Honestly it would probably be good if the world ended on the 21st, we are such a fucked up species we don't deserve to be here. Edit: (Just the anger and sadness talking, not to be taken literally.)

My wife is an elementary teacher. Hits even harder just for that fact. Just fucking sickening.

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. Wanting to always detach the gun ownership debate from the impact of what the proliferation of it has caused is sniveling cowardice.

You want to have the opinion that gun rights should not be intruded on, feel free to own in a thread about dead children.

This is just horrific. Not that it's ever okay to shoot anyone, but an elementary school? 11 days before Christmas? What in the seven hells of fuck. I hope there's a special fire roasting for that mother fucker in hell.

Me too. I can't stop thinking about my kids. I want to go get them right now but I know that irrational. I feel like I need to pull away from this thread and stream but I just can't.

I've been crying for about an hour. So fucking devastating. There are no words.

I kept my kids home from school today because one was sick and the other was on the edge of being too sick, and it snowed so I figured what the hell.

Now I am irrationally glad I did. Even though I am in Washington state.

I'm sure your first sentence is hyperbole but focusing on the negative at the expense of everything else is not a healthy attitude to have.

Totally unrealistic in America where many jobs are tens or dozens of miles away from where people live. In Europe where biking to work is realistic, maybe. Also, the result would be a doubled prison population. See: war on drugs. What society would think it acceptable to send people to prison for a second time drinking offense? It's irrational and doesn't consider the loss of voting privileges and how nearly impossible it will be for those people to find work in the future. Which leads them back to drinking.

If you are prone to drive and drink you shouldn't be driving in the first place. One life is ruined, but a lot more can be saved.

This solution presumes your typical violent gun offender is purchasing their gun legally in the first place.

All the weapons owned by the Colorado shooter were legally acquired.

I'm sick to my stomach

The reality of the situation didn't really hit me until this picture. That little girl bawling her eyes out while she's evacuating her school, likely after having witnessed some amount of violence no human, let alone a child, should ever have to experience first-hand... damn...

Shit like this really makes me understand religion. I literally don't want to believe that guy who did this isn't being punished for it somehow.

Yeah, when I saw that just a moment ago it literally brought tears to my eyes.

I have three boys, the oldest in kindergarten.

I want tonfucking throw up. Then leave work and spend the day with them. At home.

Anyone think its poor taste to be interviewing kids? Especially hours after it just happened.

YES. What the FUCK are they thinking, sticking mics in the faces of little kids who just went through such horror? And what are the parents thinking?

Terrible judgment.

i can't imagine the crime scene and the law enforcement and emergency response people who will need to deal with it...

Some days I think "Man, cops get paid way too much to sit around and eat donuts" and then I see something like this and realize how wrong I am. I hope I never have to see something like what the inside of that school must have been like for first responders. Fucking nightmare city.

As a parent I think we have a unique and perhaps more direct perspective on this. It hurts. It really really hurts.

I feel like I'm about to throw up. Seeing this thread go from one or two people possibly to dead to double-digit fatalities was like being punched in the gut. I can only hope that the reports are confused and exaggerated but I don't want to get my hopes up.

My heart goes out to the families of all involved. :(

Fox are reporting a man was found in the woods wearing camouflage pants, and when the police saw him, he turned to them saying "I didn't do it. I didn't do it"

CBS reporting that a source is telling them this was domestic in nature and not a terrorist act.

Not sure the label matters...but there you have it.

It'll certainly matter for the discussions that will follow this event, as an outside agitator would change the narrative.

Seeing as it's domestic, likely the debate will be primarily regarding gun control, once again.
