PlayStation Mobile Thread of Indie Games, and Apps on Android/Vita

gun commando looks great, my only concern is level design looks a bit cramped but they mention the feel of shmup, which I usually associate with dodging bullet, but that didn't sound it fit with closed and narrow corridor level design. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Icon is working on a patch to add more levels to Life of Pixel, and to change the music to something more fitting the platform.

I like the game, but I don't like the bigger levels.

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/01/16/six-weeks-of-free-playstation-mobile-gaming-starts-today/

Are you looking for some fun games to help you banish those January blues? Then why not brighten your morning with this great offer: starting today, we’ll be offering you one free PlayStation Mobile game every seven days for the next six weeks.

The first title is Samurai Beatdown, a colourful 2D rhythm action brawler in which you defend yourself by tapping in time to the music

About time they gave this some exposure.

Not a PSM game but Treasures of Montezuma is pretty good as of the latest patch. It´s free to play.

Should have told you that we played the hell out of TOM Blitz (until Shikoro got the hax to get 100 millions every week), so we're pretty tired of it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Kaz. Gonna see ZooZooGoo then.

I must admit to barely paying attention to PSM now that it has launched (was kinda gung ho in the beta, though), but I want to rectify. Is there one must-have title that I should be flogged for ignoring? Or not yet?

Honestly, no. I've played a lot of these (since I write for a site that is reviewing them) and it's a pretty sorry lot. The ones mentioned so far are probably the best of the crop (along with Haunt the House), but I wouldn't call any of them must plays, either.

I'm considering Radiant Flux. Life of Pixel seems decent. It got some hate in the Vita game thread but I'm enjoying it.

positive:
- short levels
- interesting jump mechanic

negative:
- a few too many deaths from impatience
- very trial and error centric

Samurai Beatdown isn't worth playing. The levels are too long, the gameplay's too repetitive, and while there's multiple levels none feel any different than the last.

I wouldn't say that. For me, the big issues are

- The taps and rhythm feel off. It's like you find the beat the enemies attack in... and the music then tries to catch up.

- A common thing with music games is that the rhythm can be poorly-done on lower difficulties. That happens with this game. There's awkward, boring empty space at times, that feels like it'd be more fun with more fill-in.

- The last stage felt the most polished. If the whole game started from where that stage was at, and improved from there, it'd be a substantially better experience.

It's a Rhythm game that has a beat-em-up lite for a skin, rather than exploding notes, or fireworks. There's not much else like it, so it's worth it for the novelty. It's just not something you'd come back to after 1 run.

If they EVER get around to the free DLC they promised for the game, having it for free could be great, as you'll get it's updates freely too.

If it was to get the kind of refinement Twin Blade recieved from it's free DLC (Transforming it from a simple 1-trick shooter, into a game with multiple weapons, day and night cycles, multiple boss battles, an in depth story mode, combo trees, and a level up system), then it could really become something special.

I'd get the download while it's free, JUST in case something wonderous like that happens! I'd really love to see a real Hack-and-Slash with the style they started with this game.

Gun commando looks pretty cool. Any idea how well it plays?

I want to know if you can use buttons. The blog post made it sound like it was touchscreen only. But surely they wouldn't do something as silly as that? I mean, the whole point of the Vita is that is has buttons...

I realize it's a playstation mobile game, not vita, but many PSM games support buttons/sticks.

Beats Slider seems to have some serious issues booting up for me, most of the time it just hangs at the initial splash screen. Deleting it and installing it again didn't help. =\

Also, Gun Commando is great!

Pretty nice to have Beat Slider, it was one of the games that had something interesting but thought it might have not been worth getting. It turns out to be pretty good for the price you're getting.

So far, the two games they've released are the ones that quite liked but they're more B type material, as in not as popular as games like Super Crate Box. If things keep up, they might offer games like Loot The Land, more FutureLad games, Rebel etc.
