Has anyone wrote down all of the GB crew's GOTY lists?
A fear of what? I guess if you're afraid of budget PS2 games and ragdolls in suits then it's terrifying, and I can't judge your tastes. Me, I'm waiting for a Flash game that exposes the pure terror of Mr. T chasing you, attempting to eat your balls. I'll make millions in YouTube ads once people see my pale face shrieking at a webcam every time a far off "foo'" sounds in the distance.
You could argue the same for Frog Fractions. It's a 45 minute 'heh' Flash game.I like Patrick, and I respect his opinions, but you have to wonder what drugs he was on putting Slender anywhere near a GOTY list.
It's like we're going in circles.

Where is the Vinny love fest?
Vinny love is a transcendent constant, existing in a dimension above the continuum.Where is the Vinny love fest?

I agree, but saying it doesn't belong in discussion or a personal list doesn't make any sense to me, especially when we have things like Frog Fractions, QWOP/CLOP, and so forth being part of the mix.I'm allowed to criticize his opinion as openly as he's allowed to share it.
I'm not trying to censor his freedom of opinion, no need to white knight for him.
TOTALLY didn't know that, bro. Thanks for the pro tip.
Honestly, I appreciated that. Because this is the only time of the year that people can actually reflect on games without being stupidly vague about them.I know that spoilers were completely on the table for these podcasts, but is it necessary to have Patrick completely synopsize plots for games that were literally out of contention. I understand the need to talk about spoilers to hash out an argument. But that seemed a little unnecessary.

Everyone on the GB staff is hunking.I figured you didn't, since you seemed to think he was on some sort of chemical substance. You're the one that acted as though it was was baffling, not me.
Darkness, lonelyness, knowing that you will be scared. Are you exchanged with a different person? I remember you being pretty reasonable when it comes to understanding and respecting other persons likings and dislikings. Guess I was wrong.
Is there any reason to watch the recap videos if I've already listened to the podcasts on iTunes?
The association between Slender and YouTube is a completely different subject, but I'll agree with you on that.I just have a raging disdain for Slender Man after I saw the whole interesting mythos run into the ground by unfunny jerks years before the game Slender came out, and how the whole game seemed tailor made for the sort of hacks who now define "Let's Play" by bungling around the horror game du jour while screaming wacky "random" obscenities at a screen.
You're really missing out if you don't! They went all out on the framing for everything this year. : )Is there any reason to watch the recap videos if I've already listened to the podcasts on iTunes?

I can see that, but shoving Patricks pick into that drawer is the wrong thing to do because we know his reasons better.I just have a raging disdain for Slender Man after I saw the whole interesting mythos run into the ground by unfunny jerks years before the game Slender came out, and how the whole game seemed tailor made for the sort of hacks who now define "Let's Play" by bungling around the horror game du jour while screaming wacky "random" obscenities at a screen.

Journey is overrated. Smart man.Vinny losin some serious points with his Journey hate/ME3 love..
How is it not baffling? It's baffling in the same way if Patrick put Big Rigs in his top 10. Slender shouldn't be near anyones 2012 list.
You'd be missing the best part of their GOTY coverage. Is there any reason to watch the recap videos if I've already listened to the podcasts on iTunes?
See that infinity symbol? That's GAFs love for Vinny.
But then who is leaving the notes for you to find!?I'm also wondering how many of you have been in a real forest where there's no one around for a hundred miles.
Most of what I've read stems from people saying it isn't enough of a game in the mechanics department, the multiplayer anonymity gets more praise than it deserves, and it tries too hard to be artsy.Seriously, what is there to hate?
He was born for the part.Very good world building but still a stupid, ironic clichè. Not to mention Vinny absolutely killed the role.
Why that's easy, it's...But then who is leaving the notes for you to find!?

That is a really good description for x-com.I usually have a pretty difficult time connecting with the taste and opinions of the Giant Bomb staff and primarily enjoy their stuff for the entertainment value, but Brad saying that Mass Effect 3 is better than Gears on a mechanical level is so unimaginable misinformed.
These game of the year lists are built inside this small Giant Bomb bubble, primarily out of short and easily consumable linear experiences that are eaten up by people who work at video game websites because they feel the need to play as many different games as possible.
I'm not saying that every game that shows up on the lists is like that. But going into every list and knowing I am probably going to see The Walking Dead, Fez, Journey, FTL, and Mark of the Ninja because they are the bite sized games that got passed around the office is pretty boring. The discussions that take place for these awards rarely create meaningful back and forth. Instead these awards are consistently slotted with the same contestants and often end with the same small selection rising to the top each time because most of the staff played those games. There are even situations where it feels like the category was created specifically to shower one game with praise, and it is really an awkward experience to hear the cast fumble around pushing the winner they always had in mind to the finish line. That is a really good description for x-com.
It's funny because that's one of the aspects that initially drew me to it. I felt like it was such a great interpretation of the comic's style.I should have given Walking Dead a chance but I just can't get past the hideous art style.

The title should be "Paul Barnett rambles for 15 minutes".
Please write a script next time or something.

But sure, let's pat them on the back for playing the most approachable and popular strategy game of the year.
