Who in the fuck cares about an actor's TV work? If Hollywood thought he was leading male worthy he would be in more films. He has the look but none of the chops.

How can Bryan Cranston be too old for lead roles? Are you kidding me? He was doing pretty great in that Total Recall shitty remake.

Are you trolling us all?

Bro I love Bryan Cranston but let's be real here. He isn't going to be getting leading roles because of his age. Unless the role is that of an older male supporting character. Tarantino said it best "Hollywood is an young man's game."

You just keep saying things that are blatantly wrong. Since when does someone's size keep them out of leading roles? Since when is being good at acting the requirement for getting a leading role in a movie?

Name a Hollywood production that stars a big person that isn't a comedy.

Yeah, because all of the male leads in Hollywood have both.

Also why would you not care about actors their TV work? I dont get what you're trying to say. Dont you watch shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking bad or whatever?

I really dont understand this logic. Do you really want me to sum up some movies with "old" men as the lead? WHat about Clint Eastwood? And Bruce Willis?

What do you understand under "Hollywood leads" anyway?

Actors? Directors? Writers? Producers? The audience? You realize more people watch television than watch movies, right? Sure you do. The paradigm that states "TV Actors and Film actors can't/don't crossover" is dead, and has been for about 10-20 years. In fact, I'm curious as to how you came to that conclusion in the first place, considering you've been consuming media all throughout that decade+ time period.

Hollywood isn't a monolithic hive-mind. Also, "Hollywood" produces a whole lot of TV shows. Someone in "Hollywood" thought he was enough of a leading man to cast him as the centerpiece of one of the most well regarded TV shows in the last 10 years.

Well a lot of people watched Avengers doesn't mean people will actually care for it.

Here is a story about someone in Hollywood. It's still very much a system that has levels.

So me, one of my instructors (whom is a producer for some big films), and a famous producer of one the highest rated shows on TV were talking before he gave a speech. He straight up told me that he wanted to do movies but he didn't have enough pull in the "system". He's just considered a TV producer. Think about that for a second. His show is one of the best on TV but even he hasn't earned the trust to get something funded.

That has less to do with the quality of his work and more to do with who he knows. Just like basically every other field of employment in this country.

Your premise is still pretty fundamentally fucking broken.

You just invalidated your own point. Being successful as a leading man doesn't depend on acting abilities, in so much as it depends on marketability.

Same with your producer friend, he might be a great TV producer, and he could be a great movie producer, but they won't give him the chance, because they see him as a TV producer, and unproven in the feature world.

Are you fucking me?

Nope, I've seen him outside of Mad Men. He is fucking horrible in the town, bridemaids, and his few mins in Sucker Punch give QT a run for his money on the horrible actor scale.

He doesn't have any of that though.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

Size does not determine talent. This is major point being made here. You're saying that a big actor could not get a leading man role because he's too fat. I'm not falling into this trap, though. Comedies are just as important to look at as any other genre. Some of the best acting I've ever seen came from big people in comedies. Not every comedy starring a big person is about falling down. And some of the best character actors in Hollywood history were big. Size does not determine talent in a large movie. Many actors were good then and now simply by playing themselves. You watch the movies they star in to see them playing themselves. Gandolfini is one of these actors. He doesn't play the same character, but as an actor he fits a certain character type and people love to watch him play to that type. Sydney Greenstreet was another one. John Goodman is an actor who gets role after role in spite of his size, and he's always good. Orson Welles reinvented cinema in fat suits and aging makeup. Wayne Knight made it from television's Seinfeld into big budget productions like Jurassic Park and Space Jam. And please don't use the quality of the movie as a scapegoat to slide your way out of this. Don't insult my intelligence. Every gangster picture requires large actors in significant roles. Rod Steiger could be unrecognizable between pictures. I challenge you to recognize him between Duck, You Sucker, In The Heat of the Night, and Mars Attacks without me telling you he's in them. That's talent. John Candy was one of the most bankable, likable big actors in Hollywood history. Jonah Hill can go from complete shit like Night at the Museum 2 to fitting right in alongside Brad Pitt in Moneyball. In spite of his age and size, Hollywood ROYALTY Mickey Rooney still gets cast in big movies like A Night At The Museum.

