Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

Are we not allowed to have opinions about opinions?

i'd say if most of gaf's opinions are about "brad, you idiot, your taste sucks, what a fool" then, in my opinion, your opinions are wrong.
am i not allowed to have opinions about opinions of opinions?

I love the Office parody from the first ten minutes, had to skip Brad's pick since I haven't even finished Mass Effect 3 yet (I'm thinking of getting the Omega DLC but I'm hearing it doesn't add that much to the game).
Played it Day 1 and I believe it actually clashes with the flow of the story. Pick it up only if you are really into Mass Effect. Otherwise skip/wait for a sale.
Borderlands 2 and BLOPS 2 were light years ahead of ME3. "Dudebro" BLOPS 2 even surpassed ME3 when it came to player choices making an impact on story outcome.
Why are people still using the term 'Dudebro?'
timestamps would be useful...

Only really need/want to play XCOM. Can that be spoiled that much?
Nope.

Debating and questioning their choices is all part of what makes it fun and interesting. As long as people don't get personal or get too upset, it's all good.

The Office parody was pretty well done. Can't wait for the next few days to see what else you've got. Also, please release top 10 videos, and the podcast before the recap.

Eh... I got the same experience as Brad (DLC and extended ending) as was playing ME3, so I can see his point.

Still, not my GOTY only for principle of explain and correct shit in DLC, but definitely in Top Three List specially because the Multiplayer. .

OK I'll admit Brad is the biggest wildcard of the bunch, but considering his reasons for him being so adement for Skyrim as GotY last year had a lot to do with how big the game is, I figured that for his first love. I know he can default to other types of games in absence of those.

Its not like saying you love big budget games is an insult.

Cinematic/artistic is probably more accurate.

Of course there will always be flaws when trying to sum up an entire person's opinion in 1 or 2 words.

EDIT: And Brad was right lol. Maybe you should just label his as "varied"

What's the order? Day One podcast, then roundup video, then Brad's video? Or video, then podcast?

I don't care about spoilers for the games, I just care about spoilers for the GOTY!

  1. Mass Effect 3
  2. The Walking Dead
  3. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
  4. Mark Of The Ninja
  5. Journey
  6. Asura's Wrath
  7. Far Cry 3
  8. Dust
  9. Frog Fractions
  10. Trials Evo

I wonder how GAF would respond if their favorite Vinny gave Mass Effect 3 1st or 2nd spot on his list.

Don't listen to it. The story is basically 99% of the game.
The story, but also the twists (supposing that there are any)? It's still about human drama, right? If getting certain things spoiled ruins it completely then is it actually a good story?

Hey guys, started listening to the podcast. I know they said that they will talk openly about game ending and stuff, but is there any 999 big reveal spoilers? I'm in the middle of playing it right now.

I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW TO CONSUME THIS....

Do I listen to the podcast then watch the videos?

I DONT GET IT. SAVE ME!!!!

No clue what is going on here. So much stuff.

It's a story about survival between a group of people. If you already know who's going to die, it ruins a fair bit of the drama.

Glad to see they kept the presentation more simple in the top 10 lists. It was much appreciated last year, but it made me hurt thinking about all that extra work.

Brad's video has those ME light flares. YESSSS
Solid list from Brad, even if I completely disagree with his choice for #1, but my biggest surprise was how low Mark of the Ninja and Trials were. I really expected them to place much higher on his list.
edit: I can definitely respect your reasons, though. I don't know that I personally would have held ME3 up high as a send off to my favorite franchise of this generation, but more power to you.

I hope Ryan's more assertive this time around. He pretty much got walked all over by Brad last year. He needs to get his honour back.

I'm dead serious. I don't understand if I should watch the video or listen to the podcast first.

The
white phosphorus
moment in Spec Ops got fucking robbed. What a fantastic gameplay commentary on stuff like the AC-130 mission in CoD 4. See the MC's
reflection in the laptop screen
was such a nice touch.

Brad has convinced me to replay the series in the near future and reluctantly, buy Leviathan, even if it feels sleazy, when I reach ME3. I'm avoiding that part of the day 1 video even though I have been somewhat spoiled.

Hey, if anyone catches spoilers for "To The Moon," give me a heads-up. I just started it last night, and I'll hopefully wrap it up today or tomorrow.

Just have to listen to the podcast first...

Brad will be getting his EA Christmas bonus this year.

I think Brad did a solid job of defending ME3 as his number 1 choice. He played it in a fashion that was very different than release date ME3. And he admits that taking 3 pieces of DLC to make the story more coherent isn't acceptable.

Just watch it on Youtube. Or read the Wikia article.
