Fighting Games Weekly | January 7-13 | All Eyez on Mr. Wizard

Hopefully my donation to the SDA run gets some people to vote for Guilty Gear.
30k people, surely there must be some more fans.

Beef going HAM on smashboards :o

You know what's even more unrealistic? Thinking that this entire poll is a giant way to spite the Smash community.

I don't think its a way to "spite" the Smash community. Its more likely that it was made to see how passionate and serious the social movement really was, and to give money to a good cause along the way.

Seems more likely that a bunch of different communities are clamoring for a spot and this is one of the fairest ways to achieve that.

Yes, the MLP: Fighting is Magic and PSASBR competitive communities. Clamoring.

Come on son.

No other game in this poll has even a hundredth of the players that Melee has. Lets be real.

Good. Then don't donate and let a community that wants to be at EVO get in.

Trust me, I absolutely want Smash to be at EVO. I would fucking love it.

But only if it is a good event and managed with the best intentions and respect to the community. Thats what every game community asks from EVO, so I don't think thats unreasonable.

Who cares? I certainly don't. If they don't want to show up to EVO, doesn't really matter, does it?

And yeah, clamoring. Just because they don't have a hundredth of the players that Melee has doesn't mean shit if the Melee players don't want to show up.

I know a bunch of people would love to play VS, CvS2, 3s, SC5 or VF. I really couldn't care less about the smash community. They aren't owed anything. Neither are the others.

And that's what the winning game's community is going to get. You're not helping to do anything except foster some irrational fears.

Seriously.

I would love to see Melee there more than any other of the You Pick choices but this persecution complex the Melee heads are making up to "defend their honor" is horribly juvenile, detrimental to their image and out of nowhere. This is your chance to catch an audience that might (probably would without a doubt) be very interested in something so radically different being there and could act as a ridiculously fun experience at worst or a bridge to something bigger in the future at best. In any event, even if things don't work out, the community should at least feel happy for showing up and saying "hey, we enjoy our game and support it being anywhere there's interest for it." Contributing to the furthering of breast cancer research is also wonderful.

Theres a reason I'm posting on Neogaf and not Smashboards.

I'm throwing around the argument in my head and seeing if you guys can convince me.

Considering I'm an admin of Socal Melee, and the biggest organizer in the region, at least some of what I listed as "things that must be done to make Smash @ EVO a successful event" would include me. So I need to know if this is a cause I'm willing to go all out campaigning for, or whether it isn't in the best interest of the community going forward.

But this fundraiser is a direct result of Melee's success in the facebook poll. And frankly, if we're being honest with ourselves, its pretty clear that this entire effort was made with Smash in mind.

You petulant child. "OH THEY MADE A FUNDRAISER JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT MELEE! WAHHHHHHH"

You and your community need to get over yourselves.

just go all out. Being on EVO can open sooooo many doors.

More players, more sponsors, more exposure, more friends, more people to network with for TOs, more press coverage and etc.

WHY would you NOT want your game to be at EVO

So glad Bum is streaming more often now. When is FChamp coming? Tomorrow?

LOL @ Jill infinite on stream, I would kill myself if I got hit with that.

I think (as per my post above) that this is something you should put every effort into. Mr. Wiz already said it'd be completely community driven and the tweets have all spoken about running the event as unobtrusively as possible with the ones who are managing the event being there.

Speak up with the venues available to you between here, Twitter and the like, but don't just throw the opportunity out with the circumstances (baby out with the bath water).

I wouldn't normally respond to this because there are actually some interesting points being made here, but I don't like when words are being put in my mouth

I did not say they do not want Melee. I did not say this effort was made as a way to block Melee. I said that Smash was a primary consideration when making this fundraiser, and that is clearly evident by looking at the facebook poll.

I hope others can see my point for what it is, and not what they want it to be.

There are more than enough good reasons for wanting Smash to be there, as shown by people in this thread and by Wiz/the Cannons themselves. You and some troglodytes on Smashboards (not to call you one since you've actually been fairly reasonable) are only concentrating on the sole flimsy negative point that has little to no actual basis.

That's the last I heard. Bum's still talking about getting his house tournaments going too.

And I agree. Bum's got one of the better Marvel streams.

...If you actually need "convincing," then it's a fair assumption that you were never going to donate in the first place.

I'm willing to put in dollars, time, and work to make something like this a success. My other work in the community ought to be a testament to that.

I don't really need convincing about whether Smash at EVO could potentially be great. It can potentially be fantastic. Thats obvious. I'm really excited about that potential, and am ecstatic at the opportunity. I don't want to seem ingrateful because frankly they did not need to give us their platform to show our game off. There is some risk on their part too, and I appreciate that they are willing to go out on a limb for us.

My misgivings are more...practical. How much space will we be given? Will we get stream time? How hard will they promote for us? Who are they going to bring in from our side? What is the expectation from us as players? etc etc

Basically "will it be a good event and a good display of Smash Melee to the world?"

Thats what I care about.

I am NOT going to horsehead troll at EVO2k13 if MLP is on the main stage.

Like, forealla.

You don't have to hide the fact that you're a brony. You have friends on NeoGAF. :3

You'll have several months to work that out should Smash win. They're not going to announce the game at the last minute and then dump all the details on the winning community right there and then.

WHY would you NOT want your game to be at EVO

Devil's advocate: It brings more negative publicity than positive. The experience is awful enough that Smash players leave the community.

Last time things didn't go that well and while times change I notice that Capcom and the Capcom crowd doesn't like mlg over some past incidents.

SRK gets pissed that MLG didn't make more an effort to work them. Socal Smash guy gets pissed at being left out of the loop.

Marvel minions get pissed about being given the corner for Halo and Smash. Smash heads (whatever Smashers are called) are concerned about how big a corner they're fighting for.

I think the primary consideration was "the fgc is a pack of complete trolls who just voted for MLP, divekick or Smash to stir shit up or keep a bandwagon going. If we actually make them donate some money we will see which community is actually serious about being at EVO and in the worst case we will raise a couple of bucks for cancer research".

I wonder what Dustloop looks like right now.
Probably wondering who their biggest enemy is atm. Is it Smash, Ponies or ASW's release scheduling? lol

Make a donation and PM or email for info. Get back to us if you've got good news to share and Wizard's blessing. Then it is just a matter of fundraising from there on out.

I'm fine with either one of these winning this poll thing.

Virtua Fighter 5
Soul Calibur V
Dead or Alive 5
SSBM
SSBB

Any of these titles would add greater diversity to the lineup. Otherwise, there will be only two 3D fighters out of the eight in the lineup. That will be a real shame especially since SCV, DoA5 and VF5FS are all so recent and fresh.

It'll be hysterical if the pony game wins.

Ono should make sure Nitsuma and co. get to make the Darkstalkers game. -_-
Ono should make sure Lab Zero Games gets to make it. Then he can go play with CvS3 and Nitsuma can make next gen TvC.

*prepares for incoming barrage from people who don't know the first thing about Darkstalkers*
