I am drowning in nostalgia from all these pokemon cards.

... I just bought 5 boosters of the newer sets, and a set of 100 creature cards from all sets. WHAT AM I DOING.

Be careful, this is how it started with some of my friends last year. Now they're trying to complete the entire series and have spent close to $2,000.

I feel partially responsible for that after reintroducing them to the series.

That article has scans in it. It's awesome, tho!
Wha? Didn't even think of that. Fuck, I can't even link this freaking analysis? It has a cropped sliver of a scan, nothing more.

Awesome pic, btw -- note the eagle, stag and serpent (our three legendaries, no doubt):

The fact the four stags around Yggdrasil each have a colored gemstone in the color of the four gems Xerneas has is another great point in the article. And Yveltal's eyes being bright blue in tint, like blindness. And the X/Y/Z axis correspondence with their different realms/stations on the tree. Damn. It -is- Norse mythology.

I hope they have a Distortion World type thing that involves travelling to Niflheim and Asgard.

Also chances of a Pokemon based around Thor?

Oh my mistake, apparently the dragon in this trio would be based on Nidhogg as opposed to Jormungandr
Yep. Still the potential for Dragon/Poison, though.

Oh man, Norse mythology is amazing. I wonder what the Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres equivalent could be, in terms of drawing inspiration from Norse mythology?

Well, personally I think that they will only base Xerneas on this myth. I continue to believe that Yveltal is based on a wyvern. Google them and you'll find many Y-shaped dragons. And I prefer legendary pokemon from various european mythologies than just the norse one.

I love when mythology mixes in with certain games. That Norse mythology may be intended to be so heavily referenced in a Pokemon game is just awesome. :D

C'mon Nintendo, you already teased me by releasing in my birth month, now I'm getting restless. >__<

Why not both? Design-wise, Yveltal has elements of a wyvern, but conceptually/thematically it's based on the Blind Eagle of Yggdrasil.

Not without precedent, either: Groudon and Leviathan were based on the biblical Behemoth and Leviathan, for example.

As I said, this means that they'll use only the Norse Mythology. It's a great mythology, sure, but I'd like to see more of Europe. And I don't think that this will happen if they stick to this concept. It is interesting thought.

I am a little wary of attributing Yveltal's blue eyes to blindness, seeing as Xerneas' eyes are blue as well, but we'll see. Yveltal's are certainly lighter in tone.

But you can mix elements: Borrow some visual cues from wyverns in Western Europe, for example, and ascribe them to what is functionally a Norse analogue. Which I believe is the case here with Yveltal.

Yes, but you've met the other requirement. Have to be a junior for a certain amount of time, I think 3 months or so

Just going to assume you mean Chespin

Ooh ok, i guess i will make it before january ends then, thanks.

YES, of course i meant Froakie!.

That analysis is tops - completely convinced me. I wonder if this sort of analysis was even done with past reveals? I'd also wonder about whether the trio will be pulled from the same source, or somewhere else.

The Musketeers would've fit in nicely if they were in this rather than in G5.

Keeping Black to transfer over Pokes when X/Y come out, but playing White right now and using the PokeBuilder app to transfer over some Pokemon to go through the game with.

I think I'm going to go with:

Charmander
Squirtle
Bulbasaur
Pikachu
Eevee (to become Espeon)
Sandshrew

I was just thinking, since the vine-swinging tree part looks a bit like a gym, but could represent Yggdrasil, it would make a lot of sense if it were actually the Elite 4. And you climb up to the Champion.

Nah, I still believe it's a gym. So I guess we have a grass, a bug and a fire gym confirmed. Which also means that we should expect Pokemon from these types. :D

Well I think they showed it off because of the Yggdrasil link. It wasn't supposed to make us think of the Elite 4 instantly.

If the analogy is true, they probably wouldn't put it in a normal gym; it'd either be plot-related, and you'd catch a legendary there, or something of more significance, like the Elite 4.
