Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

I hope my experience with ME3 will be similar to brads.

Over the next few months a plan to slowly work through the first 2 games again. Already half way through 1.

I hope they have some kind of complete version of 3 before I get to it though. Or at least a sale on the DLC since it sounds like the DLC fixes the problems people had with the game..... yeah thats kind of fucked up come.

Maybe ME3 should also win "worst trend" award for literally taking the best parts of the game and selling them as DLC. People joke about that but I think ME3 might actually be the first case of it happening.

I still think SR3 was not in any way a superior choice to Skyrim, so I didn't really care which game won last year. If anything I was slightly more content with Skyrim winning just because of the tears it produced around here. Total schadenfreude on my part.

I too have serious doubts that even Stonewall Shoemaker can convince the other guys that ME3 was better than TWD, Journey, or X-COM. After last year, Ryan really is the wild card here. All of that said, this is one year where the vast majority of the critical favorites are all games I'd actually be totally fine with if they win the big one. With the notable exception of ME3, not one of the games that people have been throwing around as possible nominees for GotY is a game that I would say I disliked.

Ugh. Brad's going to shoemaker-buster the last podcast for seven hours crying until they give up and give #1 to Mass Effect 3. Calling it right now.

C'mon Brad

Oh, wow, I totally forgot about that. Shocking turn!

But that's where Ryan comes in :O
Jeff is on top of his game (as we saw in the ME3 stuff). No way he's going to let anyone knock him down this year.

Can I get a summary of everything that has happened so far.
Giant Bomb outdoes itself with great presentation of GOTY stuff, people flip out over Brad's #1 pick, Brad tells people they need to check themselves before they wreck themselves, Brad gives a decent reason for his position in his video/text, podcast happens, and the guest top tens are posted.

Hmm.. maybe I should just say fuck it and listen regardless.
NO.

Then there was the Best Character discussion in 2010. Francis York Morgan getting snubbed by Brad, and then the fight between Mordin and Bayonetta that ended up with nobody knowing who actually won the award.

I want a Francis York Morgan action game. Hell just give me a skin of him for Bayonetta and I would be happy.

Did Patrick really just call Twisted Metal "dogshit" on the podcast?

#TeamPatrick, always

Yeah lol... the first thing I thought was.. wait...didn't they get Jaffe to do his top 10 on the site for the last couple of years? I wonder if he still will this year haha.

When discussing the AC3 moment, I thought it was obvious later on that
Haytham used to be an Assassin before turning Templar. That's why he has the wrist blade

I pledge my undying allegiance to #TEAMPATRICK.

Hes blowing this end of this year stuff out of the water with the 999 spoilercast and the sheer disgust and bafflement in the day 1 video.

#TeamKleptok here, too. ZombiU and 999 were great recommendations.

Twisted Metal could have been great; they nailed the mechanics but fucked everything else up.

I'm not sure about listening to the GOTY podcasts because I already spoiled myself on one big TWD thing.

However, I have no plans on playing it immediately (working on Sleeping Dogs atm) so I have a feeling that by the time I get around to it I may get spoiled on all of it before I get to play it anyways.

Plus, isn't it the sort of thing you need to take time between episodes?

Brad had a flash game in his top ten that he never mentioned on the site ever? man 2012 was pretty empty for games if he had to reach that deep.

It doesn't make sense as he doesn't even have Diablo 3 on there which he gave 5 stars to.

If he wanted to give a nod to frog factions he could have done it some other way, because I don't actually believe that if he had to choose he'd choose frog factions over a bunch of other games not on his list.

Oh Jesus I totally forgot Brad gave Diablo 3 5 stars. I'm sure there were probably more than 10 5-star games on the site this year so that's not an automatic pass or anything, but if I recall he was super into the game when it came out, wonder what happened there.

hey rudds, Asura's Wrath at #6? same as me! *hi5*

oh yea, ME3 at #1? my prediction will come true, muhahahhaa

The 'best music' portion of the podcast is crazy to me...they dismiss Max Payne 3 so quickly even though it was such a brilliant soundtrack, they're down on orchestral composition aka Journey....man.

