Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

So where are all the 3DS haters and nay-sayers? I remember my own take on the subject, but I don't recall weekly "3DS is doomed, oh lord, Nintendo is finished" threads or anything...
maybe I wasn't paying attention...

Maybe I should have used the words "willing to overlook" with regard to the 3DS' first year.

I wasn't on neogaf at the time of the 3ds launch, but I know there were plenty of people talking about how the 3ds/handhelds in general were doomed when it got off to a rocky start, and plenty of people saying the 3ds was dead on arrival when the vita was announced for $250.

Loved final fantasy tactics and looking for more... look no farther. Tactics Ogre is a nice little SRPG that is a lot like FFT.
1.1GB $20 on the NA PSN :P

For PSP and PSX games on the vita, is there a temp save (anywhere) option in the system? I'm thinking about picking up some oldies up digitally.

$40 even with the walmart gift cards for 32gb. Tax and shipping is a bitch. I wish they would have just had it in store but they only had 8gb.

What about ship to store?

Like emulation save states?
No.

It's like playing a PSX/PS2 game on your PS3.

Sorry if this had been discusses already, but if I buy a PS+ sub, can I backup the free games to my PC? I've never subscribed before and I'm a Vita only owner, and I'm testing this out by getting a 3mo to see if it's worth it. Oh and I have 16GB with ~7GB left.

Akihiko Yoshida's style is definitely one of my favorites. I haven't bought TO yet but I've been planning to get it because of his art and because the game is well received, but mostly because of his art :P. I guess I should play this FFT PS+ freebie first.

I uploaded uncharted and jet set to my PC just fine via content manager.

indeed FFT will be a good test to see if you would like tactics ogre... there are a number of differences between them but they feel a lot alike

Ahhhh, my ocd of not missing things in an RPG is really getting to me in persona 4. Lol. Do I spend time with Youske, or practice with the team, or jump into the tv!? and now it wants me to apply for a job so that will eat up time lol.

Fantastic game, tremendous production values. The UI designer(s) deserve special praise. I have only scratched the surface of this game and it is digging its hooks in me already. Buy it people!

Well you can - but it's kind of pointless since you can download them any time from your download history

well it doesn't take up bandwidth if you transfer it to your pc, plus you can just get your save back when you transfer it instead of having to find your save on the cloud.

Alright thanks for the input. And retrieving a backup is faster than redownloading for me.
I forgot about that... mostly because the speeds are about equal for me... such slow transfer speeds on the vita, would be my biggest complaint :/
Man no EU sales?
Saw the decent sale on US PSN expecting some of it to come over.

Bleh back to holidays.
you had sales in early decemember for the holidays... you know the 12 days of christmas, plus a few other things.
At least you get Mortal Kombat for Free and have Crash on your PSN.

NA still has one last free vita game coming this month, it totally could be MK :P
and Crash is on the PSN just not for the vita

Just got the 100 wins trophy for MK. I think I'm done with online for a while. Way too many rage quitters whenever you do a fatality, an x-ray, or basically anything towards actually winning the match. It's a lot more prevalent on the Vita because of how easy it is to quit even more so than the console version. In the few UMvC3 and PS All-Stars matches I had this was never a problem. Anybody with other Vita fighters like Blazblue and SFxT have an idea of the online experience for those?

My UMvC3 experience was miserable. For some reason, the game didn't register victories or losses until a few seconds after, so tons of people would rage-"quit" after the match was already over.

I found that I could reliably get a match in MK but rage quitters were the norm. I could barely find a match in UMvC3 but I haven't had a rage quitter yet (probably because of X-Factor and the ease of comebacks in Marvel compared to other fighters). I don't really care about my Vita leaderboard stats but that still sucks about the laggy record-keeping.

That 12 days of Christmas showed zero Vita love it was all PS3 games. We'll be getting our Vita discounts in the EU on the next PSN update in January as SCEE failed to deliver them in time for the holidays so we've been informed by the blog admins.

There was plenty of Nintendoom after the 3DS launch, lol

Has Lunar Silver Star Harmony PSP version ever been on sale on the US PSN store?

Lowest it has been was in the $15-$20 range IIRC.

Thanks for the replies on NLKS. Realised I hardly ever put the Lovefilm subscription I'm paying for to use, so I think I'll rent it from there - by then if I like it it'll probably either be around the £20 price point, or on PS+.

It's already £21.85 on shopto

dont bury my question please. If a not-very-dark gray (i'd say it's about 70% black... well, the color of the after-suspension screen with the gray sticker [the upper-left part]) shows the mura effect in a well-lit room, should I return the vita?
Ask for a replacement, that should not be happening.

My son is pestering me for a PSP, but prices seem high right now.

If I were to pick up another Vita, could he share my digital content if I set his Vita up with my account? I guess that would stop up being able to play against each other, unless we used the ad-hoc mode.

There is no way I could afford to get him all the games I have on his own account (although I was pretty surprised to see he gets access to my PS+ content on the PS3 via his own account), so him getting one would depend entirely on how I can register the content on a second unit.

I'm 99% sure you can have 2 vitas on the same account. Doubt you'd be able to be online at the same time on both tho.

I'd actually be willing to pay good money to have 2 accounts on 1 vita like the PS3. If Sony don't want to patch it for free please concider like 10€ fee for activating a secondary account or something. I'm that desperate ;_;. Vita would probably be my favourite hardware of all time if I could have my EU and US accounts on it.

