Fighting Games Weekly | January 14-20 | Debate over peaches or ponies for EVO edition

Magus: "Tekken is the best game out right now with the worst community. Most people play Marvel and SF but those games are shit and Tekken is the only actual good game." He mentioned they're cliquey and I think said they drove themselves into the spot they're in where it's inclusive.

TBQH I have a lot of respect for Tekken and it's mechanics especially so I can respect that opinion, without this turning into a whos game's dick is better kind of discussion again.

Also that Tekken isn't getting tournament numbers but walked into the lineup because it's Tekken.

Ah ok, thanks. That is probably fair enough relatively.

Although I don't watch or play it, for whatever reason, I actually want Tekken to do extremely well.

That was mentioned in the Persona conversation and how unfair it was to call that community out that way ignoring the other games are pretty much in the same boat but worst off.

Honzo also thinks KoF is doomed like GAF thinks Nintendo is.

Not at EVO? Whoever is left playing the game abandons it forever. At EVO? Brings surprisingly low entrants and kills the game.

I actually sorta feel that's what's gonna happen though, I don't expect a huge turnout.

I don't understand why so many people are ignoring Fall Classic, and coming up with their own speculation of why Winter Brawl, Final Round, and ECT aren't there.
Yeah, they probably can't talk about it, but then just drop it entirely instead of coming up with speculation they know isn't going on.

The way I see it there are several possible reasons as to why WB, FR and ECT aren't in the road to EVO:

1) EVO guys are pissed off by the Fall Classics as they see it as an act of aggression from the EC TOs - that would be a lame and retarded thing for the EVO guys to do as there's no reason why the EC guys shouldn't be allowed to hold whatever events they like
2) EC guys want to push the Fall Classics to be bigger than EVO and don't give a damn about EVO anymore - which would be a lame thing for the EC guys to do as like it or not EVO is the heart of the FGC and there's no reason why having the Fall Classics means EC shouldn't support EVO.
3) EC guys want to go all Road to IPL - Would be surprising for that to happen as the EC guys have the same way of thinking as the EVO guys. But it would be a lame thing for the EVO guys to point their middle finger at the IPL guys without giving them a chance, or not thinking about how they can work together.
4) EC guys want to go all Road to VxG - More likely as VxG have been throwing a ton of money into the community, and the source of the money is shady as fuck.

Either way one thing for sure is that EC TOs fighting with WC TOs is a bad thing for the FGC and both sides are guaranteed to suffer on the long run if that keeps up.

You mean exclusive? As in each 3d clique excluded the other 3d crowds and 2d crowds. And yeah, I could see case being made. Nothing really stopped Soul Calibur or Tekken nationals from being Namco nationals and then adding a token 2d fighter. It just worked out that B3, the Battle by the Bay, with only Capcom games added a token 3d fighter on the path to Evo.

Man I just hope Japan and Korea can make it out again. I feel like people are gonna make it out to tourneys now that it's in the line up. I think to say KOF is dead based on whether or not it appears on a stream is silly

he only mentioned Marvel being ass ;) He just said AE's been out too long

+1 for team Marvel's a bad game

He's being an idiot, because only one guy drove TTT2 into the spot it's in and that's Harada. He's the one who made a game that's too bloated and hard to get into. The Tekken community is probably far less pretenious and less cliquey than for example the anime community, you don't have nonsense like the Tekken community rooting against Capcom guys.

Magus never ceases to be wrong about everything, so I'll take him calling Marvel shit as a compliment. Especially since some Marvel-themed tarot cards would make for better Marvel commentary than him.

I never understood the whole evo points thing.
It helps guarantee a good grand finals. I'll demonstrate with a 4-man tournament.

Players:
Good Player 1
Good Player 2
Bad Player 1
Bad Player 2

With random brackets, you could get this:

Good Player 1 vs. Good Player 2
Bad Player 1 vs. Bad Player 2

Now, negating the complexity of things like a losers bracket, what this means is that you're guaranteed to get some combination of Good Player vs. Bad Player in the final round. That makes for a poor grand finals, and basically your most hype match was in the semifinals.

