Here is a better picture then

It's probably the simplest form of ray tracing. If beefy PCM have problems with it then the next gen won't run it either
Its nothing. Just an inside joke that someone guessed.

I could see ray tracing at a low level (very low level) for Durango. Ray casting and volume ray casting could perhaps be something though.

I know it's been talked we should expect 8x Jaguar cores in Xbox 8, but what you make of this quote from Colin Sebastian of Baird Equity Research:

"Moreover, a PC-based architecture (Intel chips in the case of Xbox) should have a number of advantages over custom-developed silicon: for one, the learning curve for software developers will be shorter than completely new technology."

Customized Random Rap Generator created with Ice Cube's input & apparently Prince working on the Audio Synth.

Beats by Dre confirmed. Pack it up, boys. Our work here is done.

This was proven to be bullshit, right Karak?!

Yes. This would be like getting to the last lap of the Lemans then turning your car around and trying to high five one of the other drivers.
Disastrous.

I bought one for 450€ in 2006. That was expensive but it ran Oblivion better than the 360 at higher res as well.
Good investment if you ask me, and I don't think current hardware is going to struggle much to run console ports better considering the next-gen consoles are not powerhouses (if the specs are correct).

If the xbox 720 specs are correct, will have more ram than we ever imagined and one of the top GPUs of 2014

In Europe the 7800GTX was much more expensive than 450$ and the point still remains that the video card alone was more expensive than the whole of xbox 360 and Xenos was a next gen GPU comparing

Speaking about random things like Raytracing. This is a cool doc. I think it was linked here earlier. Some stuff from 2009. Also goes into what Carmack has talked about.

Basically offloading the heavy bits of raytracing to extra silicon(custom chip) and leaving the normal video cards to handle the rest. A company decide to make an addon card. Don't know where they are now or if they got bought up or anything.

I'm going to post the pictures from bioware's challenge listed on cghub.com. Keep in mind it was created with UE3 and was designed to be played real time. Do you guys we'll see visual fidelity like this from next gen (minus IQ)?
More here.

Without any doubt and I would expect you will be seeing that kind of thing within leaks as well.

IQ of course will be dependent on not just the hardware but the dev and what choices they make in development.

Screw vein, give it straight to my artery.

BTW how much of an improvement (approx.) will we see in visual fidelity for open world games like ES or Fallout (my estimation is it'll look as good as Halo Reach).

Well we can make guesses about the overall power of the GPU's. Then you have the CPU's and different devs and game types using them different. Lots of VERY interesting power dynamics here. Honestly FAR more interesting than say the PS3 as those procs were not as much of a known entity as the multicore systems these new consoles will have. They also had some SEVERE limitations.

Though, and this should be remembered, EVERYTHING...EVERY SINGLE THING is a rumor right now. Until final dev kits are in hand things are always subject to change.

That being said visual fidelity is a unique thing as it can mean different things to different people.
More detailed textures-Check(with caveats)
Higher Res-Check(with caveats)
Higher FPS- Check(with caveats)
More characters-items on screen(check)
View distance improvements(check)

A poor or none caring dev can always bring a system below 30 FPS and use poor textures to free up resources. That is the problem.

I like to think of it like Dead Rising compared to Pre-360 days. Seeing that Dead Rising picture with hundreds of zombies around the card was a real shot in the head concerning overall WOW effect compared to previous stuff. Not to mention that some parts in that game had amazing texture work. I will guess than 4-6 games per system in the first year garner that kind of impression.

So Fallout(A game not requiring 60 FPS) will easily double resolution + you will be seeing a higher DirectX or OpenGL class of effects. God rays, depth of field, unique AA and other system hogs and effects you have not seen before. There is no real reason to go to a resolution higher than 1080p unless for some reason the dev aimed for downsampling. So a game like Fallout will most likely be effects heavy.

Hell, some characters in games that are about to come out already look almost as good as that or better than that.

I have no doubt the next systems from MS/Sony will pull that off with ease. Forget UE3, they'll be running UE4.

Good news if true, but top end of 2014 ? I doubt it. Besides, a 8800 radeon should not be a match for a 2014 high end Nvidia GPU (given what some have hinted at in speculation threads). I'm provably going to purchase a GTX770-780 and I expect it to easily run next-gen games at 1080p.

In Europe the 7800GTX was much more expensive than 450$ and the point still remains that the video card alone was more expensive than the whole of xbox 360 and Xenos was a next gen GPU comparing
I don't dispute that but the fact remains that for me it was a good choice, I still bought a 360 back in November 2005 but my PC could outclass it fairly easily in any games.
I don't have any reasons to believe it will be different this time.
Edit : hum I bought a 7800GT in 2006 for 450 euros....I don't know if it was supposed to be even more expensive elsewhere.

True. Cut- scenes from some games in the late years of the consoles have truly been awe inspiring. While those pictures represent work from UE3, the next ME will be developed using frostbite 2 (you know that). Makes me wonder how next gen games will look on that.
