Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

I have to admit I'm finding it pretty hilarious how many posters are praising the trailer for hinting at a film that explores a more emotional look at Superman instead of a film with just action scenes.

2006 called.

I think they're praising it for looking like a GOOD emotional look at Superman.

I hope production on Justice League crashes and burns. :P In all seriousness it would be smart if they made an animated CG production to distinguish it from the individual movies, but no, they're gonna go after dat Avengers money. At least we'll get this one movie without any JL nonsense.

There was a point when this absolutely was the plan. That WB would have two separate 'film universes'. One being the Justice League and the other (but not connected) would have featured the DC heroes in their own individual live action film franchises.

It would have been risky but if they had (do manage?) pulled it off it could have been quite a coup.

But like I said that was the plan. Personally I hope that WB don't try and crow bar Henry Cavill's Superman into a Justice League film with a recast Batman. It would feel too much like WB were just trying to cash in one the Avengers success than forging their own way forward.

What I would give to know what Brian Singer has to say about all of this.

That looked fucking awesome. Haven't been sure about their choice for Superman, but that trailer sold me on him. Now as long as Snyder doesn't shit up every second of action with slow motion, I think we'll have a winner here.

You know that if Snyder tried to pull this shit:

... we'd pillory him for being übercheeze.

That actually looked really good. Never been a big Superman person, but I'm interested in this. I definitely like Snyder's previous movies, flaws and all. He's goddamn amazing when it comes to visuals.

lol at all the "praise nolan" posts

Once again confirmed. If the movie is good, Nolan will get unjustified praise, and if its shit, he will get none of the blame. Poor Snyder.

This is truth.

Did he make any statement about Superman Returns in regards to how it was received by fans and the general movie going audience? I would love to see that.

I do not know. But that would be really interesting.

The only one I liked was the Braniac story but even that had a horrible conclusion and secret origin was so bad that Superman got a new origin TWICE the same year (Earth One + Action Comics #1)
Earth One was the non-continuity stinker. It's not that series that caused Nu52 either. If anything, they fixed what Birthright screwed up.

Brainiac was decent but the Legion story was a lot more fun. Put together with Last Son and New Krypton, it was a great few years for a "plain" character. They weren't too serious or too cartoony; just Superman having adventures in the DC universe.

I don't like Johns for other reasons, but his Action Comics isn't one of them.

Hopefully someone can cut the music from this trailer and add Journey To The Line.

Edit: already happened? that was quick

Edit 2: but hopefully someone can do it better because that sucks

Just don't be boring.

The most criminal thing for a summer box office action movie is to be boring.

Superman Returns and Green Lantern were just that.

As much as I would love for WB to not go after Justice League and make similar bank with their individual movies, like with Batman, I doubt they don't go ahead now.

Would love for Superman to stay in his own and the others to stay in his own, though that only truly works for Batman. So they could shoehorn a scene at the end of the credits for this one to introduce the idea of the Justice League.

I really don't like the tone they're going for here. It looks bleak and grim, trying so hard to be more "realistic", but this is fucking Superman. I feel this is part of what really made Superman Returns suffer too - trying too hard to try and make sense of how Superman could fit into the world today. I don't think they need to do that. Just make a big fun colorful movie about an invincible alien who comes to Earth, grows up, and does things we cannot do, making the world a safer place.

im not sure people would just eat up a cheery superhero movie like they would back in the 80s. the patriotic, flawless, archetype just isnt popular today. I mean superman should still be a boyscout, thats his character and i like that about him but if they want to make a real superman drama im cool with that too.

awesome trailer btw.

One more year and it would have been the same exact amount of time between Man of Steel and Superman Returns as there was between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins.

Screw that noise, it's about time we get a Superman movie that does the character justice.

Oh, jett. I fear for your soul when this movie fails you.

So Lex Luthor isn't in this version at all?

He'll come in the sequel.

They will most likely set him up at the end, ala Joker in BB.

Lex is an uninteresting arch enemy (compared to other universes), but if they could pull of an interesting take on him that'd be cool. Maybe a Batman like figure who is trying to help the city get rid of Supes with his own gadgetry.

No more Real estate baron and WRRRRRONNNNG, pls.

Oh, jett. I fear for your soul when this movie fails you.

Just liek yours did, when GL bomba'd? :p

So Lex Luthor isn't in this version at all?

Who knows.
People are (rightfully) tired of lex luthor.
Lex has to be done right. And unless he somehow obtains the same physical strength as Superman, he will never be an exciting match. Personally, I'd have him just stick around in the background for 1 or 2 movies, before having him hook up with Brianiac at one point.
But he needs to have an actual personality. None of that real estate cartoony villian rap.
He needs to be equal with Clark in complexity.

And he needs to be black...
I don't know why I said that, but that'd be an interesting change.

I'd bet money on LexCorp being in the skyline when Supes does the inevitable fly off at the end.

Well, I wouldn't bet money, but...you know....
