Fighting Games Weekly | January 7-13 | All Eyez on Mr. Wizard

One would hope a game built around gems wouldn't make it so tedious and slow to pick gems.

I kind of wish they just added two dozen set or so of gems built into the game for quick select and the dudes at EVO decided to limit it to that.

The game doesn't need gems. They're just this extra thing.

In it's current state I think it does and it does add an extra layer of depth to it in the long run.

They would have to soup up the damage and meter values on stuff. Then again they did buff supers... tripple damage gem into supers... hmmm getting hit by kens super is gonna suck now

What ever happened to that USB thing they were talking about? Allowed you to save your gem setup for quick selection.

The gems menu is just so badly designed as well, and not thought out for quick selection. I wish they did a arcade version, so they would had been forced to do something more efficient.

I wish they supported MCs and or USB sticks and would read save data, so people could load pre sets at the versus screen, but oh wells.

Smashboards is full of tinfoil hat cockamamie bullshit right now but something I thought was funny was how there are 2 threads for donating to smash. One for Melee and one for Brawl, the one for Brawl was locked after 2 posts.

They're asking if they get a refund on their breast cancer donations if they don't win. Also planning to donate to one central donator who can pull out if they feel they're going to lose...lol, wow.

I don't think it would have mattered in unlikely scenario that SFxT did catch on. Top players would have gotten to the point of selecting their gems based upon their opponent.

Yeah fair enough. The way I see vanilla was designed around them and it was very lacking without them. Of course that could also be in part to the ryu/rufus/rolento "play to win" strategies that ignored most of the cast and depth in the game.

But I find it hard to believe Capcom ignored gems when doing the 2013 update. If anything I wouldn't be surpirsed if they made them more critical somehow. Will be interesting to see because Mr Wizard did imply there is some change.

Yep takes me back arguing about this. Unless you know who you are playing and what characters they have you will still end up changing.

Honestly if it was possible I would ban any of those fucks from even entering evo if smash did win, that's tasteless scumbaggy and fucking vile keep that shit away.

If they fix gems, ill buy SFxTK. But they likely won't because they have too much pride to overdo the poor implementation, and have already monetized the current set up via PDLC, and they would just screw those over more. This is why I feel the game is unsalvageable, the most important and interesting part of the game was the biggest let down.

Watchin Bums stream. Fab has a new team and he's playing really well. Exciting to watch
What's his team.

I liked the idea of gems but it's so poorly implemented, and that there's paid-DLC gems is a huge no-no. If it's so integral to the gameplay, every gem needs to be available for free. A big mistake, but still not as bad as the DLC characters.

Not saying it will happen, but I`m still sceptical they are actually seriously considering Melee. I`d love to be wrong.

lololol

Wow, those clowns. And yet I'd still rather have them than ponies. :o

I'm sure smashboards is just as full of internet jackasses as SRK. I wouldn't take what they say to represent the community.

SKULLGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRLS is up on Gamersgate and can be activated on Steam:

Calm down folks, game isn't out yet and we'd have heard from Ravidrath if it was anywhere near the point where it was close to release. Gamersgate has had the thing up for preorder since last Summer if memory serves.

Eh I just added to my wishlist page in my account, just giving a heads up so that any interested in it will do the same.

Oh yeah I'm sure an event like evo would LOOOOOOOVE to get busted for something as stupid as that. Man that board reads like a shitty version of gamefaqs.

Do the pricks even know how donation drives work?

As I said earlier, how Mr Wizard handled this just increased the level of distrust.

The fact of the matter is that going forward, for the smash community to have a successful event at EVO they'd have to:

1. Make multiple donation pools. Set one at APEX at the check-in counter. Another at Wintergamesfest. Organize a social media movement led by community leaders.

2. Win the donation drive. Hopefully Sony doesn't moneyhat and the bronies ignore the entire thing (unlikely).

3. Get a community representative onto the EVO staff.

4. Have that representative fight for the proper rulesets, schedule, budget, streams, logistics, etc. aka do as much work as it would otherwise take to run a major in itself, but without the final say.

5. Promote EVO among international smash circles. Get a few big names to confirm early. Get a lot of early registration so that the representative has more leeway. Create hype w/media and social networks. Invite FGC gamers to smash events leading up to EVO.

6. Get a massive amount of registrants (If done properly, Melee ought to be 3rd in attendance. If done exceptionally, it can even eclipse SF IV). Use that to maybe get a prime time spot on Sunday.

7. Host a gargantuan 3 day event without a hitch.

Thats a lot of things that have to go right. And some of it depends on a 3rd party that none of them know very well (EVO and its higher ups). So many are asking "is it worth it?", "will it even be a good event?", "wouldn't I rather just go to APEX/Genesis? a real smash tourney?", "will they treat us with respect", "are we really competing with My Little Pony? is that what we're worth to them?"

Like it or not, a lot of people are donating as much for Melee as for charity. And for those people those questions are running through their heads.

That's just in bad taste then. That's like saying you rather trust a con artist than an imagrant worker. :P

It's mainly that I know Smash players from the local scene here and they aren't nearly that level of jackassery. Ponypals just seem like a whole other level of weird from the ones that I've seen.

EDIT: Just read the smashboard thread and saw that the person proposing the "holding" account for donations is a local Smash player. Neil, you're a cunt for wanting to stop charity donations! >:(

Well there you go.

I think it's best to ignore the weird ass rule 34 branch of mlp when talking about the fanbase, as well every fanbase has that group. I get the feeling most of the perverted ass fans are attracted to the characters voices which they then associate with the character afterwards and spirals downhill from there. Show does have good dubbing.

That and some people in general are just weird check out any fanfiction site for ANY game or show.

I don't understand this charity debacle going on here. Why do you guys care about what people decide to do or not do with their money?

Wizard said on Twitter that he already had his Smash event with items, and that the community rules will be fine should Smash win.

No the debacle is the fact they want to say they are donating to get in but if they lose they want to withdrawl all donations meaning they didn't want to really donate in the first place.

If smash players want to donate to enter that's cool thats the point of the whole charity drive thing being done. But wanting to withdrawl at the sign of losing is just the sign of pure scumbagness and completely against the point of charity

i'd better not support breast cancer unless i get to play my favorite smash bros video game

I don't think you understand.

Donating for charity is good. The smash community has done many, many donation drives/tournaments in the past.

But maybe donating to that very same charity on a separate basis is better than participating in this. The smash community is worried that even if it is at EVO, it won't be treated as an equal. Thats the underlying problem here.

They probably do not want to donate in the first place. Because they just could at any time.

Sounds like Wiz will let them do what they want logistically/rulset-wise. We've had Smash at a few local events and it always impresses me. Tons of people show up (more than any fighter) and they are generally well behaved. Smash would be a great fit at EVO if they wanted to show up. I think even Wiz sees that now.

They are trying pretty hard to sabotage that though. I hope they shape up in the next month or so.

NOPE. Mr Wizard and the Cannon Brother have set an elaborate trap/lie in which these "donations" will end up in their wallet. They have to host EVO somehow and the suckers that paid for the "scholarship" did that for 2012. Now its a new gig and its this "donation" to "breast cancer". How do we even know the money will reach these breast? How do we know that Mr. Wizard isn't going to buy enough McRibs during the down season? How do we know the money isn't going to fund the next fake-netcode "GGPO" (garbage btw look at 3SO)? How do you think the Cannon brothers are so "well off" (according to many sources) that they could host EVO year after year at extravagant places like Las Vegas? The numbers just don't add up.

So many questions. The smash community has every right to question these shady practices.
