Sounds fun.
Jesus that is frickin' awesome, basically you're getting an objective that you can only hear (since you have to listen to the voice by putting the Wii Remote to your ear). So your buddies that you're playing with don't know what your objective is, because they can't hear the voice.

This could be the best use of the speaker yet.

That does sound cool as hell.

For anyone who hasnt seen it yet, this dojo video;

Is awesome. The animation is top-notch, and the graphics look really, really good.

how would you look around then? you need lock-on if you're going to use motion-based sword combat, just wish the lock-on was user controlled rather than forced. Your character could even become ninja-like in sword lock-on so he could dodge and sprint at the enemy allowing you to do rapid sword kills upon single enemies for silent kills and increased stealth
Hold [insert button] to activate swing mode.

I still cannot believe that Time Crisis hasn't been announced for Wii.

This console is crying out for these types of gallery-shooters and I would buy the Time Crisis collection (or better yet a brand new TC) for Wii immediately. Two player TC was always so much fun in the arcades (or using both guns yourself)

I reckon Wii could create a sort of hybrid between FPS and gallary-shooters.

- keep the camera viewpoint completely automatic as found in Time Crisis. The player just shoots at enemies appearing on the screen. B trigger to shoot.

- perhaps the default setting is to be hiding behind an object for cover. Pressing A would make you pop up and allow you to shoot at enemies. Twisting the wiimote left/right would allow you to lean around the sides of you area of cover to take shots from a different position.

- you could have some control over where you decide to take cover. Some of the d-pad buttons could be used to select other local but pre-determined objects to take cover behind. So you could vary your tactics in a "static" shoot-out, or dodge behind cover (or leave cover) in sections where the game is moving your character on-rails through an area

Perhaps even using the nunchuck controller would allow for even more variety without every leaving the core concept of a fixed camera perspective for you to shoot within (gallery style).

In this same style Wii sounds absolutely perfect for Gears of War cover and move gameplay!! Gears of War should be on Wii*

Blimey, that really is very nice - it looks like Ubi are finally matching their target renders. Lighting is great, character models look smooth & relatively detailed and textures are generally solid, though a little flaky in places. The animation is pretty damn good, but it does seem to lose some life at points. Not entirely sold on the swordfighting as it still looks less fluid than I'd like - the slightly robotic attack/parry/attack/parry pattern makes it look less like a swordfight (or at least like a movie swordfight) and more like turn-based combat. Other videos also seem to show off some levels that aren't completely finished, so it seems there is perhaps a little more work still to do.

Still, this is shaping up to be a pretty damn good third-party launch title.

Actually, having just watched the vid with the chap from the dev team playing through a level, the swordfighting looks a lot more dynamic when the player actually knows what they're doing...

(I agree the way it works in game is stupid)

Red Steel has come a long way, glad to see the game is coming together nicely. I'm seriously reconsidering my initial purchase of Wii Madden for Red Steel.... 3RD PARTIES FIGHTS!

Red Steel is slowly becoming the new Counter Strike for consoles as it is with PC, the Mission Mode using the Wii speaker to detect player presence is simply just a brilliant idea.

In the end though, and I'm willing to bet even a thousand bucks with it , this will sell more than resistence fall of man and gears of war. This could even be a break through as the first FPS really to be embrace by the Japanese gaming public.

I'll be getting it, make no mistake, but this ain't the next Counter Strike by a longshot.

No online killed that kind of potential.

Wait for Red Steel 2. Maybe then we'll see.

Dear anyone who records wii gameplay videos on a digital camcorder. ALWAYS SHOW THE GOT DAMN GAME!!! Don't show the game then pan around to see the guy playing. DON'T SHOW THE GUY PLAYING IF YOU CAN'T GET HIM AND THE GAME IN THE SAME SHOT! Other than that thank you for the footage and keep up the good work.

You don't aim at the screen in that game as far as I know. You could play that version of Duck Hunt with your hand by your side.
A) You could play virtua cop that way.
B) You can claibrate the pointer by aiming at the 4 corners. After that you'd have 1:1 aiming.

You aim at the screen, more or less. I've played it. You can play with your hand by your side (since you're using an on-screen cursor), but you do have to point the Wiimote toward the sensor bar.

I'm sorry but the guy who recorded those 4 videos showed the guy playing the game more than the game itself. I was so pissed watching those videos it was like chinese water torture. Evertime the action got good it was like he HAD to show the guy playing instead almost like he was doin the sh*t on purpose. I cannot stress enough to you camera men to NOT DO THAT.

You're not actually allowed to do that. Nintendo don't like you filming the screen directly because they don't want people seeing the game without understanding how the controllers work with it. At all recent events Nintendo personnel are told to watch out for it and anyone caught filming the screen for prolonged period is asked to stop.
That's why it happens.

At big events it's hard for them to stop people but at an event like this one. . .

I can understand why they do it, but I think the ideal scenario is to do screen-in-screen. . . but then you'd need two cameras.

One thing to note, for the technically minded of you out there, is that the controller's aim does NOT work like a lightgun - your on-screen cursor isn't positioned in the exact location that you point the remote. It works more like a mouse - the sensor bar detects your movements and translates them to scaled-up movements on screen. And also like a mouse, there will be a sensitivity option that'll allow you to set how fast the on-screen cursor moves relative to your hand movements.

sensitivity settings thank God. now this game will be great

woohoo
