handed to anyway you don't really get the back-to-reality curve the character needed to experience.

Playlist Interview with Nolan

Did you ever see yourself as this blockbuster filmmaker starting out? Do you consider it a blockbuster?
It's a big movie. I think it's blockbuster. I grew up loving Hollywood movies, “Star Wars,” the ‘Bond’ films, these are the films that I first tuned into and then as you grow older and you start looking at more interesting and obscure movies and cinema. You get in all kinds of different paths and underlying my interest in independent film and my desire to work in the film genre and so forth, in the back of my mind I've always looked to the biggest scale Hollywood movies as to me the most satisfying experience at watching the movies, if done really well. And so that aspiration is always it for me, if I have the opportunity to do it. But I always wanted to give it a shot if I had that chance. So having had that shot, I really wanted to make the most of it and that’s what I tried to chase down with these movies.

I felt it too. The first fight with Bane especially, which right now I think is the best scene in the trilogy. A broken Batman giving everything he had left, which just wasn't enough against this monster. Bane telling Bats exactly what he was going to do before easily doing it and unmasking him was sad to see. Even Bane's minions look like they felt it.

I agree, Nolan gets a lot of unnecessary shit for his fight scenes but I thought this particular was very clean. Bane's punches looked awesome and the rain flicking off his muscles during the connections was a nice touch. I was surprised how much they got away with when I was battering his skull, it was pretty brutal.

Ahh man you understand. Banes every line in that fight is a masterpiece. Seriously. Who ever wrote that entire scene was on to something so special. The Audio is amazing too just the best scene in the trilogy for me too.

"You fight like a younger man, with nothing held back. Admirable but mistaken."

"Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!"

Just awesome awesome stuff.
