That really needs to be on the game's cover. I love the image.

I thought of BSG when I saw this. Anyone know what I am talking about?

But yeah, this game has me hyped so hard. That trailer was masterful in capturing the feeling of a souls game. The despair, your own death, the music...

Hell I knew it was souls within the first few seconds due to the background noises. You can hear the sound of souls being captured. Damn intense!

No I don't know what you're talking about, what is BSG? :p

God I hope that "more accessible" doesn't mean easy/dumbed down. At least separate them into their own modes, that wouldn't bother me as much. That being said, it will still be Day 1 for me.

Kinda hard to imagine that a game (series) that advertises and prides itself as difficult would stray away from that direction. But I guess it can't hurt to temper expectations. BABY SOULS!

Hmm.. doesn't sound like it'll be any harder than Dark Souls was. From that interview it'll either be around the same difficulty or a bit easier.

I'll hope for a harder game but if not, being an RPG makes this easy to do from my end.

Blighttown was great :(
Lost Izalith though, yeah.

Blighttown is such a good level if you can get past the frame rate issues. The first section, on the wood platforms is a great level. The bottom part would be good if the mosquitoes didn't endlessly respawn.

Lost Izalith is irredeemable though.

Why is everyone thinking it will be easier? They will probably just be more clear with certain stuff, but that's it.

I could see it being an unintentional consequence of their attempts to make the game more friendly for people new to the series.

Of course we just don't know yet, except that they seem to want to make the game less inscrutable than its predecessor.

They don't respawn endlessly. 3 batches of 2 per spawning location IIRC.

Also, I played Blighttown at 45-60 FPS :P

Vague story and obscurity are easier to do on first entries than sequels. By making a sequel they have to show familiar stuff (the undead, the idea of darkness and light, dragons) while posing new mysteries for the acquainted with the series (who's the girl, what's with the masked people, who's the dragon, which city is the one shown in the trailer).

I thought the trailer was perfect, it presented a bunch of interesting locations and characters, got me hyped by showing an action sequence set to awesome music and ended on a typical Souls image of the defeated knight, accepting his death.

The trailers for the first Dark Souls weren't all minimalistic either, many of them were pretty much death compilations.

Nice

Dark Souls, or the IP (By that I include Demons Souls as well.), does not need any story. It's perfect the way it is -- the game relies on enjoyable gameplay mechanics, and that's awesome.

That kind of design is great for the players, and the industry at large, in that it might convince some part of the game development community that gameplay mechanics are king, and you don't make games *just* to tell a story - the most important thing in a game are the mechanics. In my opinions, of course.

My reactions :

:) :( :)

Isn't he supervising anyway ?

I'm not sure. Someone mentioned that he's not the boss this time around.

Why, though? Did someone kick him off, or did he want to focus on other projects?

What was wrong with Lost Izalith?

Boring area with nothing, just lava and stupid Zombie Dragons.

You know, there is story. It's just told most times through items and NPCs. I want also to add, the story is very interesting.

Miyazaki didn't want to direct and produce, and that left all of the lore and all of the main decisions on his head.

Dark Souls has tons of story. Like hundreds of pages of worth of lore. And the lore is quite awesome. You should check it out.

Maybe it's a dragon similar to Kalameet? It's not nearly as red and black as Kalameet was. Perhaps its a dragon of similar lineage.

Mort said:
It does look a lot like Kalameet. Same third eye. It looks like Kalameet if he was still a Stone Eternal Dragon rather than a fleshy one.

Still, according to what has been released this is a new story in a new continuity, like Dark Souls was for Demon's Souls. That didn't stop Dark Souls from having a crap ton of references to Demon's Souls.

It could be another dragon similar to Kalameet.

But, PR bulls... talk aside, here's hoping for a game set in the time when Anor Londo was occupied by Gods and Izalith was the home of the Witch. I'd love to reexplore those areas.

What I like about the game is that the lore is just as good as the game, but you have to work for it just as hard as you have to work in the actual game to be rewarded for it.

What was wrong with Lost Izalith?

Lost Izalith is a zone split into two parts. The first section has you running across lava. This isn't too bad because you have a ring that reduces damage from lava to the point where it's barely noticeable. However, this area has around 30-40 of the same enemy placed (Dragon Asses) through it. These enemies are incredibly obnoxious to fight. Lots of hit points, high damage out put, and attacks that are incredibly difficult to block.

Back when the game was first released, you had to fight a crap ton of these guys if you didn't take the short cut (And keep in mind, the game was new and had a lot of mystery to it. Information like that wasn't reliably gathered until after a few weeks.). Eventually you'd reach a point where you'd just end up sniping them atop a tower until you could clear a path to the rest of the level. Eventually it was patched so you could easily run through without aggroing a single one of the dragon asses.

This lava section all takes place on a flat plain, which ends up feeling completely removed from the fantastic early levels which featured really dense, maze like levels with branching paths and hidden passages.

The second part of the level is just boring.

There is also the fact that the lava area is eye searingly bright.

This level also houses the worst level in the game.

The stupid dragon butts were also just dumb enemies. In a game filled with amazing design they just put jumping dancing legs and asses in the middle of this lava realm. It looked more than goofy.

I know. All of the enemies in the game make sense for the area they're in. All of them except the dragon butts. Why are there so many dragon butts in lost Izalith? It doesn't make sense and yes, it looks really goofy.

I am going to remain optimistic in the hope the Souls formula for success isn't fucked with too much, and its just stuff like online systems and covenants theyre going to make more accessable.

I think I saw plenty of old environments in that trailer from the Dukes Archives, the entrance to Blight Town I believe from The Depths, and even the rooty entrance to the DLC world. Will be weird if revisiting areas will be a thing as a first for a Souls game, but might also explain an accelerated dev process if theyre 'designing over the top' of the previous games blue prints for instance.

But Dark Souls II. WOO!

I don't hate Lost Izalith since it was so small anyway. No, the "level" was hardly a bother.

Now the tree boss. Ooooooh ho ho hooooo that mother effer
