I have both Modnation an Sonic and goodness is there a big difference in quality between them.
No it is just a more faithful remake. FF IV on DS and iOS are 3D but it doesn't work well in my opinion.
FF IV on PSP is also the most complete edition as it includes the interim and after years too. It's a brilliant update, not that I've played SNES FF IV before but I've played other top down games from the era.
Yeah that's what I expect.
What happened to the Monster Hunter updated PSP game for the two sticks? Is it Japan exclusive?
Just different graphical styles that depends on taste. A lot of people think FF4C's redone art looks gorgeous on the Vita screen, but I like the PSX style look of the iOS/DS version.
Gameplay wise FF4 Complete offers way much more.
We can do that. It's a feature that all PSP games have but it was originally hyped with Monster Hunter.
Oh yes it was the Monster Hunter that we don't have that they showed but it wasn't doing anything that can't be done on the ones we have. It wasn't an updated game just a Vita feature.

Ah, ok, thank you both for clarifying. I've yet to play it and was considering taking the dive soon. It's already difficult enough with all the FF entries, let alone considering what edition of each game to get. (i've only played XIII)
And, thanks for the Rayman screens earlier. I swear this is the friendliest thread on gaf.

This may be the first time I have seen someone say this..
I dig both versions for different reasons. The augments were interesting in the DS version, but ultimately, 2D presentation along with all that content you stated gives the PSP edition the edge.
IV was the first that I completed after playing 15 hours or so of XIII. I'd highly recommend the PSP complete edition as both the version to get but also the Final Fantasy to get you into the series.

Youtube has a couple videos of a guy playing a couple missions. It looks exactly like EDF but on vita, really best description. Of course if you never played an EDF that wont help.
Assume it includes the EDF framerate then? lol

I tried to play some Technika again tonight...I just don't like the touch controls. Ugh. I wish I could figure something out. Hatsune Miku, though...Still the best music game in Vita.

Nice, will add you if you got any space left. Hopefully Kerrak does too. I don't mind losing, as I am wanting to improve eventually.
Did you guys read the post by Evilore on the main gaming discussion page? Hope they aren't planning on closing this thread. We don't even really use this thread for news (which is why hopefully it will stay), but it's amazing to have just for discussing existing and new games/features.

Yeah the DS FFIV is one of the biggest travesties of modern gaming.

I'm getting quite annoyed with them trying to break up the communities. This thread is basically the previous Vita OTs in disguise and it's ridiculous that we couldn't just have them moved to the community section in the first place.
The threads provide a hub for people to talk about the things they like be it Vita in this thread, Wii U or whatever. That doesn't stop new newsworthy threads being made at all and, in the case of this thread in particular, it gives us a place to talk about the Vita without all the bullshit that pops up in the new Vita threads.
Here we can just get on with talking about the system we love and without that I bet that every new 'news' thread would just devolve into "Vita has no games", "Here's a list of Vita games", "Well it sucks anyway" and no real discussions will take place.
All the early FFs look great on the Vita indeed. At some point I'll be playing 1-9 this year. After P4G maybe~

Don't see why it would. Like you said we don't post news in here, at least without making new threads too and there needs to be a thread to talk about the games.

Vita Gaf seems to be pretty niche in the first place, I don't think Nirolak (especially Kagari) will term this thread given that...well, there isn't a whole lot terribly interesting going on with the Vita that doesn't impact directly the "normals" of this thread.
I would. No one goes to the community section as evidence of most game's OTs being dead.
My Hitman lttp thread that I posted a few days ago has more posts in it than the OT does in the last month. If they don't want platform threads where niche communities build then moving it to community would be the worst idea because then ONLY the regulars would go to it. As it is now we get new people posting every day or two.
I only ask because they did close the official Vita discussion thread a couple of months back, and this is very similar (with many of the same members of VitaGAF).

For me it was a breath of fresh air for a game that was becoming rather stale. The bosses involved a great amount of strategy to take down and there were some interesting gameplay additions as well. Augments were quite awesome once you got the system down. Being able to use Yang's kick for Cecil, teaching Kain bard spells, etc. And once you get to the moon you are forced to think quickly or die. I was forced into using practically every buff and debuff to survive. Playing the complete PSP version felt like a step backward to me.
Seeing how nice FF III looks on the Vita screen I hope we get a port of the DS/ios version some day. Love the 3D renditions of the FF IV characters, monsters and world.

So I finally got my hands on a Vita (crazy surprise Christmas present). I feel really stupid but it has taken me this long to figure out that some games don't download directly to the thing, you have to put them on the PS3 first.
So... that said I had yet to really find the "game" I want to spend my time playing. That of course was until I figured this out. Legend of Dragoon is now draining the batteries on this thing nightly. I quite honestly think this is the best system for some of my old favorite games (I have all 3 Resident Evils, Dino Crisis and what not). Putting in a few hours in between writing papers for grad school and what not is just way too much fun. Now if only some SSX games got released (even the one for PSP), I would be 100% content.

Well I mean we really don't post news exclusively here (doesn't help that we haven't really had any news for a while). But it is a megathread so that leaves it at a risk.
That came up when the official Vita thread closed. They said that iOS has WAY too many games so it kind of needs a megathread instead of thousands of little official threads.
Do find it strange considering this is much the same thread.
Playing devil's advocate but I think there is value in not having megathreads. They can get overly insular and without intention diverge from what they originally set out to achieve. A succession of smaller threads perhaps makes the Vita community more transparent than one passionate niche bouncing off each other.
However GAF being GAF, smaller threads would turn into depressingly cliche 'no games' debates, and surely that has even less value.
Ironically that's exactly what's going on now lol. We should probably go back to talking about games.

Did you give up on Persona 4 yet?
Nope I put an hour into it today and probably will play a little more before I go to bed. How can I do dungeon stuff without risk of running into the story stuff? I haven't been back to the dungeon world since the game gave me freedom to do what I want. I want to do a little grinding to get more stuff down but I don't want to accidentally advance yet.
