Swag.

Though, hopefully, the "dark and depressing" actually ends up being "introspective and ultimately uplifting." That's what I want in my Superman.

I love how Snyder doesn't even try to hide his love of manga here. I still can't believe he's doing man of steel right after what happened with Suckerpunch.

Edit:

Man of Steal Batman's BO record. I think this movie might do well enough for us all to forget that GL film that never happened, and give us all the justice league film we deserve.

what were the studio expectations for sucker punch? they can't have realistically expected it to be a massive hit, it was always going to have limited appeal.

I don't know, I presume they gave him a free pass after 300, and watchmen doing sort of well. Wait, no, Watchmen did bad didn't it?
I have no clue.

I'm ready for a darker Superman. I want depressing, and self doubt. I want to shed tears, and question my life. I don't want goofey Avengers stuff.

I think my favorite scene in returns was when Supes fell to earth like a meteor. I remember welling up inside.

.....so you didnt know how that movie was going to end like 30 mins in? ...really?

Who would your dream casting be for Luthor? Its a toss of a coin between Tom Cruise or Denzil Washington for me. I'm leaning more towards Washington and possibly have Cruise play Brainiac, if they go down that path.

It was rumoured that
Bradley Cooper
was playing Lex in the cameo.

So much rides on this movie. They hopefully won't fuck it up.

To be fair, he was playing a douche Cop in that movie.

hm... doesn't look the part at all

whoever it is, they should be a menacing evil mastermind (pretty much the opposite of what he has been portrayed as on the big screen so far)

Where'd this "rumor" come from? Some kid fart it out on a messageboard somewhere?

google edit: Ah. Comic Book News floated it over a year ago - it got debunked within the month.

I can't see a avatar sequels even beating avatar. It brought 3d movies to the mainstream. Now 3d is blasé and it wasn't a universally appraised masterpiece that has people chomping at the bit to see a sequel.

I don't logically see the Avatar sequels coming close to topping the first film either. But then you add in the Cameron wildcard and logic goes out the window.

Way too much trolling going on today. I can't wait for the first serious claims of beating Avatar at the box office. I will be all in on that bet.*

*Unless it's against Avatar sequels.

You don't think Avengers 2 can beat Avatar? The first one came pretty close to Titanic numbers I believe. They used to say not only could Titanic never be topped but that no movie would be able to come close to it because of inflation blahblahblah and that was proven wrong.

I think one of the Star Wars sequels might even have a chance too if Episode VII successfully rebuilds the franchise like Batman Begins did for Bats.

Way too early to call numbers on The Avengers sequel. There are a couple of Marvel movies in between, and who knows where the franchise will be once the ball starts rolling for the second film.

Maybe if the Avengers sequel hits in 8 - 10 years it will have a chance. Otherwise no. Do you understand that as successful as The Avengers was, it's still something like 1.3 billion dollars short of Avatar?

I just treat Sucker Punch as a series of unrelated vignettes, and in that regard I love it.

I get the hate, but all it takes is a shift in expectations, and it becomes amazing.

Avengers 2 certainly has the best shot of breaking Avatar's BO record out of any movie coming out in the next few years.

I wouldn't exactly bet on it, but if it happened I don't think anyone would really be taken by surprise.

Umm, I think everybody would be taken by surprised. A 1.3b increase over its prequel is a pretty fucking staggering increase.

Went to see The Hobbit today. Was hoping to see Man of Steel trailer before it but instead got the shitty 'Jack the giant killer' trailer. :(

I'd rather the films just be good then care about how much coin they make for the companies, and Avengers already took a massive shit on Avatar in that regard; hopefully the sequel won't be much different.

High concept style stuff like that is always limited.

From what I understood it was the studio basically saying "Hey, you have made us a shit load of money. Have this stack of cash to go blow on whatever you want".

Avengers was the superior film compared to avatar. James Cameron, like all the other 80s directors, just lost his touch. Avatar was literally like warching phantom menace again but without jake Lloyd.

And he's already made it clear that avatar 2 is basically that naboo underwater sequence from phantom expanded into a three hour film to which I think most people will say No Thank You to.

Seriously...

How can no one tell Clark Kent is Superman!? Does Clark Kent in this movie just have a fake beard on during his time in Metropolis and takes it off when he's Superman? Cause that's the only acceptable answer.

Looks badass with a beard.

Compared to Superman, Kent has bad posture and slouches, wears glasses, and has a higher pitched voice. Looks like a bit of a weakling in comparison.

Yeah I think the idea was that nobody could ever believe Clark could be Superman despite the resemblances.

It doesn't look like they are going to do the bumbling Clark (I hope, at least) so it'll be interesting how they deal with that. New Kryptonian power where he can induce beard growth at will? lol

I wouldn't mind if Lois pieces it together by the second film... I hate how one of the best reporters can't figure that out, it's kind of stupid really. But then they can't play on the whole Clark constantly clock blocking himself.

I haven't read All-Star in a while but didn't Clark become clumsy because he was trying to be careful? Tiptoe-ing around in a world of cardboard might have that effect on someone.

I'd buy that. :P

Avengers is nowhere near as good as Avatar and I think Avatar is JC's weakest movie. At least it looks like it was shot by a person that has been behind a camera before.

I cant remember where, but I thought in one comic someone thought Superman had low level telepathic powers. That way when he is Clark Kent he is putting off a low powered vibe to everyone telling them he is Clark Kent and not Superman.

Why doesn't he make Lois and Jimmy take their clothes off all the time then?

There's a whole process involved that includes shifting his voice, changing his posture and body language (Ma Kent had him study acting), and wearing loose-fitting clothes so his figure is hidden (He actually looks kind of fat to people as Clark). The glasses also hide his eyes, which are an unnatural shade of blue.

Another thing to remember is that no one thinks Superman even has a secret identity, so they're not looking for one.

(Not an amazing explanation, but that's the one we got)
