Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

They definitely spoiled it on today's podcast.

You can do this, kaskade.

I just realized that in the description of the podcast it says best episode of The Walking Dead as a category, so it's not surprising. I'll probably end up playing it tonight as I should really just end it.

Sounds like a job for an anime editor.
By the way, did anyone else raise an eyebrow during yesterday's look at Brad's pick for GOTY when Jeff made a quip about the nosebleed moment? I might be wrong, but isn't that almost exclusively an anime/japanese thing?

Brad might be anime editor, but JEFF IS ANIME EDITOR IN CHIEF

I'm kinda new to the giant bomb guys. The first video was great, loved their take on The Office. That second video I didn't get at all though. Is hunkadunk a repeating theme, something fans of the show understand? It was like they were making the best of a really weak idea.

I love the new production values and whos, but the slotting in of the awards is awkward :(. Although I assume the production values were a pain in the ass for Top 10 and recap awards

Nosebleeding is a psychic thing too, but the quip about 'being excited' is related to some kind of japanese perversion social indicator

Oh so THAT explains the Kanji nosebleed thing in Persona 4

Yeah, but I think Patrick would insist they play 999 first and two visual novels in a row might be a little too much to stomach for a few of them

The payoff would be so fucking worth it though. I swear to god.

I'm pretty far into 999 right now and it is FUCKED UP. I'm expecting to get a bad ending this first time around but we'll see.

I just pulled a massive dick move on scumbag Lotus and creepy Clover in the hospital room

I wasn't really that surprised. It happens to Kanji in Persona 4 and Jeff has been replaying it on Vita recently.

They're just using pure nonsense drug allusions to parody 60 minutes style reporting.

About the Binary Domain twist:

Even if it wasn't fucking crazy and ridiculous, the interesting ethical dilemma that results from it happens far too late to see it affect your crew and the main character's cliche and forced love for Faye clouding his judgment was a cheap way create conflict among the rest of the crew. Like most of game, it didn't really capitalize on the interesting situation it created.

Yep, like the rest of the game it was dumb but the execution also fell flat on its face.

Finally got to hear the guys do a spoilerly discussion about the Walking Dead. I know this has been talked about to death but I don't know how anyone chose to not raid that station wagon at the end of episode 2. Only downer was Jeff not having finished it. Would like to hear how he felt about the final episode and station wagon man.

It feels weird to not celebrate such a game-changer about the examination of violent games and military shooters. Has the game been recognised anywhere?
You expect a game which examines violent video games to be celebrated by those who celebrate violent video games?

Really?

I didn't do it and hated that the game basically ignored that immediately after in the very same scene. It was the only one of the faux-choices that really rubbed me the wrong way especially after
that was the ace in their sleeve for the ending either way
.

Man I would watch the shit out of Workplace if it was a real show.

I dont know whats worse- A short Giant Bomb parody being massively funnier than the past few seasons of The Office, a show with a full team of writers and production crew behind it

Or a quickly written fanfiction of a short Giant Bomb parody being massively funnier than the past few seasons of The Office, a show with a full team of writers and production crew behind it

(Vinny fucking with the bathroom lights killed me)

Fantastic Day 2. I care more about the parody TV shows than the awards at this point. I wish I could watch them "commercial free." They are just that hilarious.

I know Vinny is busy behind the camera but I hope he pops up at least once this week during the recap videos

I'm hoping for some sci-fi parody where Dave is the engineer that everyone keeps yelling at. "Ship's broken, Dave." "Photon torpedoes offline, Dave." "Coffee maker is out of filters, Dave."

I chose to not raid the station wagon because the group and everyone is doomed to die fairly soon anyway so it was better for Clementine to live with her morals pure even if it shaved a couple months off her life.

If I somehow encountered that situation in real life, I would probably choose differently though.

Can anyone explain to me why Brad gets so irrationally angry when talking about people who think Dust is ugly as fuck?

Well it is kind of a stupid argument to skip over a potentially great game just because of the art style.

Saying that, I must admit that it is one of the reason I never bought it lol. It's not the main reason by any means (It's mostly because I only play games on pc nowadays) but considering that I would KILL for a Shadow Complex 2 then if Dust had a setting (not just the art style) more in line with my personal tastes I would have been more enclined to buy it.

I don't think so. Borderlands, Trine, Limbo, [Hotline Miami?] live and die based on their chosen art style. I think Dust is ugly as fuck regardless of the furry stigma. Greasy pastels don't appeal to me and it's why I skipped the game. Shit, I have to look at it the whole time!

Brad acts like not liking the art makes you some kind of bigot. It's bizarre.

I'm with Patrick in that they should've kept ZombieU in the 'biggest surprise' category instead of Far Cry 3. Far Cry is a franchise with some pedigree; the fact that some of them had low expectatinons due to media brievings is irrelevant. ZombieU on the other hand... I mean, just look at that name. Ubisoft launch title? Good luck with that.

I agree, ZombiU was a more compelling argument. Even if they saw bland story stuff for Far Cry 3, the "Skyrim with guns" thing was still a label you could envision not being completely terrible. Plus it was really impressive graphically, so at least there was that.

Agreed. I have differing opinions with Jeff sometimes...but his range of talents is pretty awesome.

I cant tell if he is just good at making music or REALLY good at making bad music.

Dude has a knack for whatever he does though.

This GOTY stuff makes me wish they would do more produced content instead of just live shows and iPhone videos. :(

Yeah. A super produced half hour show every month or so would be great.

I would say these videos are probably the most "professional" looking videos GB have ever produced.

The only idea I have would for them to basically copy the old 1up show though.

Just started into all this content, so I'm late on this, but Brad, Brad you da best man. I'm so happy with your #1.

Played ME3 in mostly the same way as you (waited for extended cut at least, haven't played Leviathan yet) and its definitely my GOTY as well. Your disclaimer at the end was a well-thought, succinct way to put everything surrounding the game itself into perspective.

Also man these recap videos are incredibly well done. I liked last year's for how batshit insane they were, but these are just on a different level in terms of production.

Yeah they're fantastic

I have to say Workplace was a little better in terms of cutting than Brad's investigation thingy, whatever they called it. It fits them better too I think
