Hawkguy got a special shout out in BKV's little letter in the back of Saga #8 btw. Said both him and Staples think it's crazy good.

Totally awesome. Also, Hawkguy gets so much love from other teams on Twitter, it's really great that it seems to be so universally loved.

I thought I'd like Action Comics, but I can't say I was impressed. I dunno, it just seemed dull to me.

That's the impression I got from it too. I know a lot of people in this thread dig it but elsewhere, it's a constant refrain of " Action Comics is Morrison-lite", at least until the latest issue which even people who weren't feeling the run loved.

ST/AM are not my thing at all. I found both extremely tedious early on. Probably should give Aquaman another chance though.

My wife always called him that.... I thought thats just what all the poser Hawkeye fans that never liked him before this new comic called him too.

I hate to sound like a broken record on this, but...

No Man's Land: The Novelization >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No Man's Land: The Comic Event.

I'll see if I can get it on the Fire but I loved that whole event when it was going on. I bought it aaaallllll.

all of it

Sorry guys. As of #2, Avengers Arena is officially fantastic.

Deathlocket for Class Treasurer
Benjamin, confirm my suspicions that are based on nothing: is the little robot girl
playing the role of "killer in disguise, who's sweet and lovable and look how sad and precious she is, let's all protect her and OH MY GOD SHE'S STABBING ME WHILE I SLEEP"?

Cap, Thor, Avengers, FF, Hulk, Avengers Arena, Cable & XF, All New X-Men were all fantastic this week. I am really digging this Marvel Now thing as its brought a lot of new life to these characters.

Thunderbolts however -
really, Red-Skull Punisher and Red-Spider Venom?
Awful awful book.

Does anyone else get Morrison JLA vibes from Hickmans Avengers book? The plot, new villians, invasion from mars, and a roster made up of "left field" choices all seems to be heavily influenced by what Grant did on JLA in the late 90s/early 00s.

I like how the flashback to the future in Uncanny X-Force #35
validated what they'd been doing all along
, though I'm sure it will be hammered home that Heroes Can't Be More Than Human in Uncanny Avengers.

Deadpool made me want to puke, but it's cool that an arc from Waypool is now complete.
Wade is finally a real hero.

Stumbled on the CBR forums. Do any of the posters on their even like comics? Seems to be even on classic runs like X-Men or UXF or even Hawkeye, half the comments in there are about how much it sucked. Maybe I was naive to think people read these "graphic novels" for the enjoyment.

So it's like the gaming side here.

Not in the slightest. Morrison is a big ideas man like Hickman, but his JLA was all about punching big things.

No Man's Land: The Novelization >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No Man's Land: The Comic Event.

Finished reading it yesterday, and it is superior in almost every possible way. It's incredible how Rucka took this ponderous, sprawling event and turned it into a tightly paced, emotionally gripping story about the compromises that good men make when the world is turned on its head by disaster. It's given me a new appreciation for characters like Jim Gordon and Susan Essen and Huntress (FINALLY I see how the hate for Nu52 Huntress is justified), and a rekindled hatred for the Joker. Rucka's interpretation of Harley was admittedly a bit one-dimensional, but that's okay; she's meant to be a device working off Joker, no more. It's not a perfect book, but it's one of the best Batman stories around, and as an experience it's head and shoulders above reading the graphic novels.

In no position to debate this, but I just wanted to say that the first volume of No Man's Land is one of my favorite trades I've read.

My problem with Arena is that it's trying to be both The Hunger Games and Battle Royale, and not succeeding at being either one. It's either too compressed or not enough, and it's probably too shy with its gore. And while I totally dig that second kill, it happened way too early.

I don't want to say you're reading it wrong, but...

Wonder Woman #15: I rather enjoyed this issue. I like Diana treating Zola and Hera like children, as well as her interactions with Lennox. Actually, I think Lennox might be my character from this run. Orion and "Scarred Giant Man with Cape" are pretty cool too. That was kind of a random new power for Diana, but I can go with it.

