Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

I am glad he's not catering it up to anyone and will just say his opinion based on what he played and not on what should have been, others say, etc.

This is true, and others are free to deconstruct his picks. We'll see what the whole list looks like, but I personally couldn't more strongly disagree with ME3 as his choice for GOTY. I appreciate an honest assessment from a reviewer because it tells me how much weight to give their opinions.

I'm rolling my eyes at some of you so hard right now. You could at least wait till my top 10 goes up and listen to what I had to say about it. Or, no, I guess you can't.

If you're gonna make people agree that ME3 is GOTY by reading them a paragraph of text, you should get into politics.

Any Walking Dead spoilers in the first day of podcasts? I'm actually playing through it right now.

Someone may need to correct me, but I think day one is the only podcast that's free of WD spoilers. Days two and five are definitely the most dangerous.

I am listening to it now and it had stuff about it (at least around the 50 minute mark and earlier a bit). I forget where it starts though.

As pointed out already, you've completely missed the point of the personal top 10 lists if you think that's my intent.

I said this about the giant bomb crew a month ago:

Jeff is gameplay mechicanics
Vinney is imersive experience
Brad is big budget grandeur
Patrick and Ryan is creativity and novelty
Alex Nevario is story

Is it any surprise that Brad gave his GotY to the only big budget game that is any good at all this year?

This isn't about catering to anyone. It's about a critic essentially making the statement that it's okay to clean up your story with paid DLC 6 months after everyone has played it, you won't be penalised. That should bother a veteran game critic enough to not give it their personal GOTY.

However, all of that is moot if he says during his Top 10 that ME3 would have been No.1 for him regardless of all the post-release stuff. In which case, fair play, he liked it.

To the others asking where's the love, I actually came in here to say glad you like the videos, and hopefully the weeks of spare content were worth it.
You guys did a great job. Your space marine performance brought a tear to my eye.

I was never someone that was actually angry at bioware, despite all of my serious complaints with ME3. That said, after watching that leviathin stuff, up yours bioware. It doesn't fix the overwhelming majority of the things I disliked about the game, but holy crap. How is this something that came out so long after the fact and talks about such weighty topics? I am almost in utter disbelief. Geez.
I agree with Patrick that this had to be almost entirely reactionary, but even so...

edit:
As pointed out already, you've completely missed the point of the personal top 10 lists if you think that's my intent.
I don't need to understand why you think things, just to know that you think them wronger than me.

You'll probably have to reassess your idea of my tastes after you see the rest of my list.

I love the Office parody from the first ten minutes, had to skip Brad's pick since I haven't even finished Mass Effect 3 yet (I'm thinking of getting the Omega DLC but I'm hearing it doesn't add that much to the game).

Still...The Office parody would be even more perfect with Vinny wearing Aviator shades and randomly high fiving people.

Borderlands 2 and BLOPS 2 were light years ahead of ME3. "Dudebro" BLOPS 2 even surpassed ME3 when it came to player choices making an impact on story outcome.

That's fine.

There's no reason why I can't enjoy your work but also think you are bonkers when it comes to ME3 not being a gigantic bucket of diarrhea dumped on the fans of the series.

Patrick's more like indie game connoisseur. I don't know what Ryan's is like though, that eludes me.

Eh. Jeff's is spot on but Brad's is questionable. Doesn't really explain his love of stuff like Flower.

Isn't that the point of opinion? To debate and discuss? Because someone opines something doesn't mean they can't be challenged on it.

Challenge it all you want but don't tell him that he's wrong to have enjoyed or that he has bad taste it just because you don't.

I get that it's part of a debate but when his opinion is called trash because of your opinions, what the fuck is the point? That's not a debate at all.

He enjoyed ME3 the most of all games this year. It was his GOTY. Boom. He's not wrong. He doesn't have bad taste. He just happened to enjoy something you didn't.

With rare (but welcome) exception, Gaf's idea of challenging an opinion consists of calling them "fucking nuts" and that the person with the opinion is a bad person and should feel bad.

There's not much value to the discussion and it becomes boring after a couple posts and annoying to read through after another dozen.

if this

Holy shit Brad's GOTY pick wtf

I love you Brad but you have terrible taste

Wow brad takes 8 months to play a game and its GOTY

it's 8, they said as much on the podcast last week.

And jesus tap dancing christmas what is wrong with Brad? is it just a case of "I played this most recent, BEST GAME"

Oh wow, I spoke too soon. Just finished the Day 1 recap and Jeff nailed my feelings: Gross. Leviathan is such a painfully reactionary DLC.

Sorry Brad, but you're a paid critic, you shouldn't be rewarding such sloppy and retroactive storytelling regardless of how much you enjoyed it in-the-moment.

is debating someone else's opinion, then sure.

OK I'll admit Brad is the biggest wildcard of the bunch, but considering his reasons for him being so adement for Skyrim as GotY last year had a lot to do with how big the game is, I figured that for his first love. I know he can default to other types of games in absence of those.

Its not like saying you love big budget games is an insult.
