omg a new Empowered mini comic was in my box. Cool surprise

Yay new Sif day also

aaand Supergirl and Nightwing, awesome day! I should go on wednesday more often

Simon Baz day is best day. It's nice to get a new spin on the Lantern mythos and see things from a different perspective. I look forward to his interactions with
B'dg
.

Another strong issue of Thor and Daredevil.

Ind. Hulk was kinda meh.

Hawkguy is awesome as usual, but Fraction writes him the same as his Danny Rand. It just makes me sad that Iron Fist has been relegated to wallpaper in Bendis's Avengers.

How is a $2.99 book expensive?

Shelly Bond has become the new Executive Editor of Vertigo.

Can't find it for less than $8 - tried Amazon and two local shops. One shop had it at $8, the other had it listed as $2.99 but didn't have it in stock.

To all you floppy or digital buyers, this comes out this week:

I think next year my big comics catchup project will be the Hellboy universe. I'm gonna take the plunge.

You're in for a treat. =) Where are you so far, or are you totally new?

Three issues are out. I believe he's doing minis, with the first perhaps being four issues. I was really really impressed, and as much as I love Saga's world building, I think this may work on more levels so far. Big words there, but I really believe in it.

TTOB here turned me on to it, and may know more about the schedule/plan.

Cool. That's really my favorite format, and I might be able to pick up all three issues in one go.

Totally new.

I've seen the live-action and animated movies. I liked Hellboy, Hellboy 2 less so. I'm not a particular fan of Guillermo del Toro's however; the animated ones were fun for what they were.

I've always loved Mignola's style, even though I don't think I've read a single thing he's done. I'm fully expecting to dig the comics since it's allegedly a very well coordinated universe and all that. I like the concepts.

Just finished Uncanny X-Force. I suppose it was the tiniest bit cheap, but I really liked seeing
Fantomtroix
. So long, Remender. You did good. :)

One of my favorite artists in comics, easily - be warned, though, he relinquishes artistic control to multiple guest artists about halfway through the series. They're all competent, some of them even great, but they don't really match the feel of the earlier Mignola-drawn chapters. When Mignola comes back to do art, he seems to have degenerated somewhat from his inactivity. I'm hoping his returning to full-time art on In Hell will get him back up to speed.

Obviously my favorite series of all time. I look forward to hearing your impressions.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind.

All New X-Men is my surprise hit so far. So consistently good. Damn.
Vanilla Avengers is kind of as good as I was hyped for, which is a bunch.
Avengers Arena is a waste, I'm dropping it. I gave the chance to a concept I didn't like and I'm not giving more chance to a narrative I'm not enjoying either.
A+X is another pleasent surprise. Short team-up stories work very well when they don't try to be nothing more than nice cozy superhero fun.

That's fine, I know a lot of other artists and writers become involved. I've glanced at previews for recent BPRD stuff and certainly none of the art offends me or anything.

Why you hatin
on me
dawg?

UXF ended in great fashion. Not too cheesy or cerebral. I loved the panels with deadpool talking to the student. It was so nice to see Deadpool act like a human being. I now await UXF 1 and definitely hope to give it a chance.

End of UFX was good. Perfect cap to a legendary run. Seeing
Deadpool in a fatherly role
was pretty hilarious.

Question:
Did Remender bring up anywhere else in this run that Fantomex has multiple brains? I know this from reading New X-Men and poring over his wiki page but for someone not familiar with that aspect of his character it seemed like it could have been sprung out of nowhere. I may have just missed mention of it earlier though.

Regarding the multiple Fantomexes, what happened to the black/bad Fantomex? He disappeared into a little hologram EVA and says he "was already gone" but they don't say where he went. Also, am I right in thinking that the Femtomex from Humphries' UXF is actually going to be this new 1/3'd body and not a hussied up EVA? If so rad, that'll be a good example of the solicits throwing me for a loop and delivering something unexpected.

