Alice Eve is in this?

This movie just got sexier!

Congratulations, Mr. Kirk.

The trailer looks awesome, but I hope this trailer isn't representative of the final product. I know the title of the film but why does it look so fucking dark? This doesnt make sense, first they establish the bright and shiny lens flare look of the Enterprise and now everything appears grey. WTF.

Another film where Kirk (and his crew this time) wont wear his /their classic uniforms? Another film where the Enterprise isn't the star of the film? I mean, yeah it worked for Star Trek, but I hoped / wished to finally get another SPACE adventure not some sci-fi shit on earth. :(

*confused*

Now that I think about it. Abrams was responsible for MI:3, Star Trek, Super 8 and produced a bunch of TVshows that are generally among the worst to have been aired and have fortunately been cancelled since. As far as his work on Lost is concerned, if I recall correctly, he hadn't done much besides directing the first episode.

I'm going to assume you don't watch much TV.

As a TV director and executive producer his track record has been pretty damn good.

Felicity - 4 Seasons
Alias - 5 Seasons
Lost - 6 Seasons
Fringe - 5 Seasons

For the latter two he has been nothing more than an executive producer credit for most of their run but you make it sound like most of his shows have been cancelled after a season. I think he Executive Produced Undercovers and Alcatraz which both lasted less than a season. Otherwise, his TV track record is pretty good.

He has produced and directed some exciting entertainment over the years. Is he the greatest of the bunch, no, but I wouldn't go throwing around "among the worst to have aired".

JJ Abrams hasn't made a film that would justify the name recognition he has managed to garner in the past few years. I am not saying he should have been making award winning films. But just films that are actually..you know, films?
Every single one of his films feel like they are just not films. By that I mean that you don't finish any of them thinking ''well that was really great, I liked what they did with so and so. or ''I'll watch it again insights into the characters and their motivations that I might have overlooked.''
Every time I try to watch them or even find myself thinking about watching any of them, I realise how they are just not meant to be lasting at all.

He desperately wants to be the new Spielberg, that much I gather. However, he has neither the talent nor the vision Spielberg brought to the scene and continues to do. I don't particularly love Spielberg either, but I can see him for the director he is.

Pop in any of Abrams' supposed films and tell me honestly that you would be able to watch them once more in one sitting.

He is good with really brief, short, action set pieces. But that is honestly all there is to him.

Will still be watching this though.

The fact that his stuff is easy to digest escapist entertainment is the very reason I can pop it in again. They're fun movies. That's all I'm really asking for when I go to see an Abrams flick. He's successful at it too. No, not on the level of Spielberg, but he's good.

And it looks like PoI will be getting many seasons!

Watching at work, so no sound.....but based 100% on visuals, it looks fucking dope and 110% in line with ST2009's aesthetic, which is a great thing. Can't wait to hear this badboy too in a few hours.

My most looked forward to blockbuster of 2013....HYPE!

ehhmm..this doesn't look like star trek at all... without the enterprise this could have been a random super hero movie and random star WARS movie teaser

Yeah if the trailer didn't have the Enterprise, any other ships, the cast from the previous movie, the uniforms, and lens flares this could have been a trailer for any movie.

Looks great, but haha I don't think Roddenberry would have liked this.

There's basically Star Trek, which was dead in 2009, and JJ's Star Trek, which we have now and is thriving. I can get ST nerds hating these films and thinking they're a bastardization of ST, but they're (those ST zealots) basically irrelevent now - with ST2009 the franchise was ripped out of the fanboys hands and given to the masses. Since I belong to the group that couldn't stomach the old ST, this pleases me.

ST2009 was basically the best Star Wars movie since ESB.

To be fair he's done a couple of movies but nothing has really taken off for him. Unstoppable was widely expected to do monster business and came up short.

With Jack Ryan coming out after Star Trek 2 it'll be interesting to see if he can actually become a leading man (who can 'anchor' projects) in his own right.
That's funny, I was under the opposite impression that Unstoppable had over-performed. I don't know how much more successful anyone could have expected a train movie to be.

'This Means War' on the other-hand was simply an embarrassment for everyone involved.

I grew up watching TNG and the following series and have always loved Star Trek of old, and I really enjoyed the new film, what group do I get stuck in? lol.

Which is ironic since most Star Wars fans hated the possibility of Abrams directing Episode 7.
But you are right, seeing the huge influence the original Star Wars had on ST2009, it would make sense for them to now take a much darker route (ESB style).

Not sure why people are complaining about the tone. The teaser doesn't seem any darker or grittier than the popular trailer for 09.

My favorite take on the first Abrams film is 'Star Wars plus Top Gun with Star Trek references tossed in'.

In general I have a lot of problems with the first film but overall I thought it was an 8/10 summer blockbuster.

I consider the Abrams films entirely removed from the Star Trek franchise that separately enjoy.

So..., not Star Trek at all then. Trek is, essentially, a submarine show. A show about a crew working together. Not a show about Top Gun esque pilots in isolated situations.

This is true actually. It's amazing how Tom Hardy managed to jump clear of that wreck (even before TDKR came out) but McG and Chris Pine seem to have taken that the blast from that bomb right to the kisser.

I fucking love Alice Eve. She's gorgeous, smart and has the sexiest goddamn accent.

Her father is an insane person. I imagine that the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree.

Tom Hardy already Nolan on the bandwagon. And is a legitimately great actor rather than a pretty face who can act a bit...

That doesn't seem very fair. Three quarters of Hollywood are plagued by insane parents. Eve seems to have a very good head on her shoulders and a very good place for me to rest my head below her shoulders, if you take my meaning.

I agree with all of that.

Pffft Hollywood? Hollywood has nothing on the eccentric, downright bonkers nuttiness of the RADA trained Mr Eve.

Trevor Eve takes great delight in telling people how he messed up his back...., after falling off a pony.

Oh Trevor.

Aren't we now getting a Hobbit movie in Summer and the third part in December? Or have I had too much to drink?

Summer 2013:

May:
- Iron Man 3
- The Great Gatsby
- Star Trek Into Darkness
- The Fast And The Furious 6
- The Hangover Part III

June:
- After Earth
- The End Of The World
- Man Of Steel
- Monsters University
- World War Z
- Kick-Ass 2

July:
- The Lone Ranger
- Grown Ups 2
- Pacific Rim
- The Wolverine

August:
- 300 2
- RED 2
- Elysium

Pretty fucking "meh" summer.

Not a problem for me. The Summer movie blockbusters aren't really my bag anymore. It's all about the Oct - December portion of the year for me. GRAVITY is finally gonna hit.
