School Shooting at Elementary School in Connecticut [27+ dead including 20+ children]

It's not a hard problem.

1) Solution to drunk driving - You get caught driving drunk once, you lose your license for 10 years. No exceptions. You get caught again, you lose your license forever and go to jail for 5 years.

2) Solution to gun violence - Full medical and psychiatric evaluations for anyone attempting to purchase a weapon in the United States. Minimum age 25 years old to carry a firearm in every major city. License expires every 2 years and requires new evaluations to re-activate. Like a pilot's license.

Totally unrealistic in America where many jobs are tens or dozens of miles away from where people live. In Europe maybe. Also, the result would be a doubled prison population. See: war on drugs.

This solution presumes your typical violent gun offender is purchasing their gun legally in the first place. Unlike a 4-ton fucking airplane, a gun can be purchased illegally and concealed easily. So again, if someone had bad intentions, they can still get one off the black market or steal a family member's gun for cheap.

Also, who's paying for the psychiatrists/psychologists' time? You're creating about 50 million new doctors appointments on a bi-annual basis, and such appointments aren't free.

Just some things to think on as you refine your ideas.
 
Anyone think its poor taste to be interviewing kids? Especially hours after it just happened.
 
I figured he would get a few and these types of things don't even shock me any more, but the fact that he hit an elementary school and killed 27 people is insane. I don't know, man...
 
Considering the kids that were being interviewed, I don't think that they can even comprehend what happened. They're so young.
 
I'm substitute teaching in an elementary school right now. Some of the kindergartners are barely 5 years old. You don't get more innocent than an elementary school kid. Even when they act up, it's because they want your attention and care.

In short, you have to be a fucked up PoS to want to gun down a bunch of kids. There's a special place in Hell just for you.
 
This absolutely ruined my morning and is heartbreaking. There are 18 dead children ... and 18 families lives destroyed forever now. As soon as I read this it hit way too close to home and I was overwhelmed with sever emotion.

I need to hug my kids real bad tonight.
 
Unfortunate that the shooter can't be questioned. What would posses someone to do this? What factors led to him actually go through with this? Very sad for everyone involved, my heart goes out to them.

It's so logical and easy to implement that it's hard to believe people are against it.
 
Supposedly this elementary school goes up to 4th grade (CNN). That wold make it around 5 - 9/10 year olds. Absolutely disgusting.

The police had to tell the kids to close their eyes as they passed the school office when evacuating due to the apparent massacre that occurred in there. Fucking horrible.
 
Geezuz..thoughts out to the parents and the community. I don't know what I'd do if this happened to my son or daughter. Piece of shit mother fucker..
 
Everyone involved is probably traumatized for life. It must take a real monster to carry through with something like this.

That's the thing I guess with these insane-ass shooters, trying to outdo the previous one just so they can become an even bigger item on the news.

"I want to die and because nobody gives a crap about me I'll give them something to care about. At least I'll be remember"-type of deal I guess.

In that sense it really is a shame nearly all these shooters are killed or commit suicide instead of captured. I for one would love for people like this to be locked in a small cell with nothing but their thoughts for the rest of their lives. I feel no relief when I hear they've been killed on site.
