This is so fucking fucked up.

I can't even imagine killing someone in self-defense, let alone taking aim at a child and pulling a trigger.

Absolutely unfathomable. Jesus Christ
Yes, that is how we know the gunman was insane. This does not mean the entire country is insane. Should all of Norway be locked down because of what Breivik did? No. We have a fuckton of people in our country. A lot of chances for one of them to be a sociopath. Yes, the balance between liberty and safety is a difficult one, but throwing around malicious characterizations of an entire nation in instances where the checks in place fail is absurd. Calm yourself.

This is how it always goes. What is to blame, guns or violent media?

I'm gonna go with the machines that are designed to injure and kill other living things.

Fuck CNN, seriously. Let those kids go home and be with their families in peace. I don't know how they can even comprehend what they just went through.

Why are all these freaks always in their early 20s. Being in your early 20s is awesome.

I was wondering about this.

Perhaps there's too many young adults with a lack of empathy at that age?

I dunno, they're bat-shit insane, can't make sense of that.

News briefing:

9:30 am: 9-1-1 call received
Evacuation of school ordered
School was searched (by law enforcement)
Shooter "deceased" inside building
Scene is secure
Multiple fatalities; no specific numbers released

give the parents some slack right now not one parent whose kid goes to that school is thinking in their right mind... most are probably half way crazy with worry and relief and sorrow right now.

I can't claim to be in the same mindset of those parents but I still can't imagine letting anyone shove a camera and microphone in my kid's face to discuss the murder of their classmates. No fucking way.

The "gun show loophole" allows consumers to buy guns on a whim at Gun Shows with no background checks and a Costco clubcard for id, basically.
As a gun owner and enthusiast even i agree that it's fucking stupid and needs regulation.

I don't deny that we need better regulation.

Christ I'm on the verge of tears. Sick and dying kids are the one thing in this planet that gets to me more than anything else, and typically that's referring to kids with terminal illnesses.

This is on a whole different level. I don't even know what to say. Thoughts are with the families, jesus it must be terrifying for them. Especially not knowing if your child was one of the victims.

I honestly hope hell is real and this guy rotting at the very bottom of it.

I guess it's the ultimate "goodbye and fuck you" to society to destroy something so innocent and cherished on your way out :(

Either that or just complete delusion...

You hear a lot about people stop taking their meds and losing it. Not making any assumptions on this situation though...

Conference:
911 at 9:30
Shooter search began as soon as they arrived. Evacuation right away.
Entire school searched.
No information until "proper notification" about deaths.

Scene is secure. Many agencies are working together. Public not in danger

No questions.

Well that was short..

Sounds like the shooter was 20 years old so it was all likely legal firearm ownership. Early reports are a .223 rifle, so this is the resistance he had at acquiring the rifle in his state;

Connecticuit Gun Laws for Rifles and Shotguns:
Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No
Registration of rifles and shotguns? No
Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No
Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No

So in other words, zero resistance. Walk in and buy, nothing else required other than to be 18. That doesn't strike even the most hardline gun advocates as a little fucking lax? Takes more effort to get a god damn fishing license in NYS.

I think we can excuse parents right now, they are all probably completely in shock and out of their heads. Blame the people asking in the first place.

I'm not going to argue, but if they truly were not in the right state of mind and were in the state of sorrow, they wouldn't have put their kids on tv. Just saying.

The motherfucker used this gun:

How is this legal?

Coward.

Totally unacceptable.

States already have a hard enough time enforcing the screening laws already on the books effectively. Allowing them to buy them without any checks at all is just a slap in the fucking face.

Considering how easy background checks are (it's just a phone call to the state or whoever and they run a background check... the decision comes down very quickly), that's pretty shocking to know. I'm disgusted.

That said, I haven't heard of any of these mass murderers acquiring their guns from gun shows. Fortunately. That needs to be addressed before it does happen, though.

If we have to wait after every tragedy to discuss the implications of our politics, then we will just be constantly mourning with no opportunity of reform.

Except political bickering leads to nowhere 99% of the time, so how much better is it than a constant state of mourning? At least after mourning people can be more united in their views and have a greater sense of team work to solve the problem.

Politicizing the issue especially when emotions are running high is ultimately useless and irrational. Not to mention parents will most likely not agree with the politicians that are using their kids in their pawn game. How insulting and classless.
