Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

Okay, Jeff having Far Cry 3 at #1 I did NOT expect, and that totally fucks up my guess for their #1 pick. Vinny's still the wildcard, but I was thinking Jeff's #1 was going to be X-Com.

They're getting rid of the Northies ):

This year was a bit of a dud year for North performances but hopefully next year he has a few good parts and they do it again next year.

So does this mean they are introducing the Jennifer Hale award for best use of Jennifer Hale?

haha, I will never understand how Saints Row was awarded GOTY.

You mean wasn't? It's still Giant Bomb's 2011 GOTY in my heart, even if it's not my personal 2011 GOTY. That game was made for GB.

If XCOM doesn't get the site's overall GOTY it will be Saints Row: The Third all over again.

I remain ready for Walking Dead to take it and upset Jeff for two years in a row. These podcasts are not going well for him.

Jeff's list is so damn good, my taste in games line up with his almost exactly. He is also probably the only person in the media who will put Syndicate on his list, which automatically makes it the best list.

The editing on this is so fucking sweet. The award shows have gotten to the stage where I would rather just watch the things they make and kind of get bothered by the ads/awards

Also: chops brad

All this talk about From Ashes and Levi-a-thon made me go out, buy a points card, buy the DLC and tomorrow I'm gonna start up a complete ME1-ME3 run with my first FemShep.

Well I finally finished the last episode of The Walking Dead so I can safely listen and watch the content. Hopefully they can cheer me up.

hmmm... i'd think buggy games is a bigger thing this year over dlc that should be in the game.

besides ME3 and asura's wrath, what else does that apply to this year?

On the other hand, console games this year have all sorts of save bugs, framerate problems, etc.

Telltale not even acknowledging saves are fucked on pc for TWD is pretty disgusting.

They put the manual file copying workaround in the official FAQ. That's something, I guess. On the other hand I don't know that XCOM's issues are any more excusable. Game breaking bugs in a 20-30+ hour game that's best played in a mode where you can't load savegames, that's as bad as it gets.

I think this year is the first year in which giving Nolan North an award for a skillful performance is actually legitimate and not just a joke.

I'd agree with that.

What game run it last year? I wanna say Portal 2?

Now there is a game that used Nolan North to the best of his abilities. Didnt even know he was in the game until after the fact and was even more shocked that he voiced more then half of all the characters.

The Walking Dead's save files are fucked
Hitman Absolutions save files are fucked
XCOM was just fucked, although generally not the save files except in ironman mode
Quite a few other games

Don't forget Diablo 3

Error 37 and all that

It's a problem for sure but it has been for a long time and it goes without saying, don't release buggy games, even if it still happens. Shady DLC that should be part of the main game is a more insidious problem that is becoming more egregious as years go on and I'm glad they highlighted the problem.

It's a refreshing change of pace when most of the gaming press seem to push the "if you don't like it, don't buy it, you entitled brat" idea.

It's worst when shit takes forever (or don't) get fixed at all. I know games are complicated shit to tape together... but no excuses.

I know Apple has 'emergency patches' you can rush through cert, is there something similar for MS, Sony?

The first time Frog Fractions was brought up I thought "ha I remember that, it was pretty cool!" But now we're deep into the GOTY coverage and I'm just wondering if it really deserves this much attention over all the other games that came out this year. And I loved educational software back in the day - Math Blaster 4 life!

Just not seeing it personally. I enjoyed what I played when the thread popped up in October but I can't say I thought about it since until now

If you play games professionally for eight hours a day, particularly increasingly linear and iterative big budget games, a little game that comes out of nowhere that takes you by surprise every two minutes is probably going to stand out as really memorable.

You did go
underwater
right? Because GB simply has a love for any game that goes batshit insane. See: Far Cry 3, Saint's Row 3

I'm actually keeping-up with the GOTY podcasts and videos this year. It probably reflects badly on the amount of fun I am embracing this holiday season.

Pretty much this.

Patrick's Worth Reading section features like 4 or 5 small indie games with a twist/quirkyness every week.
