I'd only want to see this if Batwoman continues doing her own thing. My girl is too good for all this owl and clown business and that's how I likes it. :3
Alright, I concede that he has been training for longer and may have been operating as Batman for longer, and only in the public eye as Batman for five. I was mistaken.
However, I'd still argue that the character is mostly still around because of
There isn't one, but you'll see a lot of would-be contortionists trying to prove otherwise.
Batman #0's first story begins "Six Years Ago...", which most reading it have accepted as establishing that the events depicted therein take place one year before the "Five Years Ago" of Justice League #1. During their rooftop conversation, Jim Gordon mentions that Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham three months before, and Bruce remarks that before that he'd been gone for four years. The second story begins "Five Years Ago..." putting it closer to the time of Justice League #1, and features the first lighting of the Bat-Signal by Jim Gordon with teenage daughter Barbara tagging along. We also see reactions to the lighting from the three not-yet Robins -- Dick, Jason, and "Tim" -- all of whom are now much closer in age than as ever depicted before.
So Bruce became the Batman between five and six years ago, and at most a year before Justice League #1. Before that, he operated as a nameless vigilante for a number of months while sharpening skills, acquiring toys, and formulating the Bat motif. And he left Gotham four years before that, to start his global training voyage. Which results in a ten-year timeline or thereabouts, from young Bruce leaving Gotham to the Batman fighting owl ninjas, which is in keeping with the idea that the New 52 features younger versions of all its characters.
Now, if one were so inclined, they could argue that Bruce was lying about returning to Gotham three months before meeting Gordon; he could have been operating as the masked vigilante in secret before re-establishing his public image with the high-profile return of Bruce Wayne. But there's a limit on how far back one can go, before one starts cutting into the time he spent training. Plus, that whole contortionist thing.
Also, I've read some argue that the "Six Years Ago..." in Batman #0 actually means "six years before Justice League #1," which itself takes place five years in the past; suddenly, they've given themselves eleven or more years of Bruce in costume as Batman to work with, instead of five or six. That puts Bruce operating on a sixteen year timeline, and being Batman for over a decade, and thus they are able to squeeze all those things in that don't fit with the current timeline. The catch is that this also makes Barbara considerably older, and Dick, and Jason, and Tim, and... you get the idea. Contortionism.
Damian is, of course, the clog in the pipes. The easiest way to fix that would be to establish that during those four years, Bruce trained with the League of Shadows. That's where he met Ra's al Ghul for the first time, who pegged him early on as a successor, and to that end introduced Talia as his would-be betrothed, which resulted in Damian through whatever means. But from what I heard Batman & Robin #0 screwed that explanation up with Talia's memento.
EDIT: Even easier fix, make Damian's memory of his life story a lie fabricated by his mother. She roofied Bruce, grew Damian in a test tube, and used VR simulation to fill his head with false memories and training while he grew artificially in a lab. He thinks he's ten, he remembers ten birthdays, but in reality he was only born... let's say three years ago. And knowing this from the beginning, and realizing how the illusion plays into Talia's schemes, Bruce plays along and makes the rest of the family do the same to protect Damian and turn him against his mother in the coming war.
I'd only want to see this if Batwoman continues doing her own thing. My girl is too good for all this owl and clown business and that's how I likes it. :3
Agreed. It is nice whenever Batwoman crosses over with the other characters though, since it's such a rare occurrence compared to the rest of the line.
W.R.T the bat family spoilers
I can't see anyone killing off Damian besides Morrison. Also, he's been one of the few breakout new characters in the past 10 years. My bet is on beginning the batgirl-> oracle transition.
Just blazed through vol 2 and half of vol 3 of American Vampire. I can't believe how compelling it is. It looks like the first mini (survival of the fittest) is collected within vol 3. When chronologically should I read the other mini (Lord of Nightmares?).

I tired of them, but at least they presented a constant, unrelenting tone of nihilism, and doom. I had to stop reading because they honestly depressed me.
The show is just a stupid action show with zombies.

How much did you watch? I ask because the first two terrible seasons would be hard-pressed to be classified as "action" and the third season has been all action, thus amazing. I could watch an 8 year old headshot zombies with a pistol from two football fields away for HOURS.

