Looking at the special features on the Blu Ray it's a real shame they didn't just get the stunt guys to do most of the fighting between Batman and Bane. Those guys fight like some motherfuckin' ninjas.
 
Finally saw this this weekend.

Really fantastic. So unlike average, middling superhero movies. Barely a superhero movie at all really.

Probably my favorite Levitt performance too.

He was really good at that!!

I think honestly the bit that sold me on this movie, the fucking heart and soul, was the one shot after everything's settled of the one Gotham street and then those two people hugging.

Goddamned Deadwood with batarangs. How can you beat that?

I still don't understand how Bane is so surprised when Bruce was back in Gotham after escaping the Pit.

The Pit was under his control, am I supposed to believe he got Gotham News Network on cable tv all the way on the other side of the world in a shithole 100 feet under the fucking desert, but no one had a phone/fax/computah to alert him in the time it took Bruce from escaping to making it back to Gotham? A text message?

There are no soldiers or guards at the prison. None of Bane's men were working there. There would be nobody to alert him. It was supposed to be impossible to escape from and the fact that there were no guards or soldiers would further demoralize the prisoners. That's the whole point of the prison.

a) there were no Bane henchmen in or around the Pit
b) phone-& internetcoverage is terrible in The Pit, I've checked.
 
I have to say JGL, and Hathaway showed me more in this movie than in their previous movies. Most I know think Hathaway can't act, but when they saw her in this they were kind of surprised.

Like the way she played it when the cops first showed up to the finger print trade off. I thought she was good.

I don't know if Nolan won't ever win, you never know, but Affleck is really shaping up. I say he has a bigger chance to eventually win.

Also, lol at that poster. TDKR will never be nominated for those awards. Maybe Best Picture, but because of the whole 5-10 films rule. All I know it's not BP material, I don't see it as such. Director is out of the question.

Both will have the opportunity to do so. Both have proved that they at least deserve it.

Will they win it this year? I doubt it. Affleck's got more chance, but I'll never trust the Academy to give away the prizes to the right person. (most of the times)
 
While totally loving the first two movies, TDKR just doesn't do it for me. It started out strong, but then everything seems to fall apart right after Bane breaks Batman. I wanted to like it. Even had a couple re-watches. Still its my least favorite in the trilogy.

1 - Begins

2 - Dark Knight

3 - Rises

One thing I really liked about Begins were the sets and locations. It felt more like a Gotham City and I think had the most character. Dark Knight and Rises weren't as visually appealing to me personally. Just kept thinking, yep...that's Chicago. Oh....that Pittsburgh. I walk down that street to work. Look, they have the Pittsburgh Steelers as the same players for the Gotham Rogues.....wow, really?

Anyone else hoping that the next movie/movies goes in a more fantastical/gothic route?

I was actually kind of disappointed with Argo. It's a solid movie with some intense scenes, but it's not particularly memorable. I'm sure Affleck will get there eventually, but I don't think it's his year (Certainly not saying it's Nolan's year). I'm expecting Spielberg, Bigelow, Hooper, or Ang Lee to get it right now.

I would never put my money on Spielberg winning in any year where there's contention to the fact. Schindler's List was literally a no-brainer. The Academy couldn't deny giving him that award and save face. But the Academy has never liked Spielberg because he represents such a safe and popular mainstream choice.

Right now my money is on Zero Dark Thirty based on reactions and other award circuits.

I have yet to see either so I can't judge which film deserves it, if either of them.

On a completely different subject...

I missed the debate you guys were having on the best villain out of the three movies but someone else said it best. Ra's is one of the better characters out of the whole trilogy, but the best villain to me is Joker and then Bane. And they aren't too far apart.

Joker's the best villain. Dat Heath performance is legendary.

I personally prefer Bane though, because it was great to see Batman against a physically stronger villain on film (a good film.) I also love what they did with the character.

Yeah, i'd like to see that too. Creating the setting is probably the easy part, Batman '89 already did that pretty well. The real challenge left now is to create a series where all the fantasy is possible, but it's hard to make it all work in a movie.

I really want Ang Lee to take it, but this year will be Argo Vs. Lincoln Vs. Zero Dark Thirty. I think that Les Mis won't be as critically acclaimed as anticipated, and that Django will be a fan favorite. The Hobbit won't get anything but technical noms.

I loved TDKR but it shouldn't get serious recognition (one of my top 5 favorites of the year).

Life of Pi was insufferable. The only noms it deserves are cinematography and visual effects.

While I really liked the story....Wes Anderson is getting kind of played out for me. I was getting pretty annoyed throughout the movie with the repeated front shot, panning shot, front shot, pan, wide front shot, side shot, pan to side shot. Annoyed the shit out of me.