Edit: So wait, is
Fantomex's mother some sort of AI construct like Evan's uncle Cluster? That combined with Fantomex having the evil sentinel portion of his brain in him this whole time makes a pretty neat parallel between his own life and what he did for Evan and adds a pretty neat poetry to the series overall. Damn, nice Remender...

I saw it as Black Fantomex using his power of misdirection to get away. He's the killer part of the brain right? The one Cap Britian was talking about.

Comixology has another weird crazy sale.

Childrens Crusade 1-8
Scarlet Spidey 1-6
Age of Apoc new one 1-5
some winter soldier and other stuff
Astonishing X-Men whedon run
lots of brand new day spidey
Captain America brubaker start......lots of random stuff.

also Superman 101 sale with the full All Star Superman 12 issue mini, Superman For All Seasons, and Birthright among many other. Kingdom Come for $4 total.

Ok, that makes 1,000% sense and I'm stupid for not realizing it immediately. So awesome that
there are now 3 of them on the loose now
. I wonder how they're going to be used in the future. Remender said in the afterward that the official sequel to UXF was starting in Uncanny Avengers 5, I wonder how much of this stuff is going to roll over into that. Can't wait.

i believe he has said the apocalypse will appear in Uncanny avengers.

Avengers, THor and wonder Woman were great this week. Hawkguy as well

A lot of his plot threads and ideas are being reworked for his Marvel NOW books. Pestilance is supposed to give birth in UA #5, so he's got big stuff planned for Apocalypse and Clan Akkaba. And Dr. Mind Bubble(one of the Weapons of Weapons Plus/X hinted at here in DAS) is gonna show up later in Captain America(who's the original Weapon of the Weapon Plus program, so that makes sense).

Yessssss, Remender's blueprint, give it to me!

I laugh at everyone that was bitching about UA because of the slow (st)art. I'll follow Rick to heck and back. As far as I'm concerned he might as well be his own imprint within Marvel.

I've had my issues with UA so far(particularly Cassaday's art delays and strangely disappointing panel work), but apparently Remender said shit gets real in #3-4. And Acuna replacing Cassaday as the series artist is an improvement, in my mind.

I heard Remender is going to make connections with Aaron's young viking Thor to Uncanny Avengers.

It's incredible how well Remender and Aaron can work together and enhance their stories without interference.

Quick impressions of my first few reads on this crazy packed day.

Saga #8: Shit is so cash. Marko's parents are the best.

Indestructible Hulk #2: Cool issue, enjoyed Tony and Bruce's banter.
Math pun part was priceless.
I'm not crazy about Yu's art but it's not a huge turn off or anything. Pretty light on the action as well.

Multiple Warheads #3: Brandon Graham is so good at making me enjoy comics that make no sense and don't seem to have any kind of overarching plot. The art and witty writing more than make up for any of that "plot" garbage though.

Hawkguy #6: It was the fucking best, what else did you expect? Great issue and it's so nice to have Aja back. Any word on how many of the upcoming issues are going to be his?

Got a digital code for Hulk #2 if anyone wants it btw. First to quote gets it.

I haven't caught up on Warheads yet but I picked up #1 for free yesterday. It's pretty great, yeah? It's like King City: there's a bunch of weird shit happening but the weird shit is backdrop. It's frosting. That comic is really just about a guy coming back to his hometown after being away for a while and finding out that everything is different. Or maybe it's just him that's different, I dunno.

I get a similar feel from what I've read of Warheads so far. Nura (the assassin chick) is fun stuff but the real moments are with the main couple, just doing normal crap elevated to surreality with the setting. I don't mean it in a bad way when I say this but it's just a (weird) roadtrip comic (like SAGA and the Fraction/Bagley F4 seems to be) because this comic fucken owns.

Yo I forgot about Saga! Also I would gladly take that Hulk code.

Totally agree with you man, really great stuff. This run ends in January but I thought I saw in an interview that he's going to be doing more of these small Multiple Warheads runs a couple times a year(or maybe once a year).

What the hell this is insane

A lot of Johns' stuff is in that Superman sale on comixology. I really enjoyed some of it. Secret Origins is great, as is his Legion story. I also liked his take on Brainiac.

