I checked it out yesterday...the comic should have been titled "Morbius, The Living Vampire #0." Don't bother with it unless you're interested in his new series.
Hopeless failed miserably at the thing he claims his book will be about. Characterization. There's no real way to discuss it further. Defending it is defending poor work. And this is with characters that are easily researched He's using paper dolls to prop up a story that disregards their basic natures.
I get that some haven't read them before, and are oblivious to this, but he is still turning in poor work. I'm sure there are people who are unfamiliar with Watchmen, who think JMS is rocking their socks.
He succeeded tremendously at the thing Marvel claims his book will be about. Shit tier characters getting smoked. Dismissing it is dismissing shallow but self aware work. And this is with characters that like five people give a fuck about. He's using paper dolls to feed a paper shredder and it disregards all the dumb goody-goody tropes of mainstream comics.
I get that some people actually read Avengers Academy and have attachment to these characters, but you've been lied to. The book will be a meat grinder.
I've been trying to stay out of this thread so the urge to buy new comics would subside, but then someone thought it would be a good idea to shove Saga down my throat and I ended up buying the first volume. Needless to say....I'm hooked :sigh: My poor wallet!!
Also, since I didn't vent about this earlier, I'm sad about Gail Simone and her end with Batgirl. I know a lot of you aren't fans but I personally enjoyed the book and it turned me onto some of her good work like Secret Six (okay, you guys recommended that to me first ) and Birds of Prey. She's pretty well known so I'm sure she'll find something else soon enough.
Avengers Arena. 3/4 of the characters no one gives a fuck about in any significant amount. Hell the most popular character is Laura and her popularity has waned quite a bit.
Mettle? Good, he was lame and boring. Kawabunga dude.
Laura - She'll live, the question is can the not make her the female wolverine as in being a punching bag for everyone. This is a good time to focus on her state of mind and how she feels about having to kill her fellow avengies.
Hazmat - Hopefully she survives somehow because I like her bitter/chip on the shoulder attitude.
Electric Boy - Meh
Dino Boy - Meh

I haven't been lied to. I knew this would be as mean spirited as it is. I had to read an issue to see how bad, and to not let appearances guide my opinions, but rather content. You keep saying that no one cares about these characters, and that's a good joke, but that's not even the issue.
You may want to read the letters section at the end, where he says it's not a meat grinder. Exact words.
TV threads are typically for one show, so people know if they enter a Walking Dead show spoilers will be going on with the episodes. You typically don't get people posting spoilers for every single TV show they watch in that thread.
As much as I like Capullo (and I've been a fan since his X-force days) I think I enjoy Pat Gleason art more.
Art wise, Batman and Robin 15 is the best issue in Death of the Family.
Capullo' Joker is cool, but Gleason's is just downright terrifying!
Also there's no way they are killing
Alfred. He is blind now, Alfred is going to be the new Oracle. My money is on Damian. Morrison pretty much said that Damian can never be Batman on Batman Inc. or else Joker will win in the end, destroying Gotham. I know that book is outside continuity but still...
As much as Alfred is important to Batman, if Joker truly want to hit him where it hurts, he would just kill Damian. It's the Death of the Family literally (Wayne's family) and figuratively (the bat family, with another Robin dead).
Plus Alfred is still scarred for life, that will weight on Bruce too.
He is the one to kill if Snyder really wants to fuck up with Bruce.

If it indeed comes to this, I'll be sad. I've began to enjoy Damian. He progressed a lot as a character. But still, killing a character in comics is only meaningful when he is someone people care about, someone people appreciate.
Who would care if Joker just killed one or some of the dudes from Batman Inc.?
If Snyder tells a compelling story then I'm all for it. I just hope he is in for the long run so we can really see the repercussions and effects of his death on Bruce in the future.
I wonder if this is what Morrison planned for Damian since the beginning...

Check the March solicits, there's one person who isn't mentioned at all even in his own book. Could be misdirection, could be a tell. Snyder says he's got til about chapter 30 planned out already so he's in it for the long haul. Capullo I don't see leaving the book til then either, he just seems to like drawing it way too much.

Can anyone recommend, in that case, any good, big Marvel TPBs that aren't too difficult to jump on board with? I already have AvX, Spider-Island and Big Time Ultimate Collection and I love them.

Frankencastle is a lot of fun. You also should pick up some of the Dark Reign stuff, it's usually pretty fun. Way's Deadpool had it's only great arcs during that time. I kind of like The List as well, it's basically Osborn's shit list and he goes through it person by person. There's a different writer for each chapter so some are better than others.
Avengers Arena was great. It's exactly what it's supposed to be: a Battle Royale/Hunger Games ripoff starring disposable characters who won't be headlining a comic book anytime soon.
I realize the Q&A section at the end of the book stresses how they intend to flesh out the characters and their relationships. I'm sure the book will toss in the occasional flashback or two, but don't get your hopes up on that front.
This will be a meat grinder with high quality artwork. I'm looking forward to it. Some people seem to have forgotten that comic books don't always have to be full-on novellas to be enjoyable.
I've only read up through Batman #7. I want to pick up through #15 to get caught up. Are there any other Bat books I should be reading in terms of continuity? Ideally, I want to keep it down to just the main book, but I know there's sometimes bleed over.

Bendis really seems to be doing a great job with X-men. It's more or less playing out as I thought it would but the execution is so much better than I thought it would be.
Personally I've taken to just waiting for trades and picking what I've heard is good. It's super cheap and looks way cooler on my shelf.
There's gotta be a change in digital sales though, there isn't any point at all in buying the digital over the hard copies with digital codes. But I think that's the way they want it...

It's just greedy honestly, but yeah the system needs an overhaul. My solution will be trades.
This is what I did for Uncanny X Force and it was awesome. Might have to do this again, but the wait will be tough hearing people talking about how great monthly events are going.
