Never gonna happen. I dunno how much you know about J-culture, but they'd all have to commit seppuku before hiring Durante. Fact.

Notice there's no PC logo at the end of the Dark Souls 2 trailer. Could that mean this trailer was done prior to them releasing PTDE? Or was it simply a gaffe on their part?

You mean I don't have to change Windows language settings to change the in-game language? Fuck, back to INI files.
Yeah, basically DSfix changes the setting before the game reads it and changes it back when you quit. (And it's implemented in a way that will correctly restore the original setting on the next quit even if the game crashes)

I imagine it was a gaffe, that or just not caring to mention. It's unfortunately not that unusual not to mention PC on trailers even for games that are releasing on PC, Sega games come to mind.

Most players here on GAF and other places ended up being glued to the wiki, so either way they're not doing much discovering on their own. Regardless, we have no idea what they're going to do. I think people should probably chill out.

A significant number of people on GAF these days aren't looking to be challenged by the games they play.

Like most people playing games these days.

Be challenged by a game I am playing? Inconceivable!

I was just thinking about a way to get players involved with the story and a way to stop them running off to Wiki all the time.

How about having a Library/Museum in the world somewhere and players come across hidden books, scrolls, carvings etc in their games and they have to take them to the Library. Gradually it gets filled with all manner of lore bits and bobs. Not just plot stuff, keep that for the game but all those item descriptions etc, tie them all into character info, place info.

Not just rows of text as well. Have players find broken swords, pottery, skulls and build up Library/Museum, hell the community can work together to rebuilt an ancient dragon or something. Anything to keep players in the world.
And people think "accessibility" will necessarily ruin the game. :/

We had that.. It was called the wiki lol. Building up the J-wiki with everyone at launch was a blast. I don't really care if it was on an external machine.

There is no reason an idea like a museum has to ruin the game. Especially with the idea of items across servers; it could be an extension of the community aspect of the souls series. Maybe you find one item, pick it up and once enough people have found that item it shows up in the museum. For contributing by picking it up you get a small temporary buff or small amount of souls/soul gain bonus. Don't want to contribute? Don't. Would it be worth the time it would require? Absolutely if players want (and many seem to) more fleshed out lore for the series.

Truthfully anything that relies on an online aspect to further a story is fail. Why? Because online will not last forever but single player does.

NEVER and I mean NEVER build anything that would be online specific only which has to do with the games actual lore / story etc.

Why limit online functionality because it won't be online forever?

The museum would be completed before the game went offline anyway. It doesn't have to be a never ending thing. All the data can be stored locally.

And going forward in gaming in general I think you should be prepared for the world where single-player games are further integrated with online elements. Yes it will be sad to see these games go offline but they may be better games and expiriences for them (Demon's Souls/Dark Souls are). Sure you can play both of those particular games offline but they do unquestionably loose something when you do so and they will eventually shut down.

Problem is that they rely on companies for the Internet portion of the games in the long term.

The solution is to release the Server software to the public, like most PC games do, and the online portion can live forever, at least on the PC version.

But yeah, thats never gonna happen.

Probably not even though I agree it would be ideal. But the alternative of limiting game design because it would become harder to preserve isn't appropriate either.

I, of course, went crazy when I discovered this was announced.

This is my favorite "series" of the last 15 years.

That said,

Is this a different director? Does it matter?

Course it matters. For better or worse it won't be the same.

Agreed. Even that trailer was not exactly consistent with the others.

From Software does have a history of making difficult and challenging games (IE, the King's Field series) without the original Souls director, so we will see.

Just keep improving the animation... and creating more varied weapon styles/abilities...

I fucking love these games.

3D dot game hero :P

That was surprisingly difficult at times haha

Er, they purposely disabled any and all voicechat function on the 360 when the game is booted. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it with miiverse is all I meant. I don't know anything about miiverse though.

I doubt it. They disabled voice chat to discourage people from playing with their friends, or communicating in real time too much. Miiverse has more in common with the already existing ingame message system, or a wiki (something Atlus ran officially for Demon's Souls).

They're not against communication. They're just against circumventing the anonymity and mass collaboration of the community.

So the director switch: Do we know why the game has a new director? How does old feel about new and vice versa? What experience does new one have in games/souls series?

Exactly, in that announcment, they have the origianl director's title as "supervisor."

I just know, he took the punishment and then help very seriously. He even had the notes fans had written him in one of those cycle pictures frames to keep him focused.

He's not the Tomohiro Shibuya credited on Monster Hunter and he directed ACE:R. That's pretty much all we know at this point.

Hmm....

I don't like the ACE:R pedigree...Dark Souls is not about the "action" its about the combat. (You know what I mean).

Besides that, though, apparently ACE:R is terrible. I went to its Japanese Amazon page and... so many one star ratings.

I was wondering why they (From/Bandai) would put him on their new successful franchise, but then I saw how ACE:R sold a shitload.

I was hopeful before, but now I'm pretty bummed.

Just re-watched the trailer again. I know its just the first one and it was made for the VGA's, but it really does have a different feel.

The hero...well...is actually a hero...he only dies once! It almost had a dudebro feel to it.
