Awesome! Hope they bring the Nexus system back!

The central hub was bad. The whole exploring and branching out into the huge ass world of Dark Souls is one of the things that made it great, besides once you progressed you found shortcuts that linked things together and still didn't feel forced there.

A cross between the Nexus and the open-world of Dark Souls would be ideal. Nexus like a PSO style hub to meet people, group up etc. The Nexus also has some dungeons that you have to unlock in the main game in order to access. Retain the massive over-world that twists and turns everywhere.

I preferred the seamless world approach in Dark Souls to the hub system in Demon's. Given that it's a sequel to the former I'm sure they'll retain that.

Anyway, people should really get used to the idea that it will be GFWL. I don't think the small amount of enthusiasts pissed off by that makes up for the complexity of porting the game to a different online platform. And honestly, it's not a big issue -- in 200 hours of playing DS the only GFWL-related issue I experienced was having to re-enter my login data 5 times or so.

Dark Souls has nothing to do with Demons. Same mechanics/atmosphere but the lore is completely separate. Lol

EDIT: Pho I can FEEL you SEETHING from across the Pacific sis. >:)

Please, for all that is holy don't use GFWL or whatever the new shit platform that MS uses for PC.

Just for once, don't take the lazy way out.

The only thing I liked about the Hubworld / Level Select was the Nexus itself looked really cool. And that doesn't have to be exclusive to the Hubworld / Level select system.

Well I didn't like the connected world and bonfires. :/

That actually sounds like a good idea!

This is pretty much the best news I could've woken up to. Just don't make it more accessible/easier and all will be well.

Yeah, it's definitely possible to make that hub function more like an upgraded version of Firelink Shrine or, say, the initial area in Metroid Prime 1 & 2 or Zelda OoT's Hyrule Field: almost the entire world is connected to that central area, but it's all interconnected and so it's more a common area than a level select.

I'm sorry but I have to do this:

In what earth was the end of Dark Souls rushed? I would actually like to know

In this earth. Check out the pc port, it's really outrageous how gimped it is graphically without Durante's fix.

This is why I originally wondered if Sakuraba was doing the soundtrack again. He played nothing of the sort in the first game.
Maybe they decided to let him get a bit more diverse for this game?

Watch as he brings in his damn Casio piano collection for this soundtrack.

PRAISE THE LAWD, NEW DARK SOULS IS COMING!!!

I seriously did not expect this announcement!

But there is one thing that intrigues me:

"Dark Souls II will feature a new hero"

Does this mean that the story will finally focus on a predefined character with a personality? I like character creation and everything, however it's annoying that my char has no personality or even the ability to speak.

So, prequel?

Hint:

The Dragon.

There are still giant drakes around at the time Dark Souls takes place. That might not be an actual dragon.

Let's hope not. I think giving the protagonist a defined character would take something away from the story.

I think a prequel would be awesome, there's a ton of interesting stuff going on in Dark Souls' history and background lore. And I don't really think that it contradicts the game featuring "a new storyline" or "an unfamiliar world". It's just a matter of how much earlier or where the game is set.

"more accessible" could mean anything - from a NPC showing you a few first steps (talk to people, some fight training, first spell, a basic map) before he dies to regenerating health, QTE and a cheap love story.

Why change something which obviously sells because of the lack of "modern" help where it often feels a marketing guy takes you by the hand and narrates you through the game. If I want a interactive movie experience I get Heavy Rain - which I liked but if I want to feel lonely and desperate I want Dark Souls and not Dark Souls 2: The plush edition.

I almost swear that the dragon is Kalameet. But, that wouldn't really make sense since he's killed in Artorias of the Abyss.

Anyway, my day has been made, looking forward for more!

It does look a lot like Kalameet. Same third eye. It looks like Kalameet if he was still a Stone Eternal Dragon rather than a fleshy one.

Still, according to what has been released this is a new story in a new continuity, like Dark Souls was for Demon's Souls. That didn't stop Dark Souls from having a crap ton of references to Demon's Souls.

Maybe it's a dragon similar to Kalameet? It's not nearly as red and black as Kalameet was. Perhaps its a dragon of similar lineage.