With seeding, you place Good Player 1 and Good Player 2 far apart, which helps ensure that they kill off all the Bad Players so the top 32 are filled with good players.

RE: The Fray Episode 7

Damn, Fubar dropping the f bomb out of nowhere, didn't see that coming. I agree with him about Injustice though, 2-3 months should be enough and they didn't have a problem with it in the past, and it's still exciting when the game is still new. But I do also acknowledge that less people have had a chance to play it at events too vs. MK, MvC3, etc.

*Listens*

Oh, THAT f-bomb.

1. I mean those guys could be against Evo, but I highly doubt that's the reason. They're even gonna be flying out Tekken players to Evo.
2. Of course they want to push their own thing, and while it is at the expense of Evo, again, I don't think they're actively spiting it, or just ignoring it altogether.
3. I don't even know where the idea of this came from. IPL and Final Round are competing events. Why would IPL want to push it then? I doubt they wanted to cancel their fighting game stuff, but they did. ShinBlanka's also got a big stake on Fall Classic, so why would he want to push something else either, especially when it could be on conflicting dates. We'll get Fall Classic details come Final Round, but we won't find out about the next IPL till well after then.
4. Again, this isn't true either. Apex was sponsored by VxG, but NEC wasn't, and the upcoming tournaments aren't either.

Again, my point was that we know Fall Classic is gonna be a thing, so if you know you can't talk about it, why bring about things that are completely unrelated?

I listened to the beginning of the Fray. This is just my guess but I think they ignored TFC just to create discussion about IPL just to make the discussion more interesting. Although EC wanting to do their own thing would be just as interesting to discuss. They also didn't have any EC guest on who could bring it up like Arturo even if they actually didn't know about it. I felt like they may have set it up that way.

There's no doubt about it, the EC guys have done something to piss off the EVO guys and the chances of the Fall Classic not being involved is extremely slim. Either way a split between the EC and WC is always going to be a terrible idea and both sides really need to think of what that is going on.

How in the world does going to Japan to win in Marvel mean you're the best Marvel player to ever live.

Mr. Wizard told people to look forward to the announcement at Final Round.
All 4 (Big E, Shinlanka, Joe/John) of those guys are working to send Tekken players to Evo.

How in the world do you get that this is an EC vs WC thing from that.

2 WC seeding spots v. 1 EC spot. Which I kind of see, but figure NCR is getting it out of respect to Evo's origins and a convenient spot for Capcom to visit.

Still a war is coming. You can smell the eastern discontent. The clashing of sensibilities.
WWE v. WCW is coming.

edit: CJ is his training partner? ChrisG has SCR easily. FChamp needs to find his Laugh.

The idea alone that EC trying to set up a bigger event for the whole east coast to try and bolster the community making WC/EVO/MrWizard or whoever upset and spite them alone rubs me the wrong way. If that is the case, of course.

I just don't like the idea of a power struggle existing in a grassroots community, especially one that boasts about how everything it does is for the benefit of the community. Even if that somehow would take away from EVO entrants, I don't see why they need to spite others from trying to build something independent that can prosper and bottom line help the community on the EC.

MrWizard on WakeUpSRK seemed kind of frustrated about it all the way he handled it but its kinda hard to infer from such few words.

Nice.

Nah, I think Bee can beat him.

You think? Bee like the overwhelming favorite dude. The only people that think Infrit can win is SoCal.

LOL there is no beef between Fall Classic and EVO. That just a bunch of made up bull shit.

Anyone like Infrit for the exhibition against Bee?
You would be crazy to considering his poor performance and how Bee has proved better than Knives and Knives has proved better than Bee in long sets. I don't think anyone actively following Marvel would put Infrit ahead of Bee.

Then again, you are thoroughly showing your early SoCal bias lately, so it's all good ;)

? I was asking if anyone likes Infrit so I could bet against them with my money on Bee

Smash
my preference melee over brawl
really deserves to be at EVO this year. It has a community that proved its greatness at Apex and the game is fun and hype as hell.

In other news Mike isn't going to be hosting the CCLive season premier tomorrow. That's an issue.

Ghost Rider's qcf+h (or maybe dp+h - can't remember) overrides morrigan projectiles. Not sure how useful that proves.
