Woke up realizing it wasn't all a dream, saw that PC has been confirmed as well. I'm happy now.

This is why I do not care when next gen comes.

If a long generation is what allows developers to re-iterate on the same platform so many times, do so. Praise the sun. (And please, come in 2013 christmas, or even better, around september-october max :P)

Bingo.

I'm not really sure what people are asking for here. Save states? Enemies that don't respawn?

On my part, neither.

Just that if a boss is coming that WILL kill me, that as a player I should not have to waste time going back to fight it.

For me, playing without a guide, much is trial and error. Forcing a pointless gap between learning and dying is not needed for the game to be difficult or for the game to punish me for death, there are better ways for this to be done.

Do not confuse this for asking for an easier game. That is not my point.

I somewhat agree, but I have no idea what the solution would be. Checkpoints would be cheap, hard saves would destroy the Souls experience... hm.

The character looks like they came straight from Skyrim.

The music sounds nothing like any of the music from the Souls series, which previously sounded like this.
Not to me, at all, he has a distinctive look, reminded me of the standard knight class.
Trailer screamed "Souls game" to be honest.

As long as Accessible means...optional tutorial for new players that explains the combat, shows off the stats and how different things work in the world, without making it too brutal, then I am ok with accessible. They also need to make sure the tutorial is balanced enough to show the progressive difficulty of the game, so players know what is coming for them. :D

As long as the option to bypass all the tutorial stuff is there for the hardcore players.

What

From the artstyle and the character I was going insane I could swear it was another Souls game. Pretty obvious. It was fucking glorious though. Best birthday gift a day late ever :P.

Bed of chaos?that was hard?dragon butts were more of a nuisance than anything.

Before I saw a video on youtube of it I couldn't beat it. This was when Dark Souls just had come out. I never figured out jumping into the hole to kill the actual witch.

That boss was dumb.

So if the trailer didn't outright say "You are of the undead. Forever without hope. Forever without light" and you saw this:

You're telling me your first instinct isn't Skyrim but Dark Souls?

When I saw the trailer I was thinking Dark Souls first, but then I became uncertain because I couldn't believe that Dark Souls 2 would be announced on the VGA. So I thought maybe it's Dragon Age 3, Skyrim DLC or some new Lord of the Rings game.

Even though I can definitely feel that Souls game feel. The trailer certainly gives a different vibe than previous games. The music is certainly different. It's unusual for them to debut with such a high quality CG-trailer. There weren't nearly as much death and crazy enemies as previous trailers. Maybe most noticeably the designs felt kind of safe compared to DS and DaS.

Based on that scree? Sure. But the trailer had a more serious tone from the start, could have never been an Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age (lol) game.

Pretty sure the first teaser/trailer for Dark Souls at the TGS was all CG as well.

Dark Souls had dragons and masked dudes too, and that's all we've seen in this trailer. How can you possibly make any asumptions based on this?

It's the only thing I've seen, what else am I supposed to base my asumptions on? I associate the series with sick enemy design, the trailer didn't deliver it, so I'm holding my enthusiasm.

I didnt understand what the voice over said but that looked very Dark Souls to me. In fact the first sing was torch! IT had darkness in it! lol and a dead dragon.

That quote from edge really worries me, hope they don't screw up one of my favourite games from this gen.

Hopefully the PC version will be competent this time
also steam not GFWL please!

This was Dark Soul's first trailer:

I'm not sure if it's CG or not. It looks like they used game assets with special lighting to create the trailer. It also has some of the game's real time cutscenes in them.

I'm almost sure the first part was shown earlier, without the gameplay stuff. But hey maybe I'm wrong about this. But the the trailer was uploaded feb 2011, while the TGS teaser was September 2010.

There's absolutely no way they'll screw this game up, what's everybody worried about?

They release two masterpieces back to back and suddenly From Software has something to prove? I don't think so, they just need to refine the already proven formula, and implement and even more robust multiplayer system to enhance the amazing invasion and co-op mechanics of the existing games.

As for the lore, the design, gameplay.. why doubt any of that when the past iterations have pretty much saved this generation in terms of quality and originality.

Probably they wouldnt screw but how much power NamcoBandai have on the studio now? Did From Software really want to do a DS sequel? NB forced it and is that why Miyazaki is not directing it only supervising it? Since its a popular game now will Namco push for more accessible game?

I just don't like the Bandai Namco partnership, it scares me that Bandai hasn't even issued a statement regarding the terrible PC port, and the fact that a community member had to step in and put in dozens of hours of work for free, without any recognition from them.

Just hire the guy already.

Well, as a director, Miyazaki really seemed to have a huge influence on both games. I understand how the Edge piece can be disappointing, or even a bit troubling, to a lot of people.

Dark Souls has a plot. Do you think we were just playing as an undead randomly killing things for no reason?
Ho come on, do you really need to be that snappy? What he said is that Souls games don't need stories like the ones you can find in Skyrim or wrpg. Sure, Dark Souls is offering a narrative, but a lot of it is left unsaid. What makes the game great is not its scenario, it's the lore that tells more about the world than usual western dialogs or custscenes. That's all.

Do many people actually think that the multiplayer in Dark Souls is "amazing"? Amazing ideas, maybe, but the way it's executed is super jank.

But I have faith that From has learned from their mistakes and the multiplayer will be improved in DaS2.

My favourite game ever gets a sequel, ultra rad news! It's kinda odd they went with Dark Souls II after Demon Souls > Dark Souls, but I guess they want to start a franchise now it's been a good hit for them. Can't blame them!

I hope the accessibility stuff is just menus, weapon upgrading explanation, game systems like Covenants etc etc. I hope they won't change the formula of the game too much to cater for gamers who don't want the challenge. Maybe as an option have an easy mode :D

Skyrim invented Fur. And Dragons. Also Snow.

Well, at least we know the combat in DS2 will be good. They obviously did not steal everything from Skyrim.

Now the problem is, you will now bump into people that feel the "jank" is what makes it Demon's/Dark Souls. Personally I think they could do way more with the online side of things without sacrificing the overall feel players like.

They don't have Demon's Souls. They wanted to make a multi-format games and sell millions, so the old Demon's SOuls is dead to them.

Probably little power, considering they are able to self publish in Japan. From Software isn't exactly shy to sequels.
