Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Would he do that though? I can't think of a game that he really enjoyed this year that he would champion against TWD, other than maybe Syndicate.

I have a hunch that Jeff won't like walking dead because he's coming in after everyone has been hyping it for so long. Also, knowing ahead of time about how the choices are more illusions than actual choices, which is what was discussed on the podcast, makes the game less enjoyable.

And Jeff is more of a mechanics guy than a story guy, I think. Walking Dead is all story, no mechanics.

Jeff already said during the Bombcast that Far Cry 3 will be on his list. I know he loved XCom a lot too. So if they end up fighting between TWD and one of those two games (which will probably end up happening) then he will have something to fight for again TWD.

I'm curious to see who will win in Racing since he was torn between Forza and NFS. They both had pros and cons and he couldn't decide at the time which one he liked more.

Just a heads up to those downloading the Giant Bomb crew on WWE 13. The person who made them forgot to copy the clothing for everyone's appearance in entrances and cinematic moments, so if you don't make the copies yourself they'll appear in said scenes only wearing underwear. Not a pleasant sight, let me tell you.

Also they all have the default entrance. I'm going to think what WWE songs and entrance animations are best suitable for everyone.

For some reason, all I can think of is Jeff coming out to "Real American".

I can't think of what game Jeff would really be pushing for this year.

XCOM? aka the game I fully expect to be their GOTY.

The real twist is that I now no longer think Mass Effect 3 is a lock for disappointment of the year. I'm currently pegging it in third place behind Hitman and Assassin's Creed 3.

Jeff catching up on the real Game of the Year. Or at least the winner of "Best Bursts".

If they do that, it will be solely because of GB's penchant for backlashing against backlashes.

I'd chalk it up to the fact that they weren't nearly as unsatisfied with the ending as a lot of fans were. Which is fine, it's their opinion.

AC3 and Hitman are also far more fresh in their minds.

I recall Jeff talking about Forza being the better game and that he got more out of it on one of the bombcasts, but I could be wrong. He did it give it a better score in his review.

I'm certain that X-COM will be their GOTY. Jeff is going to fight against TWD. Far Cry 3 will end up placing highly for it being such a wild ride, but will ultimately fail because it sucks on consoles and (paraphrasing) a game that leaves a bad taste in your mouth like that can't be considered GOTY, according to Brad.

EDIT: What game is Jeff playing? I don't recognize it.

When it comes to criticising writing, they ain't so good. Not a peep about Skyrim's linear writing last year and nothing about the mistakes TWD made yet. If I had to guess, Brad will end up liking Mass Effect 3 and make the rest of the crew warm up on the game.

It's Azura's Wrath.

And yeah he said (I think it was during the NFS quicklook) that Forza was the better overall game but the multiplayer in NFS was the best by far.

And I agree for FC3 even if I don't agree with them. It is a very serious GOTY contender for me and I don't get all the hate about the story. Sure it's not great, no questions, there are games with a MUCH better written story than that but it's not THAT bad. You get reactions like Klepek or Gies on twitter who are literally offended by it and I just shake my head? Seriously? wtf?

I finished the game yesterday and thought "Yeah ok...meh... all right let's go back to killing stuff and driving off road upside down in a jeep!". There's nothing offensive in the story. I agree that the direction they went with the story and the way they used Vaas (the best character BY FAR) is bad but whatever. If Skyrim could win GOTY last year there's no reason that FC3 couldn't this year.

I might be imagining this, but I recall there being talk on the podcast about pooping in ones hand and someone asking Jeff if that's similar to the ME3 ending. IIRC, his reply was something like, "it would have been more honest if they've done that."

If Brad doesn't end up hating that hokey bullshit, I'll be disappointed. It's a series that actually tried to explain its phenomena with its own brand of physics and science. I think Brad's the kind of guy that would appreciate that. The ME3 ending takes a giant steaming shit all over that aspect.

There's really nothing special about the FC3 ending. No big twist or anything...it's pretty innofensive.

Would it have been better if they went with some kind of crazy twist at the end (like the animus theories lol)? Maybe...I guess... But sometimes a summer action flick can be good too, no need to be super cerebral about it.

Even if Brad ends up really liking ME3, I don't imagine it ever being called Game of the Year by anyone on the staff.

Good to see people taking care of important things lately. Between 999, Binary Domain, and Asura's Wrath, my confidence in this year's goty talks has been increased. Now, if only Jeff would get around to Walking Dead...

The best thing about last years GOTY award videos was how Vinny clearly put more work into his then anyone else.

He had different backdrops, costume changes, a actual story for scene to scene.

Impressive really.

I dont know how they can top what they did last year. It was so dumb.

Please link a brotha.

I'm slowly forming an "oh god I need to play all these games before GOTY deadline is up" list in my head. I think Giant Bomb is to blame.

OK, so I should be getting Dishonoured and Far Cry 3 at Christmas. Probably gonna get Binary Domain and Asura's Wrath as well if I can. Hotline Miami, that seems like something I can afford to get myself. Still got Sleeping Dogs to finish. Will probably play more Halo 4 soon, hopefully. Maybe same for BLOPS2. Assassin's Creed 3 I'll hopefully be able to play enough of with friends. Fallblox is something I'll buy immediately upon being able to get online with my 3DS.

Um, I think that's it. Chances are I don't get to play all those to completion. Already completed Kid Icarus Uprising, Journey, The Walking Dead and Thirty Flights of Loving. Hmm... this is gonna be a gargantuan task, but I've been slacking big time.

I'm interested to see where and if the crew nominates Diablo III for anyting positive or negative. That game is conspicuously absent from a lot of lists right now...

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get mentioned. I don't think D3 is horrible or anything, just... forgettable.

It would certainly have been a lot funnier in a, "ohhhh Ubisoft has gone nuts!" kind of way. I agree that video game stories can be simple and remain satisfying, though. The Mass Effect 3 ending went for something bigger than the sum of its parts and stumbled awkwardly. A lazier ending with Shepard riding a space nuke straight onto Reaper town would have fit better than the curve ball they gave us.

Oh yeah totally but I expect more out of the ending of a massive RPG trilogy that takes 150h to complete than from an open world fps action game. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Specifically for ME3, it concluded a lot of story arcs during the campaign missions rather than waiting until the very end. I like that approach. The actual, extended endings are too much, though. Is that what people want from big RPGs?

I totally had the same thing but then I realized I'm fairly certain no one gives a shit about my opinion on the games I play, so I became more patient for sales.

OMG! This is amazing!!

I appreciate this so much! Thank you, man!!!

I'll crack some beers when I get in and catch up!

Really interested in 999 after reading/hearing Patrick's impressions. I think I'm going to add it to the Xmas list. Virtue's Last Reward is the sequel, correct? I'm assuming Vita version is superior :P

Maybe because it's a disappointing piece of shit?
It's not but I think there were other games that they enjoyed more.

I wouldn't be surprised if ME3 doesn't end up high on anyone's list even though it's in my top 3 games of the year and I still need to play the majority of DLC for it.

It's going to be interesting to see what will end up as GOTY for them.