Avengers #2: I'd probably be more into this if I liked the villain, but Ex Nihilo and the others are just doing nothing for me.

Captain America #2: Such a great issue. Remender did a excellent job with making the situation truly hopeless, and making you admire Steve all the more for having hope anyway. I love the world Remender and Romita Jr have built.

I'll read the rest of my stuff later.

I don't want to say you're reading it wrong, but...

Okay, please explain what makes this book work for you.

Meanwhile, X-Men Legacy #3 is kinda sorta done with the set-up and moves to some slightly larger picture stuff and it's amazing and irreverent and crazy and fun and let's talk about how good that was.

AA#2 was leagues better than #1. I will say that besides the first pages which was unneeded that soon.

Also Deathlockette will die as a result of Apex manipulating her. She obviously is the lovey dovey adorable death that makes people go NOOOOOOO!

And the X-forums at times is good. Other times, not so much.

I wish I wasn't so terribly slow with the catching up so I could do more than just lurk. I appreciate the discussions, I'm going to give Saga, Nowhere Men and Thor a try because of posts in this thread. I'm still slowly getting back into comics though (mostly going through old issues of Hellboy), but for the current stuff I'll get Multiple Warheads 3, All New X-Men 4, Avengers 2 and Hawkeye 6. Hoping to have some reading time tomorrow.

After reading some more from my backlog I have come to the conclusion that I hate H'el and think he is a horrible villain/character.

I got a Avengers #2 digital code to give out. Answer this X-Men question:

Name and identify (War, Pestilence, Death and Famine) the original Horsemen of Apocalypse and the Final Horsemen that appear in UXF.

Halfway into Izombie vol 2 tpb, i liked the first volume a bit more, not a fan of
the monster hunter guys in white coats

Got an early, comic related Christmas gift :>

Fiona Staples Action Comics #15 variant.

What say you, Comic-GAF? Best issues of ASM included in that Comixology sale? Pre-Big Time.

-#600, big anniversary issue, 100 pages, a fun essentially 3-issue size lead story by Slott/Romita Jr of Spidey vs Doc Ock, etc

-#611, Joe Kelly-written, Eric Canete's high energy cartoony artwork is perfect for this Deadpool vs Spider-Man issue. It's frantic, it's hilarious, and it ends with Spidey vs DP in a "Yo Mama" joke contest with a bunch of kids going "Ooooh" at all the lines. For real

-#615-616, "Keemia's Castle", Sandman-story. Charming, bittersweet Spidey story with awesome Javier Paulido artwork

-#617, 625, a two-part Rhino story essentially, the best one not named "Flowers for Rhino". A great read, even if you can see where it's inevitably heading. Kelly/Fiamura

-#618-620, Mysteriso, a Slott/Martin joint. No spoilers, but it's a three part story that gets better as it goes along until it's great finale, all with amazing Martin artwork.

-#630-633, "Shed", by Wells/Bachalo. One of the darkest Spidey stories I've ever read, but also one of the best. If you're willing to rule with the punches, this might be the best story in the run.

I didn't even realize the Mysterio arc was Slott. The tone is completely different from Big Time. Yea those are pretty much the best Brand New Day arcs they're offering.

A new Locke & Key dropped for those reading the series. Touching issue, in it's usual twisted way.

Hawkeye was stellar, which is par for the course.

Avengers Arena is on my shortlist...such a fun comic so far.

Bendis did it again on ANXM. He is really surprising me.

Best issue of the week is Saga. I know opinions differ and I respect that, but comparing it to the Star Wars prequels is Drew Magary levels of trolling bull$#!7. Not only does the comparison make absolutely zero sense, but it's one of those loaded statements designed to draw attention and stir up controversy. The most laughable part is criticism of Fiona Staples and her art. Given the source, it's akin to the world's best stick figure artist thumbing his nose at the Sistine Chapel.

"They never could have built it without pulleys and levers!"