I just played through episode 5 of Walking Dead in order to prevent the podcasts from ruining the ending for me. It sounds like some people have turned on the game due to episode 5(although I have no idea why, and I really dont want to know the reasons. I loved it and I dont need to see the inner workings) but fuck, that is one way to put a HUGE stupor on my christmas eve.

I almost completely agree with Brads top 10, although I cannot understand peoples love for Frog Fractions. It just didnt click for me, even after it goes completely insane.

When discussing the AC3 moment, I thought it was obvious later on that
Haytham used to be an Assassin before turning Templar. That's why he has the wrist blade
Pretty sure it's said in the codex that one of his parents was an Assassin and he inherited the hidden blade, recognising its usefulness and incorporating it into his arsenal.

I can follow Vinny's argument on why the twist feels "cheap" and Patrick's right in that they didn't "earn" it, it's true. Still, it got me and I liked it.

If he wanted to give a nod to frog factions he could have done it some other way, because I don't actually believe that if he had to choose he'd choose frog factions over a bunch of other games not on his list.

It would have made sense a bit more if he at least mentioned it on the bombcast ever.

Just seems random to have it there among all these other games they have talked at length about.

Will have to try it out.

He filibustered for a long time in 2010 on the Best DLC argument, going for BioShock 2's Minerva's Den over ME2's Lair of the Shadow Broker. It took them something like an hour to finally decide it.

In 2011 he held out for a long time with Skyrim against Jeff and Vinny's choice of Saint's Row The Third, until Ryan suddenly pulled a heel turn, joined with Brad, and voted for Skyrim even when he hadn't played it, at which point Jeff and Vinny were outnumbered and gave up.

I think there was a previous filibuster in 2009 between Arkham Asylum and Uncharted 2, but I can't remember if Brad was the culprit there. It might have been Jeff.

2011 wasn't a filibuster. Ryan pulled the heel turn at the very beginning of the conversation and it was obvious Skyrim was going to win from there on out. The resulting discussion was just them giving it its due.

I can't fathom someone having Walking Dead spoiled and deciding to play it anyways. That's crazy talk. Do not listen to these podcasts if you want to play that game and get any semblance of the experience the rest of us had playing it. Get Walking Dead right now (PC version is preferred as it doesn't have the weird hitching) and play through it. It will take like 14 or so hours. They don't barely spoil episode 4 and ignore 5 (somehow) in the first podcast so there is that.

The Office parody was so well done. If they do a different show every day my mind will blow.

They should keep the jazz intro as the bomb cast theme every week, it's great!

Finally watched the Day 1 Recap video. Good stuff! Can't wait to see what's in store for tomorrow!

As for Mass Effect 3 being Brad's GOTY, haha, remember how there was a chance that Brad wouldn't even get to ME3 this year? I think I remember the crew giving Brad 'til March to finish it. Imagine what would've happened if Brad never got to the game. I sort of envy Brad's experience, though. He really did play the game at the best possible opportunity.

I'm gonna spend the entire day tomorrow finishing 999. Not being able to watch Patrick's spoilercast is already eating me alive and I don't want to miss game of the year discussions. I won't make it with TWD though but eh, I don't care about it that much.

Day 1 cast not showin up in iTunes? Least on my phone it's not..

Asura's Wrath, Walking Dead, Journey

what is this, movie of the year?! You see, because none of those games are that gameplay relient. That's my joke.
I don't care for any of those, but I can understand them more than ME3

Just watched it. Made my XMas day. I'm still cracking
wise
-up over here. I played it on the apple TV for the family to watch......they will never understand.

PS: My mom thinks Brad beard looks good on him.

"They should have just thrown in button controls or something [into Kid Icarus]."

They did, Brad/Patrick. They are ass, as dual analog would be for that game. I'm sorry that GB as a collective was too stubborn to adapt to an objectively superior control scheme and therefore not sully the GOTY proceedings with the complete dogshit that is Double Dragon Neon.

Ugh. Brad's going to shoemaker-buster the last podcast for seven hours crying until they give up and give #1 to Mass Effect 3. Calling it right now.

No way, Patrick/Jeff won't have it (in recap video) and Brad even admitted that it's a "Return of the King" thing for him (in top 10 video) of finishing up lore rather than making it a universal GOTY for everyone else.

I'm guessing Walking Dead or XCOM.