Let's look at some of Gandolfini's filmography.

True Romance, written by Quentin Tarantino
The Man Who Wasn't There, written and directed by the Coen Brothers
Crimson Tide, directed by Tony Scott
Fallen
Get Shorty
The Mexican, directed by Gore Verbinski
The Last Castle
8MM, directed by Joel Schumacher (it's giving you ammo, but I'm counting on you not to use nitpicking to blow this entire thing off- don't disappoint me)
Romance and Cigarettes, directed by John Turturro
All the King's Men, directed by Steven Zaillian
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, again directed by Tony Scott
Where the Wild Things Are
Killing Them Softly, which you saw
Zero Dark Thirty
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

With an eight year television show in between, I wouldn't call this an unsuccessful career. Not being the lead doesn't mean you aren't talented, and Gandolfini obviously attracted some pretty good names there. He wins for being in True Romance alone.

Go start another thread with that topic.

Back to what matters: I just got this as a late Christmas gift from a close friend.

It's.. not good.

It's Straczynski, so it's not entirely unexpected. And knowing it's Straczynski helps deflate some of the disappointment. But it's still disappointing. For me, at least.

Read Earth One: Vol. 2 before hitting the hay last night.

I'm a fan of JMS. Not a big fan, but an appreciative one. His versions of Superman (the Grounded & Earth One variations) never seem to be air-tight, but he always brings interesting ideas to the table and they usually enlighten the character a good amount. He'll never likely dethrone my core idea of who Superman is after so many books defined that long ago (namely Birthright, Superman For All Seasons, and Action Comics 775), but there were still some great moments in Earth One Vol. 2 I could really get behind. I think Vol 1 was the superior story in terms of storytelling and delivery, but the story behind Clark's cat and finally seeing this Superman's phobia/yearning to use his fullest power will stick with me. The curve ball with his addict neighbor seemed a bit too defeatist, but I'm still mulling it over.

It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I give it a B-. Maybe I just have a soft spot for JMS after he gave me this:

You should punch that friend in the face for buying shitty gifts.

He easily has better taste than you, so no matter . You should lighten up ( :

Also yesterday marked the first time the whole movie was screened with the score complete. Now 5 more weeks of orchestra recording and more mixing.

Nice photo. I love seeing superhero movies that actually take the time look nice instead of the shit marvel does with their movies.

I'm really going to lose sleep over your posts. I really am. I also don't think anyone in this thread has taken you seriously in a while, so it's cute you're going for that angle of insult.

Again, lighten up. You'll live a happier existence ( :

Don't hate because I don't enjoy shit shoved down my mouth.

Like Jon Hamm, The Avengers Movie, all of Peter Jackson's filmography, and Superman: Earth One. Yeah, that's some real shit across the board there. Not a lick of decency amongst that flock. And it's all clearly being forced upon you. Down your throat, even. You poor thing.

You're also running out of self-righteousisms:

(12-28-2012) Sorry for having taste and not loving all the shit shoved down my throat.

even I can't agree with you on this one.

Capt you've lost it

You're dead to me

What have you been snorting?

No cannot respect that opinion. Carry on.

Can you just get lost already? Or at least class up a little bit?

I did drop it but he still had to say some shit after it was all over with and I just saw it now.

You are consistently writing insults with the grammar of a seven year old and trying to have the last word by telling everyone you have better taste than them.

Countless people in this thread are asking you to knock it off, so try and grow up.

Okay I'll stop. Sorry to offend you for having an opinion about a popcorn flick and a shitty comic. Hopefully one day you'll stop worrying about the grammar of a person on the internet and crawl out of your Pepsi and Cheetos induced coma and get a life. Until then your beta ass can go jerk-off to horribly written comics.

wow. I don't know how old you are in reality but you come across as a twelve year old.

Please read this out loud to yourself. You sound ridiculous.

Everyone has opinions. There are better ways to convey them.

Yes we are. It's a video game forum.

Bro, I have, more than once conveyed my opinion of everything I have talked about here. Anyways, let's drop it and talk about how the cinematography in the trailers looks better than any superhero to date.
