I recently watched the Directors cut of DD. it's roughly a BILLION times better. They still have that shitty playground fight scene but by adding the whole sub plot about the murdered girl and then court case... It actually makes so much more sence.

Yup, directors cut greatly improved that movie.

If you had to rate DD and the Director's cut out of 10 what would you give them?

I remember the movie being garbage but I am liking Ben Affleck now so I'm game for giving it another chance.

So was Green Lantern quality Campbell's fault or Warner Brothers?

Both. WB should've hired a director who understood the character, and Campbell should've stuck to one tone. I mean Campbell made some terrible casting, tonal, and visual decisions. But WB hired him. So ultimately the blame falls on them firstly.

GL should've been Training Day in space if they wanted to go dark, having Sinestro showing Hal the ropes. Or if they wanted more kid friendly it should've been more like star wars in tone. Instead we get a film that only kids want to see, but can't because it was way too scary. So by trying to please everyone, they pleased no one.

Loved the new trailer.
It really struck a chord with me... Superman has always been my favourite hero.
I love the new take on him, his childhood and struggle to fit in.
The Lisa Gerrard (& Patrick Cassidy) intro is fantastic, and does sound like "Elysium" from Gladiator (which also had an epic soundtrack).

Not sure if it's been posted, but here is the entire Lisa Gerrard song in the trailer:

It didn't help the film had four different writers. It had the feel of a movie with too many cooks in the kitchen.

Personally, I thought the visuals were badass. The suits looked fantastic. The casting, script, and story were just way off the mark.

agreed. the visuals were incredibly well done and impressive. Oa looked incredible, as did the various other GL but as good as the visuals were, that mask. that bloody mask.

Completely agree on the script. They didn't get the character right. They were trying to make him like Tony Stark, but without anything that makes Tony Stark so charming, ie his confidence, money, and humor. Instead we had Hal Jordan moping around the whole time, wondering whether he should be a hero or not.

Some of the visuals were great. Oa for the most part. I thought the suits looked good, not great. The mask looked terrible thought. Parallax looked terrible. Hector Hammond with his giant grotesquely swollen head look ridiculous. Blake Lively was terrible.

I think Ryan Reynolds, while not the best choice, would've done a lot better with a better script.

Agreed...majority of the movie should've been on Oa or space. That was what set the movie apart from other superhero films and they bogged it down on Earth instead.

And yeah--the mask looked terrible!

It's funny, when Zod was first announced I remember people complaining because they thought they wouldn't take advantage of the Superman universe and it would all be set on Earth like Superman 2.

Then Zack Snyder was like "Zod is in fucking space, and here are some huge ass spaceships. There's a mother fucking war on Krypton."

It's sad, the Wondercon trailer of Green Lantern actually showed some promise

Only reason I gave the movie a chance(not in theaters though :P).

You can tell a lot of work and money went into making the movie look good. Too bad they never bothered making an interesting story. A real shame because Green Lantern is a pretty fun and imaginative superhero and with the right story it could have been a decent hit and provide some build up to a JL film.

There was absolutely zero hype for the movie and it was critically destroyed.

Shoulda been an epic Space Opera. Effectively the space stuff takes up about 10 minutes of the film. The shooting script was just garbage. Someone should've stepped up and just say "DUDES, NO."

Green Lantern couldn't even sell decent toys. GL figures looked like spinach boogers and Parallax looked like a diarrhea cloud.

No, I'm talking about a CGI mask instead of using a real ass mask. I'm pretty sure we can make those.
Maybe they wanted to cheap out on a real costume/mask and do everything in post-production. It's hard to imagine deeper logic to this movie.

There's some logic to the 'portability' of having the costume appear instantaneously. Maybe Superman's costume will be made of nanonmachines too.

I wonder why they took out Costner's "good character or bad" in this trailer. Too much moral ambiguity? "IS HE TELLING CLARK TO BE BAD??"

He might be jaded since in this continuity
he lost a son

I have no qualms with how they are depicting Pa Kent's struggles raising Clark. It shouldn't be easy raising an alien with super powers.

They are really trying to distance themselves from the idea that Superman is a perfect superhero. And that makes sense, especially in an origins film. Let him struggle with himself and eventually become the greatest superhero known. The whole boy scout from the picture perfect family isn't interesting.

Nailed my thoughts exactly.

I think it's clear Clark is going to find himself aimless and lost as a child into adulthood, unsure of what exactly he is and what to do. Becoming Superman will be a means to truly be himself without compromise, but the challenge will be measuring up to Zod and earning his place on Earth.

Can't wait.

They are really trying to do what they've been doing for the last 30 years in the comics from the idea that Superman is a perfect superhero. And that makes sense, especially in an origins film. fixed. i'm sorry but i'm just a stickler for giving credit where credit is due. I always hate it when non-comics fans think it's the movies that push these new ideas. it's the comics that started it.

The movie looks good but can someone explain to me the unusual amount of hype it's getting, the video on YouTube is about to hit 4.5million in only a day and half of being available, this thread is about to hit 2k posts in the same time frame.

Of course. But it was dumb that Bryan Singer didn't even try to update the Superman mythos with Returns. The Donner films were lifted from Silver Age Superman.

The first potentially good Superman film since the original is worthy of hype.
