Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

I like that little shot of her in the trailer. Seems that Lois is stopping some sort of all out war between Superman and the military. I'm honestly sold on the entire main cast.

Adams is a very good actress, I'm interested to see her there. The movie does have some good actors in it.

I don't know, maybe he just cares more about the well being of his son than the well being of someone elses. Not really moral, but also something that would be understandable.

I guess it wouldn't fit with the comic Pa Kent but I wouldn't mind.

Exactly. Which is why it's my reading which does, completely.

One more year and it would have been the same exact amount of time between Man of Steel and Superman Returns as there was between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins.

Screw that noise, it's about time we get a Superman movie that does the character justice.

The whole "clark kent is a nerd, im sooo clumsy" is such a cringe worthy preconceived notion.

No one this good looking, and cut would have any self-confidence issues at all. In fact women would be throwing themselves at Kent.

I hope they got rid of that angle and put in something more believable. Maybe Hoboman/Beard is the new "clark kent glasses".

Why the hell not? Why does everything have to be like Avengers now? You can make a good superhero movie many ways. This is one of the ways. And all we have is a trailer which is trying to re introduce the character of Superman after the disaster of 2006. Of course they will try to mold it differently.

And its just a 2 minute trailer of a 2 hour + movie. Why are people always so ready to assume they know everything about the movie?

This is not going to be Avengers like. It won't be Batman either. Probably somewhere in the middle which is perfect for Superman and an origins story. I doubt that just because it wasn't present in this trailer, there is no humor or fun in the movie.
Agreed. But I do question the dark blue tint they're using in this movie, it does look similar to Nolan's Batman. The direction of the film is fine, but visually, I like it when Superman is bright and the colors really pop.

We'll see.

Not liking the tone at all.

To sum up everything we've seen from Man of Steel:

Yeah I don't know what exact role Nolan played in this movie but I hope one of the biggest takeaways WB learned from the Batman movies is that cast some damn good actors and you can deliver a better product. Even if some of the stuff is unbelievable or written awkwardly, if you have great actors behind it they can pull it off.

And as for Nolan, I think his involvement was only in the original development of the story. He didn't write the script, he just helped develop the story with Goyer. Something similar to how they brainstormed on all three Batman movies. Actually I don't know who wrote the script for this. Is it Goyer?

Plus his production company is behind it but again that doesn't mean much outside of money. The tone of the movie was probably as much a result of Nolan being involved as WB wanting to keep that look and style to carry over from the success of the Batman movies. That doesn't necessarily mean its going to be Superman Begins. I think the character will retain his own identity, but it will be done in a different manner than the Marvel movies.

Tell that to Geoff Johns and his ilk who wasted several years writing Reeves fan fiction

I think it's Goyer and Jonah Nolan

Well different tastes, but obviously the blue tint or the look they went with. It's one of the reasons the Nolan Batman movies look so much better (IMO) and even action seems more real (though that has more to do with less cgi and heavy use of practical effects).

Warners are taking a really interesting approach to this new film by emphasizing the 'emotional journey/arc' of Kent/Superman before showing us the antagonists and the big action set pieces that are part and parcel of these big summer films.

I didn't expect all the big FX 'money shots' to be shown in only the 2nd trailer but I was expecting something. They didn't show anything but flash glimpses and the trailer worked all the better for it.

The bit where Superman seemed to be 'charging up' (with the ground vibrating with the sheer power being 'collected' for want of a better word) before flying off was truly awesome and didn't even need to be 'epic' in scope to convey the power that he has.

I think a lot of people might be a little put out by the fact the sheer scope and scale of the action was only hinted at but for me it made the trailer all the better for it.

I have no doubt that Zack Snyder can give us the sizzle. But at the moment he's giving us the steak.

Yeah, just noticed that.

Ah fuck. So they are gonna keep that nerdy kent nonsense then. shit.

Glasses don't automatically make someone nerdy... :P Bearded Kent is probably the manliest Clark we've ever seen. :P

Kent wearing glasses is too iconic to ignore.

That was honestly a genius shot. Indeed it easily and immediately conveys the amount of power he commands. The very ground shakes beneath him.

That run was awesome. Did you not read them?

Also, the name confusion is starting to drive me crazy. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves.

I really don't like the tone they're going for here. It looks bleak and grim, trying so hard to be more "realistic", but this is fucking Superman. I feel this is part of what really made Superman Returns suffer too - trying too hard to try and make sense of how Superman could fit into the world today. I don't think they need to do that. Just make a big fun colorful movie about an invincible alien who comes to Earth, grows up, and does things we cannot do, making the world a safer place.

Yep.

The combination of Nolan and Snyder still leaves me fearful for this movie. :|

Glasses do not have to mean nerdy. He's not nerdy in the new comics, yet he has the glasses.

I hope thats the case

Although the glasses does indicate the whole "I'm clark kent" *takes them off* "now im supes".

This sort of thing in this realistic take is not gonna work.

Yeah. I liked it because it makes the flying aspect more grand awe-inspiring feat than in previous movies we just take it for granted that he can fly.

I don't think it will be that banal in this. No tongue in cheek, eye winks to the camera.

I know bad show... But Clark Kent in Lois & Clark wasn't a nerd on that show.

Yup. That might have been the most effective thing in the trailer for me. Almost as if a god (which he arguably is I suppose) were struggling with the issues that every day men and women face.

Or something. Awesome none the less. :)

but this time i think he'll be big. he's too big to fail.

A government bail out to make Bodyguard 2?!

:P

As Supermans first adventure of course hes going to be plagued with doubt and uncertainty. He doesn't know how he fits into the world. I would expect the 2nd film to be more light once Kal comes to terms with his powers and responsibilities.

I'd rather them not use this to hype up a justice league movie. I'd prefer really good self contained trilogies.

I hope production on Justice League crashes and burns. :P In all seriousness it would be smart if they made an animated CG production to distinguish it from the individual movies, but no, they're gonna go after dat Avengers money. At least we'll get this one movie without any JL nonsense.

Fantastic.

Bryan Singer eviscerated. Put on eternal sudoku watch. Called it:
I absolutely loved this moment in the trailer, with the music swelling up. It's better than all the previous Superman movies put together.
Henry Cavill looks bloody perfect as Superman. He IS Superman. I may be jumping ahead to conclusions but I think it's finally time to let go of Christopher Reeve.

Looks like jett alone is balancing out all the negative nancies, Solos, Scullis in this thread.

The only one I liked was the Braniac story but even that had a horrible conclusion and secret origin was so bad that Superman got a new origin TWICE the same year (Earth One + Action Comics #1)

that could be more expensive than live action

Sculli is just defending his love for Singer and Superman Returns, so he can't openly proclaim he liked this trailer. :p

GAF Politics! You gotta stick to your ideals.

This is Superman done right.
Oh my goodness.

I have to admit I'm finding it pretty hilarious how many posters are praising the trailer for hinting at a film that explores a more emotional look at Superman instead of a film with just action scenes.

2006 called.

2006 called? Tell her she has the wrong number.