Bizarro World and the Donner Zod story is also interesting.

Um... wow. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go spend a million dollars on Comixology.

Hah, not hatin' in the least!
It was just a little "Happy Ending!" that I wasn't expecting. Though I guess it's not like Remender copped out - he killed Daken. I kind of hope that sticks. Most people don't really know what to do with him, and he works better as a tragic reminder of Logan's failings rather than an actual character. Kind of like Jason Todd for Batman.

But yeah, UXF... Remender wasn't really on my radar much when that book launched - I pretty much knew him as the guy on Frankencastle that I wasn't too interested in and for this arc he'd done on Booster Gold, oddly enough. I hadn't read Fear Agent yet, so I wasn't really aware that he could pull out all the stops. I wasn't even going to read UXF (I really didn't like the Kyle/Yost run), but then the first issue got all of that praise, so I figured I'd give it a go. I was sold at this page:

35 issues later, it's (in my opinion) not just the definitive X-Force run, but one of the definitive X-Book runs of all time. The Dark Angel Saga alone is basically a clinic in how to write a Marvel comic.

EDIT: And yes, if you ask me, Remender writes the definitive Deadpool. He's a wise-cracking ass, for sure, but he's a person. He can emote and tone down the crazy when he needs to. And you can tell he really
cares about Evan. I hope that won't go away as Evan continues on in WatXM.

It is not surprising you pretend to hate on anything that is close to being popular or a title that actually sells.

Pretend?

I stuck with it for six issues before I dropped it.

I didn't dislike it, it just didn't do anything for me on any level. Didn't like any of the characters. Story wasn't going any place interesting. :\

Speaking of wildly overrated books - who the fuck is Manifold? And why is it Aborigine dudes are always teleporting people around Mehvel? That's as ridiculously coincidental as every immortal being a Macleod. :X

Finally a somewhat interesting Avengers team! It only took adding a bunch of mutants and mashing up the Prometheus story to make it happen. :P

All those big plans and still no hint at Adam Brashear anywhere in the book.

Hickman created him for Secret Warriors - he was Gateway's pupil.
Now that Gateway's dead, he's the only mass teleporter left, I suppose
. It's not surprising that Hickman would make him an Avenger.

So I think that Thor is the best book out of the Marvel Now! lineup so far. Maybe things are helped by the fact that I had zero expectations for the title, but it has been really excellent so far (other than the design of the antagonist). The God Butcher story sort of feels like something we would have seen in Gaiman's Sandman run. I'm hoping that the last two issues of the run live up to the first three.

so far during mega comixology sale i'm just in for the 4 issue Superman For All Seasons mini that i never read. I want Scarlet Spidey and Age of Apoc though but i might wait for an ultimate collection trade.

What is the consensus on Aaron's last Inc Hulk arc? The OHC vol 2 is 9 issues and half off at instock trades along with Brian Bolland Judge Dredd OHC.

If it includes Stay Angry then it's this year's Frankencastle. The very last storyline wasn't as good.

So, Uncanny X-Force. Am I the only one that kind of wanted
Fantomex to stay dead? Didn't care for his resurrection that much, although the triplets angle I'll admit is interesting.

It's kind of a mess. I think there was like a 6 or 7 issue stretch during the latter half of it that didn't have a single artist repeat an issue. There were some fun story moments. Basically (premise spoiler)
Banner is manipulating Hulk whenever he's NOT angry, so it's kind of like the Hangover, insomuch as Hulk wakes up after a night of being Banner and has to figure out what the hell he's gotten him into

I had fun reading it, though it was also the first Hulk comics I read since like 5th grade, so I'm hardly an authority on whether it was any good or not relative to whatever else is out there. Feel free to take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah, sorry bro, you're the only one.

i should probably read my vol 1 ohc first ( obviously ) but it sounds like i should get Stay Angry if comixology ever puts it on sale or in the year 2015 when MDCU gets an actual ipad app
