it's crude and myopic to dismiss a game or it's developer based on whether or not you fit the target audience. pretty sure the target audience for naruto games likes most of the naruto games.

additionally, i was pointing out the pointless nature of defending jeff and patrick's dismissiveness on the grounds of "they make naruto games" when the same studio who made jeff's GOTY has also "made a naruto game".

No it hasn't. It's just shifted to platforms you guys pay less attention to, and in directions that don't include the sort of online-centric stuff we like here in the US of A.

Please note that this is not an accusation of "bias." All I'm saying is that the Japanese market (and therefore the japanese dev industry) has shifted to favor handhelds in the same way that the US market has shifted to favor HD, online-enabled consoles.
 
Technical issues prevented me from getting very far in The Walking Dead; neither the aesthetic nor the gameplay really grabbed me in Hotline: Miami; and FTL was pretty good for a few hours but didn't stick with me beyond that.

It's been a year of gaming frugally for old man Rorie. I've been working with a pretty strict gaming budget this year, preferring to buy games that have been steeply discounted on Steam rather than pick them up at full price.

I forget what it must be like to be a teenager trying to buy games. No wonder free/F2P games on iOS are so popular.

Ubisoft montreal, and I have worked there, is composed of about two thousands employees. It's a single studio composed of several teams all working on different projects. It's not a single entity.

It doesn't help that most of the bigger games are a collaboration between several studios worldwide.

see my post above. my intent was more about highlighting the futility of basing your judgment of a game/developer on something like "they make/made naruto games".

The Japanese "slump" definitely feels like a combination of the "big" (in the West) Japanese dev's HD offerings being... less exemplary than previous generations; their refocusing on smaller games and handhelds, where their true gems have moved; and (as Jeff has pointed out in the past) that this generation saw the cream of the Western development crop (AAA PC developers) suddenly start to truly support consoles in force, bringing in new ideas and technology.
 
Beat cop Ryan Davis works really well, love it. Also how great is it that Brad got the handlebar moustache just for this thing.

Even with the best looking game category, still not even a mention of Dyad on the podcast! This is some shit. Also no mention of Botanicula yet. I hope both of those games don't get forgotten.

Oh and i hope they call profound bullshit on AC3 for the "most disappointing" category, though ME3 will most likely win that one because the guys were all invested in that series.

Wait, so all people with jobs should readily be able to buy all games they have any interest in each year?! Lol, real people have other expenses to take care of whhen you have a normal balanced life ya know, gaming is not of highest concern when managing your budget.

That's not at all what I was implying.

It's more than for a grown man with a (hopefully a permanent soon) job, who works in the game industry no less, can't justify playing full price for games.

I think that's less a comment on the ubiquity of steam sales, and more a sign that the price/demand curve for $60 games is completely broken.