Will have to keep it to ad-hoc then. Ideally don't want him to be able to go online willy nilly, so would want to limit that.

Won't be happening for a couple of months yet, so plenty of time to consider my options. Having a PSP again isn't exactly a complere downer, at least I could play Crisis Core again.

If you are in the EU you could always go with the cheap PSP street.

You should be able to have 2 vitas on one account, but if you own a psp and that is tied to your account it will be an issue.

Currently you get 2 home consoles and two handhelds that can be active on a single account. Products that were bought before like november 2011 or was it 2010... whenever they changed it from 5 ps3 to 2 should work on more than 2 systems in general still, but I have no first hand experiance with that.

Toto, check Super Crate Box before Wario64 reads your post about PSM. It's really fun and addictive. Now! :)

Got TO during the summer sale on PSN, still not started yet. How long is it?

Guys I have done a quick 180 on Need for Speed Most Wanted.

I was shitting on the game design however, I have put in some time just before of the awesome technology. I drive around and I am just puzzled how powerful this system is.

I love my Vita.

I really want games like NFS:MW, P4:G, and LBP but I really gotta clear some of these PS+ games first.

Also need to stop playing ToM: Blitz!!!

Mornin' Gaf. The christmas extravaganza finally ended, so I can check this thread again. Unfortunately, I left my Vita at my grandmothers...

Sorry to anyone waiting on a chess move from me!

Thats why its probably ranked low in my priority list. :p I have little time and a 100 hour game without any rewards like trophies is offputting. :s

I've been meaning to ask someone and this thread is friendly enough to do it... Why do trophies matter? In general I just assume any time someone mentions trophies or achievements and not playing a game because they lack them they are joking, but I know deep down this isn't the case. I just can't comprehend why an add on feature that is only good to boost a ranking that is for bragging rights would effect what game you would play. I mean surely you wouldn't play a clearly inferior game just because it has trophies compared to a game that is clearly superior that doesn't right? Or do video game achievements really matter that much to some people?

I mean I could understand a trophy obsession if sony gave a reward for getting stuff (1 penny for a bronze, 2 cents for a silver, 5 cents for a gold, 10 cents for a plat to your psn account for example) but when it's for bragging rights I just don't get it :/ I can't remotely follow the mindset of someone grinding out a plat trophy for 100 plus hours after they finish the game if they don't enjoy the grind.

Yes, they do.

I dont think most people care about the overall "ranking" boost. I still do think that there are two different aspects to it, though.

1. Its just a way to get the satisfaction of being completely done with a game. You might not care about trophy levels that much, but some people want to completely finish a game before throwing it off their memory cards, and trophies are a hurdle to get to that "finished"-feeling. This is the bad aspect, since it gets people to play games they might not even like anymore.

2. Some people like trophy hunting because it adds another element to the gameplay. Some games have actually interesting trophies which ADD to the value of the game since it gives you an incentive to replay levels in a way you didnt do before (Defeat Level X with only weapon Y) or hunt for easter eggs. I can totally understand people preferring games with trophies over those that dont have them in that case. I mean think about it this way: Games can have 3 difficulty settings, but with proper trophies, they might have another layer of difficulty/challenge for extra tasks to do in the game. Its just like more challenges. This is a positive aspect, since it gives more incentives to replay a game people like.

For some its also probably a combination of the two. And there are still some people who probably just like to collect platinums to feel good about collecting something rare. Thats a bit related to the first/"bad" kind of trophy aspect, I'd say.

Meh, for me trophies aren't really a measure of my e-penis. While I do like getting a platinum, I mostly use them as a kind of measurement of how well I've mastered games. If it's a game I really, really like, then I usually want to 100% it (this was true even before trophies, there just usually wasn't anything that told me how much I had completed a game). I kind of use the trophies for that purpose. Once I've platinumed a game, I know I've focused enough on that one game and it's perhaps time to move on to the next one.

That said, I HAVE grinded for some trophies and I haven't always enjoyed it that much (the game itself might've been enjoyable, the grinding not so much). The last game I've been doing this in is Uncharted Golden Abyss, which has all those stupid "Kill 70 enemies with this or that weapon" & stupid-ass bounties. I had fun searching for the treasures and after that I noticed I'm not too far from a Platinum so why not get an extra mile of the game and go for it. Of course this was prior to knowing how shitty the bounty system is...

Yeah pretty much how I see it. If I like a game enough to play it to completion, then I consider the trophies part of that "completion". Even if some of them are really asinine or dull, I'll do it anyway just like I'd slog through bad parts of a great game. But I won't play a game because of trophies, and I certainly won't go out of my way to get trophies if I don't like the game enough to do so.

Just finished Gravity Rush (I posted a few impressions on the OT) as my first ever Vita game. Really impressed at how you can mix and match motion control, touch controls, traditional controls in such an AMAZING experience. Vita could really the definitive gaming machine, at least on paper.

For some reason I get the impression that the game was treated with much less respect than it would have if it was released on another platform tbh. I mean, it's an almost perfect game, I can really find very few flaws with it. Sigh.

Agree 110%

Never understood people obsession with achievements.

I use to play WoW hardcore, and even then I didnt care.

I mean if it was like my favorite game of all time and I wanted to do a 100% while also enjoying myself then sure.
