We're not using made up scenarios. We're simply discussing the question of whether we are going to be simple-minded enough to believe that someone who can and desires to kill a dozen kids would simply cancel his massacre plans because he can't buy his gun over the counter. Point being, there are many, many ways to get a gun in the US illegally. It's pretty easy, actually. That's the problem, and adding certain rules and regulations will only result in those alternative acquisition options becoming more popular.

Right, explain how one would easily acquire an assault ruffle.
It would be much harder to obtain an assault riffle if they were banned. If no stores or people have them, crimininals cannot steal them (not to mention resale them).
This story makes me sick, I wasn't for an outright assault weapon ban before. I sure as hell am now.