I stopped reading because Kirkman can't write anything compelling. Tony Moore was just a convenient excuse to drop the book since there was no hook for me.

First 48 issues, up until the end of the prison arc, are pretty phenomenal. I read up to 86, I believe, before I lost interest. Everything after the prison stuff just didn't ever that level again. I do like that the Walking Dead show is actually getting lots of people to read the comics, the opposite of pretty much every other comic related entertainment. If only those Nolan fangirl chumps would pick up the Court of Owls trade instead of snatching up a million copies the The Long Halloween.
Kirkman is a chill brah though, Invincible is the best.

Nolan fans aren't Batman fans. Nolan isn't even a Batman fan. Ugh. He's the opposite direction of bad with Batman, than Michael Bay and Bayformers.
What's wrong with Long Halloween? It had best Catwoman ever. Total sex machine muscle Catwoman. HNNNNG! If only Ava Cowan were into comics.
I'd love to see body builder nerd girls dressed as LH Catwoman or Glory. :3 Something other than manipulating your cleavage like a Play-Dough Fun Factory for free compliments.
Snyder/Capullo do with Batman what Nolan tries, but without the whole logic out the window, shitty action, and black metal voice.
It really is amazing. It seems the US release fell short of the Japanese release by two issues. DAMN IT!

Nothing wrong with TLH but, like you said, the current stuff is doing that style better than Nolan. More people would be hooked if they didn't just keep turning to the same four or five Bat stories.
I saw Dark Knight Rises two days ago for the first time...i enjoyed it overall but the vast amounts of stupidity really try to ruin it for me. I can't get over
the scene where the cops get out of the sewer trap and march down the street towards Bane's men. They have handguns, but they don't fire them. Instead, the front row gets show civil war style until both sides clash in a brawl. Later the cops start firing guns. I know this might have all seemed cool to whoever was in charge of this scene, and then you can have Batman go one on one in the middle of the brawl with Bane kinda like very crappy unrealistic movie ( hey Mel Gibson Patriot, i remember you), but it is TERRIBLE and i want the people behind it to know they are terrible.

Nolan is absolutely fucking terrible at action scenes.
It's like he's aware of the concept of an action film, but not the execution. Why things happen they way they do, or the logic behind any of it.
I hope to hell whoever ends up with Batman next is a competent action director and pays homage to the side of the character that is the peak of human perfection in physical combat, and not some fucking monkey that incoherently shakes the camera to bullshit his way out of hiring a fight choreographer (which I know he did, so perhaps a competent fight choreographer) and learning how to film action properly.
Ugh.
At least Nolan Batman has trumped Raimi Spiderman for the sheer amount of idiotic praise heaped upon wildly mediocre film making.
I only hope Nolan's meddling with Superman, and Snyder's involvement aren't the Sucker Punch that K.O.'s the Man of Steel's cinematic franchise for another decade.
Ha no, that wasn't really a jab at Morrison - I have no beef with the guy even though I think his Batman has thoroughly run its course, despite the latest Inc being fantastic. It was more a jab at DC's shift away from Morrison with the New 52. Like Father_Brain said, it's pretty clear that DC has shunted him to the side in favor of Snyder as the big dog on Batbooks.

Oh you scared me. Part of that is Morrison's shift off of mainstream books, as he does now and then. You can't very well hang your hopes on someone that is in short order moving on. =)
For me, the friendship is explored in a very real way, and comes across quite well. The Perez art is an evolution of his style, but the real star is Kevin Maguire. The latest issues showing the sibling bond with Huntress and Damian are especially effective.
Can't speak for anyone else but as a long time Power Girl fan I've just accepted she is a character that sometimes experiences strange changes. Remember her time as an Atlantean? Yeah. This latest isn't the perfect one I'd want but the pairing with Huntress (a nod to silver age PeeGee is great). The biggest problem I've had really is the lack of interaction with the rest of the books. It feels halfway torn between Earth 2 and New 52. Either become a bridge between the two or commit fully to one.
Edit: Another change that has taking some getting used to is Power Girls more overt sexuality. For all of the "joke" behind the origin of her cleavage, her sassiness, she had actually been a surprisingly non-sexual character, as in, she never really "got" with anyone.
Art has been hit or miss but there have been some great issues. I personally loved #0s art.
