Or you just want a larger community to play with. Or you just want less hacking in your PvP.

More to the game than just framerate and resolution.

Not sure why you think the PC won't have a large community. PC version obviously sold well enough that FROM is making a PC version from the onset this time around. I actually find that quite impressive in itself considering how bad a port it was and that late releases typically don't do well on any platform.

Where have you got that the PC version is full of hacks ? The larger community is a fair argument however.
A cheat trainer was release quickly when PTDE came out. If you look through the indictment book or the chaos servant roster, you can see majority of the top players are using cheats/hacks.

Because its always easier to cheat on PC games.

An open platform can be a curse sometimes I suppose.

That said I don't really care as long as I have a better looking/running version.

This plus the 360 controller and a great community to play with is enough to make me forget about considering the console versions.

Again, no reasons not to opt for the PC if his rig is decent. The game is not really demanding at all.

You're right, I don't have numbers, but I'm assuming the PS3 version sold more than the PC version. Too bad it's not a steam game, I'd be interested to see what the active userbase is like.

Also Japan.

I've ran into a few people with way too much HP and insane weapons even though I was just lvl 10-20.

It's also hard as hell to invade people. And by hard I mean, I still haven't been able to do it yet.

Dedicated servers could throw all of this for a loop if they're regional again. Hopefully not.

*OTOH - possibility of 3 platinums again. Woo.

I hope the PC version is released alongside the console ones. I may end up joining you guys on day 1 (or 2) if Durante can do his magic.

It was announced at the same time this time.. Doesn't that mean it'll release same day?

From if you are reading this, here is what we want from the PC version :

-FOV slider
-High-resolution textures
-DX11 bells and whistles
-Graphic options
-MSAA & FXAA. TXAA would be sweet as well.

Thank you in advance.

Of course not, but I'm fine with a delay for a superior version.

Also while videos like this are pretty entertaining, I don't think you'd see such things on a PS3 version.

One of my favourites.

Considering they're releasing worldwide at the same time it should be region free.

Demon's Souls came out in JP/US/EU with many months difference which is why the servers are region lock.

Please take the PC version seriously this time. Like, no GFWL would be a start.

Also, would there be any way for it to use steam's VAC for a more secure online ?

If it's server based, there are good chances it's going to be more secure regardless of what they use as anti-cheat.

I mean... Dark Souls had sensitive data on the client side, which by itself was a bit naive and idiotic and made trivially easy to develop "hacks" (read: simply editing values in some files).
Something you wouldn't see in any game developed with PC in mind from the start.

Guys... The name change was because they don't own the Demons IP so they had to make up their own name obviously. It's not "tradition" lmao they had no choice

This is very exciting news. I hope that it is set in a completely different world that shares some ties to Anor Lando and Demon's Souls (Patches as a minimum). I also hope they reincorporate the world tendency somehow and more NPC dark phantoms.

But why Dark Souls II? Such a shitty name. Really, the franchise can exist purely as "Souls". I am definitely interested in learning more about the Pygmy, and Humanity, but I also want to learn more about the Soul Arts from Demon's Souls, so taking the story in a new direction that explores those elements plus more would be more to my liking. More than anything though I just hate the use of numbers for sequels, it just looks uninspired.

Also - PC, yes please. Durante's Souls was an incredible entry in the series and something similar (real 60fps and 1080p) with this art team will be bliss.

This has probably been covered in the thread already, but the "forever without light" line combined with the guy carrying a torch the whole trailer, makes me wonder if that's going to be a big part of the gameplay, a la Tomb of the Giants.

well, the release of DS1 pushed me to beat Demon's Souls on time. Hopefully this time I won't be cutting it that close.

This is great news. While the change in directors has me slightly wary, I'll give it time and wait to see how it pans out.

That's encouraging. Ended up reluctantly skipping the first one because of online (no PS3, won't pay for Xbox Live, and tragically unsecured PC version).

It would be interesting if you have to make it through areas in the dark and rekindle bonfires in order to shed light on the area, but that has an adverse effect on enemy and item types. So the game becomes a trade off of trudging through the dark or being able to see the horrors that are mercilessly kicking your ass.

It's a third person game, and a Field of View slider for this game doesn't really make sense anyway.

DX11 bells and whistles are by no means essential either. If it's there cool, but it's not something I expect at all.

Yeah, one of my favourite games this gen gets a sequel, that's a win in my book.

Day One for PS3. Although i would appreciate a Wii U Version along the other versions. Hey Namco, i would double dip, consider it!

Seriously getting worried about Wii U. Both DS2 and that "MGS" game had PS3/360 but nothing regarding Wii U. Hope it's not another Wii in terms of 3rd parties

Well I won't pretend to know a percentage or anything, but the sheer amount of multiplayer hack videos that were out within the month of PC release was fairly high. It's clearly a lot higher than the PS3 ver (for obvious reasons)

Also while videos like this are pretty entertaining, I don't think you'd see such things on a PS3 version.

You'd see the exact same thing on consoles sans the bigger head.

dark souls' port seemed pretty solid after the res issue was fixed by durante

i say keep it simple like before so it just works

didnt have any issues with gfwl while playing souls but the potential for a clusterfuck is always there with gwfl
go steam or origin if you have to

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. It even reminds me of the light/dark options in Anor Londo. Maybe From was more interested in that dynamic than I realized, and this could be the logical extension of that.

Dark Souls is probably their biggest hit in years. Why the hell would they go back lol?

Yeah, I totally get that. I KNOW why they continue to do these games because they are the best selling/most critically accepted games (dark RPGs) they've made. But there's still a lot they could do with a proper first person dungeon crawler and the King's Field universe in general. With their new found respect and money they've earned from the Souls games, I think they could (should) be in a position to bring their flagship title back. I also think the market is WIDE open for a game like King's Field. There's nothing quite like King's Field (or Shadow Tower even). The only other competitors that seem to dominate this market/genre is the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games (Bethesda). Shadow Tower Abyss was From's last first person dark RPG and it made great strives to improve on the first person dungeon crawler formula. It's just frustrating from a hardcore fans perspective because I see SO MUCH POTENTIAL from these guys, especially for that sort of a game.

Christ, I've been saying this for awhile now, King's Field Vita could be INCREDIBLE. The system fucking needs games as it is and they released two King's Field (although side project-ish) titles on the PSP. There's just no excuse from my perspective. I have tough love for these guys because I've been playing From games since the beginning. I just have this fear that these games are going to get too popular (possibly more casual, as some people seem to fear now) and too frequent. As much as I appreciate that From is one of the few devs who's providing actual real games this generation (although, they always have been and just now people are noticing...) I don't want their dark RPG productions to become some annual rushed out affair. Not saying this is going to happen, but it most certainly could.
