Mysterious rustling and banging in my chimney

You can see the squirrel's head in the pic just barely where the flash reflects off his eyes
So the saga continues, trying to get the animal out now but my chimney is apparently clogged up with sticks and leaves. Been jabbing a stick up into the flue to clear the blockage. Whatever is in there, I can hear it purring or something, problem is, the opening in the chimney is really small so I don't know how the hell the animal is gonna crawl out :/
Now I've hit what appears to be a dead bird in there, damn thing won't budge :l
Edit - dead squirrel was blocking the entrance :/

If that was TemplaerDude's chimney he'd be homeless now. Fortunately for him he can substract and add double digit numbers.

Yeah he sounds pretty agitated. Trying to shake the damper back and forth to dislodge him but he's clutching on there pretty good.
Put some gloves on reach up and grab him.

The man of the hour. Finally came down. I set out some food for him. He's kinda just chilling in the corner now. I'll try to think of some way to get him out of there later after he's had something to eat

Get him some water too if he's been in there awhile. Then climb up on the roof and lay a screen over the chimney opening and let him go. Good job!

He's kinda just chilling in the corner. And yeah I set out some tilamook cheese, bread and a little glass full of water. Think I'm gonna go take a shower, all those leaves and debris and dead squirrel bits are pretty gross now that I think about it :/

I dunno might have something to do with that. Squirrel went for the bread. Cheese is still there. He's kinda just sitting there in the corner the last time I was downstairs. I'll let him go in the morning.

Maybe call animal control rather than try and get him out yourself? I've seen what squirrels can do to an attic, I can't imagine what they'd do to an actual house.
