Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

For fuck's sake, no I didn't. Not even close, I think it was #4 for me at most. Some of you will pull any "fact" out of thin air to support your argument.

Explain these pictures of you and Fidel Castro giving thumbs up while playing ME1

For Various Reasons, I have yet to play Kid Icarus, but it's weird that it gets called out for a control scheme that many DS games used without much comment or nearly as much carpal tunnel. I'll readily concede that that might be due to how frantic the game is at times.

Yeah, the video itself was fantastic. Good dialogue, good camera work and editing, good performances by the crew, fantastic job.

Agreed. :)

it actually made me break down and go buy a 3DS today just so i could play Super mario 3D.

Holy shit, really? Super Mario 3D Land is a pretty goddamn good game. I just personally have a really hard time playing any sort of 3D action/platform game on a handheld, but that was one of the very few that I was able to get through.

I think a big part of the wrist hurt-y-ness is people pressing way too hard on the screen and their other hand having to support the extra weight.

Oddly enough is it just me or does my hands hurt regardless of game for all handhelds after a certain amount of time? These systems are shit erogonomics.

I badly wanted to like Kid Icarus because everything else about it (the writing, humor and personality, upgrade/progression mechanics) seemed kind of amazing, but just could not get past the controls. Playing a game shouldn't make your hands hurt.

They are amazing, Brad. When Kojima's reality becomes manifest, you will finally be able to enjoying Kid Icarus without pain thanks to your nanomachine hook hands.

I have the same problem after a certain amount of time, but for unique reasons. I have essential tremor and when I was in middle school I broke two fingers on my right hand that never healed 100% correctly. I guess I just built a mental immunity to the discomfort of holding a DS in my left hand and a stylus in the right (usually hooking my right pinky around the right side to balance it). Playing Trauma Center or Metroid Prime Hunters was hell at times, but I got over it.

I think the only game with slightly comparable criticism are the ds Zeldas, which people seem to love or hate (though the controls arent the only thing people call out). but theyre not very intense games.

Other games that use the touch screen like twewy dont use it for long periods of time since battles are short, so you can hold the ds again. Something like hotel dusk lets you hold the ds like a book so you can still support it well.

I think handhelds have passed an arbitrary threshold of weight that makes them a little unwieldy.

I was playing P4G on my Vita and jeez, no clue where to put my fingers and no way to hold that system with one hand.

I wonder what the wiiU gamepad feels like after a four hours.

What surprised me more than Kid Icarus not placing was the Double Dragon Neon nomination, is it actually good? It's been free on PS plus for ages but I hadn't bothered to download it, might check it out now.

I'd assume the wii u is on your lap most of the time.

Yea. I have a red 3ds sitting in a box behind me. It's my xmas gift to myself. I was going to wait for Animal Crossing, but i have been dying to play a non-waggle 3D mario game for years now. Hearing them say so many good things about it made me want to go buy it, so i did. :D

actually hold on let me check

i played...

22 hours of metroid prime hunters, including 8 hours of online and 287 headshot kills

yeah i think i can handle kid icarus

I think going into a game, movie, book, etc. with lowered or no expectations can really affect how much you like it. Add the three DLC packs on top of that and I can see getting a lot of enjoyment out of something like ME3.

For a personal example of outside factors affecting the enjoyment of a game, I played Walking Dead after being built up by all the Gaf hype and lost my save at the start of act 4 and had to continue on with random choices. That completely soured me on a game that would have probably been in my top few of the year had its big feature worked properly.

So yeah, I get Mass Effect topping Brad's list.

Or the other way this swings is that Hunters turned your wrist to dust and Kid Icarus will literally kill you.

Through trial and error though, some people swear by the stand, others say to throw it in the garbage. Some say go 100% claw, others say to use the pinky of your right hand to hook the 3DS.

If you are willing to play it in 2D to sacrifice keeping that 3D sweet spot, I bet you have even more options.

They probably will in later podcasts, though. Especially given the more objectionable parts of that game (per it getting the GOTY) are in Ep5.

I'm kind of worried about this. I'm out of town until after the new year and played the first four episodes on my home computer so my save is there. I guess I could replay them on my laptop so that I can finish 5 since I'm basically dying to see it, but damn.

Hey, wasn't Alex around recently? Wonder why he wasn't on these podcasts or even the bombcast. Doesn't he review the majority of games on the site anyways?

I have no idea, but is there any sort of save editor or similar shenanigans you can pull maybe to replicate your save data?

Get the Hori Grips from Amazon for the Vita. They're fantastic.

I was actually wondering if that might be the case.

You would think for this game especially -- with the problems they've had with save files corrupting or going missing -- that there would be.

Thx for the fucking spoiler. Jesus christ.

Edit: only place to talk about newer game spoilers without the tag is the spoiler thread. ALWAYS

Dude, I literally just started this game yesterday.
