The Dark Knight Rises |OT2| The Legend... Continues

While totally loving the first two movies, TDKR just doesn't do it for me. It started out strong, but then everything seems to fall apart right after Bane breaks Batman. I wanted to like it. Even had a couple re-watches. Still its my least favorite in the trilogy.

1 - Begins

2 - Dark Knight

3 - Rises

One thing I really liked about Begins were the sets and locations. It felt more like a Gotham City and I think had the most character. Dark Knight and Rises weren't as visually appealing to me personally. Just kept thinking, yep...that's Chicago. Oh....that Pittsburgh. I walk down that street to work. Look, they have the Pittsburgh Steelers as the same players for the Gotham Rogues.....wow, really?

Anyone else hoping that the next movie/movies goes in a more fantastical/gothic route?

Pretty much the same for me in rank, but i liked TDKR a bit more than you i suspect. Im going to say this is the best comicbook film series ever imho. I will never get over Begins tho so well done, and the end part where bats is gliding over a bunch of hallucinating criminals and they see a bat figure with glowing demon eyes....at that moment i was like whoever wrote/produced/directed this movie gets batman. Oh and horses that breath fire yo.

Life of Pi was insufferable. The only noms it deserves are cinematography and visual effects.
I disagree. Beautiful film with obviously striking visuals. I enjoy the story, even if it may be a bit preachy. Main actor is really solid, and it was just a beautiful movie through and through.
While I really liked the story....Wes Anderson is getting kind of played out for me. I was getting pretty annoyed throughout the movie with the repeated front shot, panning shot, front shot, pan, wide front shot, side shot, pan to side shot. Annoyed the shit out of me.
I can understand that. I thought I was annoyed by Anderson, but this movie was charming as hell to me. It did come across as "look how quirky it is" sometimes, but that is Wes.

The Master was FAR from a piece of garbage. It was definitely not as good as PTA's previous efforts, seemed to lack true impact. Some insanely good performances of course. Hoping Phoenix wins best actor, but that is unlikely.

I loved The Master. Absolutely loved it. I remember going into the movie uncertain because of all the mixed reviews, but they were completely unfounded.

It might be the best film I've seen so far this year, but I'd need to see it again.

I hear this critique of The Master a lot but I really don't get it. The last shot and what it says about Freddie's inherent need for subjugation was among the most impactful moments of the year in film for me.

Still haven't seen The Master, was in cinemas near me for far too little a time. Killing Them Softly is the best film of 2012 for me.

TDKR I loved, but it has no chance of even getting into the 10 for the Oscar. Not a chance. Nor does Killing Them Softly actually.

I got the message of the whole flick. It just seemed to move along without much actually happening. It was a beautiful looking movie too. I still think it would make my top 10 movies of the year though.
I can say that the most enjoyable film I've seen so far this year was definitely Seven Psychopaths.
Damn, I really wanted to watch that movie. It might hit my cheap theater soon, or I'll just wait until Redbox. How does it compare to In Bruges?

How do I redeem these UV digital copy codes for my iPad? I bought the trilogy, which should qualify me for all 3 TDK movies

damn ultraviolet/flixster

Psychopaths was amazing on every level, but it was never going to get any form of major recognition. I see it getting a much larger audience on video.

Yup. Never expected any sort of awards recognition. It's why i stressed 'enjoyable.' Hope it makes a killing on home release. Need more McDonagh brilliance.

That's how it felt to me too: beautifully shot, impressively acted, ultimately hollow. If Freddie wasn't established as someone with a history of mental illness, and was actually given some kind of arc through the story, then it may have landed with me. But as is, it's just a crazy person acting crazy; the film didn't have anything to say.

I am embarassed for Nolan after seeing all these slow mo action gifs. Even if you ignore the fact its slow mo there are guys with guns who dont use them until Batman's got his fist in their face.

Just watched it and...well.....movie of the year by a landslide. I mean, by a long country fucking mile. Avengers, Spider-man and Prometheus aren't even close imho. God I wish this wasn't the last Batman movie by Nolan I really dig his "universe".

Well I suppose if those films you mentioned are the only other films you've seen at the cinema this year.

"Impossible..!"

I still don't understand how Bane is so surprised when Bruce was back in Gotham after escaping the Pit.

The Pit was under his control, am I supposed to believe he got Gotham News Network on cable tv all the way on the other side of the world in a shithole 100 feet under the fucking desert, but no one had a phone/fax/computah to alert him in the time it took Bruce from escaping to making it back to Gotham? A text message?

"omg baane,bruce wayans espaced.i know rite?lol!"

Don't forget Miranda meeting with Bruce and never telling Bane about it.

This is something they did a particularly bad job with in TDKR. In TDK it seemed like people actually used guns like guns. In the end hostage/clowns sequence it looks like people actually try to shoot Batman. In TDKR they all run up to him instead of just pulling the trigger.

Perhaps it was established during the annual henchmen conference that Batman is in fact bulletproof and in these harsh financial times, it would be best to not shoot the Batman, since it would only waste perfectly good bullets.

You saw his ninja dance moves in the sewer.

Daggett wanted to know where Bane got those guys. Well now we know.

I have a CinemaNow code for the "Dark Knight Reborn" documentary, but can't redeem it because I'm "out of region", so if any of you guys want it, shoot me a PM.

Apparently in your world varying degrees of quality don't exist. The fact that you can find a flaw in any movie isn't the same as a film that's stuffed with them.

How about you stop assuming what exists or doesn't exist in my world?

How about you be smart enough to realize that I and many others really liked the movie. Nothing you say will take away from that experience and enjoyment. And I am not alone, nor the minority.

You didn't like it. Good for you. Nothing I say to defend the movie will change your mind. Unless you were stupid enough to not get some of the points people seemed to have missed, like the ending being real and not a dream. That I can defend or clear up.

This is partially correct. We don't ignore similar flaws in other movies, its just that when the good far exceeds the bad we end up liking the overall film. Batman 3 has more bad than good.

Defend your position.

LOL. Defend my position? Have you read this thread? Or the other two? Who the hell are you anyway for me to have to defend my position? How about you post your opinions without being a condescending prick trying to push you OPINION as fact on something where no factual consensus can be reached.

It's the 3rd OT because its the 3rd entry in an incredibly popular movie franchise and is a particularly divisive entry at that. That's creates drama and discussion.

Its not the OT #3 solely because its divisive. TDK was divisive on GAF as well.

You've also brought up its commercial success multiple times now as though that has any baring on it's quality. By that rational the Avengers is one of the greatest films in the history of the medium. The Twilight Saga is an artistic masterwork, etc.[/QUOTE]

I have brought up commercial and CRITICAL success which you selectively decided not to read. Or a complete moron. How about you just post your opinion and leave it at that? Without dictating to those who don't seem to have the same opinion as you. LOL comparing it to Twilight. And by my own statements you can't ever reach an objective factual consensus on any movie, but you can come close when a movie does well both commercially and critically.

EDIT: LOL@ Nolan never getting an Oscar. It won't be for this movie and personally he should have been nominated for Inception, but assuming his movies from here on won't be superhero movies (which I doubt will ever be considered for anything more than technical awards and acting performances), he has plenty of time and opportunity to get an Oscar.
