Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

I still can't get hyped for this movie. No matter how they dress it up or make it grimdark its still the same fucking story we've had over and over again. Maybe if there is a sequel I'll see that at the theater, this will just be a netflix rental if that.

Thanks for the live journal update.

Still want to know wtf this grim/dark shit is coming from :\ Same fucking story?

I think his death should be done in a way to show that he can't save everyone.

Probably dies of natural causes and Clark realize that even with all his power he still can't save everyone. It will be what gets him to go out on his own and live with Humans. Because everyone likes to go fishing when their dad dies.

People just like to make a big stink about the film taking itself seriously. If it's not wise-cracking and fun like Marvel's films, it's automatically trying to be "dark" and "edgy". It's a miss-use of a word that some people on GAF like to throw around, like "hipster" and "bomba".

This, this, this.

It looks too dark and I don't think it works with Superman. The character is meant to be a contrast from the darkness of Batman and Gotham City. They still could of told a good story with bright colours. Not sure I am feeling it but then again I find Superman the most boring superhero so I may not be the target audience. Looking forward to Wolverine though, need to wash my eyes after that god awful origin film.

since Superman was created first, pretty damn sure he wasn't created to be anyone's contrast. also, you think you're not the target audience yet are going to go see another superhero movie? about another "grimdark" dude bro?

Not dark, maybe a bit cynical, but I'm sure the movie just wears that as a mask. It's probably nice and "aw shucks" Kent optimism and goodness at its core. A brooding Superman is not a very fun one. At that point he's just a stubborn, incorrigible old man. It's like a grumpy Captain America, without all the patriotism.

where do you see cynicism??? WHERE!??! if anything int eh trailer Superman says "my father thought the world wasn't ready for someone like me, what do you think?" that sounds pretty damn optimistic as a character to me. come on people! a little more critical thinking!

Sounds like the thesis for Man of Steel to me.

Well, I'll tell you something: that's what I hoped Superman Returns was about. When Singer first said that he wanted to make a movie about Superman returning to a world that doesn't welcome him back, I was very excited. It had a really great potential.

When he said he was going to use the Williams theme, I thought that was the right choice, Williams' Superman theme is one of the greatest of all time and it screams "Superman".

But then, what did we get? A boring Superman II sequel, with a worse and younger cast... not an uplifiting movie that goes nowhere... and about that idea of the world not welcoming Superman? Scratch that, that wasn't even touched... hell, everyone welcomed Superman with open arms...

It was so frustrating, and I was so eagerly expecting SR...

I hope this time they make a great Superman movie, and this one looks better than Superman Returns, but I'm taking a very "wait-and-see" approach with it. I've been through this before.

What's the explanation for Superman's dorky costume in this movie?

Dorky in your opinion, but a shit ton better than Superman Returns god awful suit.

It's actually one of the best looking suits/ redesigns Ive seen. Also it's alien in nature in this film.

Was it bring your son to work day?

Here's Man of Steel Clark going to work at the Daily Planet.

Fucking good genes, how do they work?

The cape and S-shield alone are as stoic and symbolic as it gets in the Man of Steel suit. It looks exceptionally cool.

Loved it. I thought it did a great job of making superman "real" It was a pretty tight script too with not much downtime. Its clearly influenced by more recent superman books like Birthright.

Only have one real problem with the script
Pa Kent still dies. Its one of the things I like about newer origin stories for Superman. I think Pa Kent is a great character to explore and I don't feel you need him to die to have Clark make the decision to become Superman.

Sounds great
In the comics is Pa Kent's death of natural causes ?

I don't get the criticism of the suit it's a great re-imagination of the classic suit with a alien filter through it. Haven't really seen in full motion to make a full judgement.

Oh yeah forgot about Faora.

Possibly more than her. Not gonna say why I'm thinking this and I have not read the script/rumors cause I don't want to be spoiled. My thinking is coming just from the trailer itself.

I think it's safe to say Superman will have his work cut out for him in Man of Steel. Oil refinery fires, tornados, school bus accidents, General Zod and Faora... whatever that machine is we see in the trailer. Kent's got his hands full.

I'm surprised this didn't get in any attention has it been debunked ?

There are a bunch of scenes from the trailer not mentioned anywhere in that synopsis. I suppose it's possible that was based off of an earlier draft of the screenplay, but there's no mention whatsoever of
anything involving young Clark growing up in Smallville discovering his ablities, or Superman being taken into custody by the US military - both of which were seen in the trailers.
Those seem like pretty important events to just be glossed over.

I'm going to call BS.

wonder if they'll ever have doomsday for superman..

sort of like batman with bane lol

Hopefully not. Doomsday is pretty lame. Just a big dumb guy with bony growths who punches people real hard. The concept, if not always the execution, of Bane is far stronger.

Is Doomsday that interesting as a villain in a movie though ? There's so many other villains I'd rather see like Brainiac, proper Lex Luthor, or Darkseid than spiky grey hulk. If you want to do a death of superman thing I'd rather adapt elements from All Star Superman.

I'd love to see Luthor in a film if given the proper treatment. It'd be great to see him create a supervillain (Parasite, Metallo, Bizarro) for Superman to stop.

That's all I need to hear love that book.

I'm getting mighty excited to hear Zimmer's crack at Superman.

yeah going by the details provided by Junkie XL it looks like they are going all out on the score (/famous drummers): https://twitter.com/Junkie_XL

are we supposed to hear samples soon or something?

I guess it's gonna take a while before we here anything:

Next 5 weeks... Or orchestra recording, mixing, mixing, mixing.... #manofsteel

I look forward to another 2.5 hours of Superman wondering who he is and what is purpose is while brooding over something.

;)

I think the footage in the trailer showing cities falling, tornados ripping up towns, and Superman saving oil rigs provides ample evidence we'll have more than brooding character development (which I'm personally fine with).

What's funny is that not one of those \S/ symbols is the one that DC uses in all of it's marketing for Superman as a general property (Superman birthday plates, Superman...uh, Golf cozies, etc):

(Minus the lens flare, that is).

I kinda wish they'd retire it - there's at least 8 on that one sheet (and it was me asking for it, so thanks for that link!) that look better, and could be put on a T-shirt instead of the merchandising S.

Conversely, the merchandising S has only shown up on a costume in print/television/film ONCE: the syndicated series "Superboy"

Looking at that image - they did something weird to George Reeves', and the Superman Returns one doesn't look quite right, either.

They got the Lois and Clark one dead on, which is funny, because THAT one is the worst.
