How is there no proper direct feed of the trailer yet? I want to hear the audio in its full glory...the VGA feed has a pretty high bass cutoff. :(

Agreed. Its repetitive as hell. I love getting my ass kicked in games. But it happens way too much in this game then I have to fight the same damn guys over (and over) again. I know thats the point now (after I wasted my money) and that its cool and edgy and xtreem and shit. But fuck that. I do not have time for that. My time is valuable.

We're in the part of the conversation when we hide behind this excuse for those of you just tuning in.

This is great news. Dark Souls was amazing, and it's my first entry into the series. I loved the minimalist narrative combined with the bleak atmosphere and grueling difficulty. Though, I'd say it wasn't terribly difficult once things started to pick up and you became more equipped. Anyways, would you guys recommend also playing Demon's Souls in the mean time, or am I just better off playing through Dark Souls again?

Demon's Souls is totally worth playing. The structure is a bit different with the Nexus Hub instead of the more 'open' world but it's great.

I still prefer Dark Souls to Demon's Souls though.

YES!

One of the disappointing things about Dark Souls is that it wasn't such a clear step up from Demons Souls. They are about equal with each excelling at different things. Your in for a treat if you haven't played it. :)

Get use to no jumping move though. And you only have half HP in your soul form. Those are about the only big addition to the gameplay.

Honestly, outside of the online infrastructure, I feel Dark Souls was a pretty massive step up from Demon's Souls. I played some Demon's Souls the other day, and while it's still an incredible game, the loss of the sprawling continuous world is hard to accept. I think Dark Souls has lower lows, but higher highs that more than make up for it.

Still, play through Demon's Souls by all means. It's still an amazing game.

Time to borrow a PS3.

Might as well play through Uncharted, RDR, and MGS as long as I'm playing some console. If I had to pick a console this gen it would have been PS3.

Better exclusives overall, don't get screwed paying for a p2p connection, lesser of two evils in terms of bad consumer practices.

Not to mention how plain exploitable Demon's could be. You can farm enough grass to heal you for an eternity. At least in Dark Souls they 'capped' that so you had a couldn't heal through a fight. Demon's has some other rough spots people never seem to harp on but I hate tearing down another great game in order to build up another. I find both are great but I prefer Dark's more streamlined experience.

The only thing this post is missing is a Killzone .gif.

Real men go no shield.

Tell me about it since with demons souls i just spent most of my time running around with a halberd once I got my hands on it.

I forgot what I used in dark souls. I think it was the sword you could get from those guys who look like roman legionnaires. Then went to a different sword.

I remember in demons souls it was hilarious you could back stab people with the fist weapons. Though it did shit damage. Did they bring that weapon type back in dark souls? I dont recall finding it if so.

Nonsense. There's another way to heal without estus flasks. It's called Humanity, players just pop them like its nothing and they can easily farm in the depths,TotG and the abyss chasm.

I disliked Humanity altogether. This was one good reason why.

On the other hand, I was thinking how neat it would be if enemies could steal estus from you.

Yeah they brought it back.Still shit though haha.Would like to see more of Whip, Katana and curved swords. They have like what.. i think 4- 5 in there categories.

lol i would be so for that. ill put DS1 on my gamefly queue and see how i stack up. maybe it isnt as brutal as i imagine it to be
...hopefully

demons souls is harder then dark souls, but I enjoyed it more, it is less accessible then dark souls simply for the fact that the beginning is balls hard, but after you pass the first area and learn how to play, things get significantly easier, as long as your cautious it really isn't as bad as people say it is.

As mentioned before yeah the problem is more the mindset of "gamers" these days, rather than the game design itself.

I remember in demons souls there was a katana that caused feedback damage to the player also right? Was the one that did not have a grip and was only the blade with the end wrapped in cloth.

Gripless Katana. Chaos blade does the same thing in Dark Souls.

Man I remember picking that thing up for the first time thinking COOL using it NOT COOL and put it away in my inventory lol.

Man has it almost been 3 years since I played Demons Souls. (JP ver on launch)

Lots of in-game assets on display there, but that is definitely not real time running on a console. Dark Souls doesn't look anywhere near that good.
Aren't they just using a cinematic filter? pc version has a better iq so there's that, at least it isn't cg and is a lot more representative of the actual game.

It takes more than a filter or better image quality to add the completely different background and sunshafts to the crow scene. Like I said, it's got actual in-game assets and some actual gameplay stuff, but it's not like they just pulled the footage off of someone playing the game on a PS3.

Another think i hoper for this new game. Hope they keep the non-information about the character/story.

I love the fact to discover, little piece of story reading the item or after fighting a boss.

Yeah that's true but that's way more representative of the actual game.

It also includes parts of the opening cinematic of the game, which is CG (the beginning of trailer and the part with Nito).

I don't mean it would be a better game, just that requiring you to rerun the level makes more sense if there is a new challenge each time. As it is the levels are like intricately designed puzzles and figuring out a successful path is great fun. But rerunning it over and over is liking having to solve the same puzzle when you've already figured out the solution.

Well yes, that's the point. It's a punishment for failure. Getting punished for losing, and the frustration that follows, makes the eventual victory incredibly satisfying. People are just so unaccustomed to anything but rewards no matter what they do (see "deathstreaks") that anything short of immediately respawning in the same place when you die feels overly punishing.

Also having randomized elements would be much more frustrating since you would never be able to find an optimal route or a shortcut to get back as quickly as possible.

No they didn't. Humanity is farmable and will heal you up just as well as a flask. It also can't be stopped via that item that prevents flask healing in pvp

I can't stand the Monster Hunter games. Him being apart of that series is bad news for me.

I love Monster Hunter, but I wouldn't want the Souls games borrowing too much from it. Maybe more locational damage in bosses and enemies (like cutting off an enemy's tail) to influence drops or attack patterns wouldn't hurt.

Also maybe some more gathering and a crafting system could be thrown in, but then it'd be getting a little too dangerously close to Monster Hunter.

Because every souls teaser is CG if I recall correctly. Demon's opening was CG and I am pretty sure so was Dark Souls.

The original "Project Dark" announcement trailer was 100% in-engine, even featured an earlier build of Firelink Shrine.

The Dark Souls announcement trailer was a mix of gameplay and CG. One of the best trailers E-V-E-R!

So I'm kind of thinking that this "Dark Souls II" announcement trailer is a bit like the Project Dark one, we'll get a proper unveiling relatively soon I'd imagine, perhaps in February like Dark Souls.

Judging by the rugged, snowy landscape, it probably just takes place in another "country"..."city state"... however the fuck the territories in the Dark Souls universe describe themselves.
