PlayStation Mobile Thread of Indie Games, and Apps on Android/Vita

What am I watching!? I stayed for the whole video and still have no clue what is happening.

You manage an ecosystem which then fight robots. I only know that because I looked it up when it was on Playism a while ago. It looks kind of fun but simple - too simple for me to have bought it for $10 on PC but a perfect game for PSM.

I just hope it isn't $10 on PSM. Japanese companies have been terrible at pricing their games so far.

Bear RPS: $3.79
incurvio: $7.49
Magic Arrows: $4.99
Nyoqix: $5.49
Eufloria (¥850) (playism published)

Well at least I might be able to read about whether it's good or not if you guys review it :P When it came out on PC I couldn't find a single review or first impression.

"Crash Planets" added too - first "user created" game according to Shane - I assume that means first game created on the open SDK

Wow, it sucks that the PS Mobile section has seemingly taken a long holiday. I was thinking maybe they would add a couple games along with the normal store updates...

This should have been available in the rest of Europe right now. There are also a lot of games which are finished for PSM that are just waiting for approval of Sony.

Once PSM is available in the Netherlands I am going to pick up Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe and ZooZooGo. Radiant Flux also looks like it is going to be fun.

I don't think the EU store is updating this week, and PSMobile seems to be an EU thing...

I know Icon games is supposed to have something released on the 9th, and hopefully more user created games.

Yea Life of Pixel. PSM is Japan/EU run (hence updates on a strict schedule no GCT)

Not just the store was shut down, all PSM stuff (submitions, registration, etc) was on hold from Dec 24-Jan8.

So there will probably be delay in user content getting released again.

Same here, annoyed as heck thatit's not available yet everywhere, just doesn't make sense.

Wow. Had no idea there was a hold. When do you think it will pick up again kassatsu?

Has anyone ever considered contacting Kemco about this? They pump a ton of rpgs on android and ios and it would be nice to be able to play them on the vita. 5 dollars for a classic snes style rpg would be pretty keen.

Anyone got any ideas of PS Mobile related hashtags on twitter to follow?

The guy from Tacs Games used PSM, but that seems to have largely been taken over by a French boy band who just released an album with those initials (Paris Sud Minute), and possibly now by a Jamaican political party (or perhaps presidential candidate)

PSMobile used to have some, but has been dead for a couple weeks.

A lot of the indies I've seen seem to just refer to a PSM release as a Vita release. I'll see a bunch of "Vita SDK" comments and such.

Sony won't let me support them...

Don't live in one of the supported regions, huh?

I've been having problems with PSM as well. Specifically the DRM. I can't connect my Vita to WiFi freely right now, and PSM games require a WiFi check to boot. I thought you'd only need to do that once as long as you don't turn off/restart your Vita. Instead you'll need to do that whenever you quit, and restart a PSM application. : /

GCT infection has spread to Japan :(

edit: surge out in Japan (¥325)

Great for FuturLab.

Bought Life of Pixel

So I like Life of Pixel, but was massively disappointed to find that every world has the exact same music, and every level has the exact same song. Graphics wise and gameplay wise I like it. Now, that other game that was released looks very interesting, but I'm hoping one of you guys will buy it to see how good it is so I don't have to spend $3.50 on an unknown :p

FUCKING hard :P

based of flash game of same name. you try to spook people. my first playthrough lasted about 40min.

They rank you on time per building, spook count, kill count and suicides

Pretty fun, there are some lite puzzle elements

I went ahead and purchased Life of Pixel, which is a simple but fun platform game. All you need to do is navigate through the level, collect the flashing gems, and head for the exit. Of course, making your life difficult are various enemies and traps. What makes this game distinctive is how it draws from the history of classic computers and video game systems from the 1980s, replicating their graphical style.

So far, I've gone through ZX81 world (Americans might recall the ZX81's US counterpart, the Timex Sinclair 1000), and a few levels of Atari 2600 world. I have only limited experience with the ZX81/TS1000, but as an Atari 2600 aficionado I can say that the 2600-inspired levels definitely look the part. The color palette and the sprites have a real retro charm.

Classic game inspiration extends beyond the graphics and into the game design. The overall feel of the game is very much like a classic 8-bit single-screen platformer, except (unlike most 8-bit platformers) you've got unlimited lives--the primary incentive is simply to complete each level as quickly as possible.

The first couple of levels are straightforward stuff, but after a few boards the difficulty begins to ramp up. You'll need to time your movement to pass extending spikes, and also learn how to best use your double-jump to reach a platform without colliding with flying enemies or hitting your head on the dangerous obstacles above. You don't need to worry about lives, which gives you room to experiment (especially mastering the art of the double-jump).

For $2, this is a cute retro-styled platformer with a good amount of challenge. I recommend it!

Pretty let down by Life of Pixel. =( Requires far too many leaps of faith; dying because there was absolutely no way to tell where an enemy was on the next screen over gets old fast.

The single song that plays in every single level is also pretty annoying.

Yeah, its a rather bad game (I'd maybe rate it.. 5/10?). I liked it initially but it fell apart the more I played. These were my impressions:

Thats the thing though, its overall not necessarily a good platformer (Despite having some early good standout levels). I wish they'd have done more something along the lines of different gameplay styles across different times. I have about 20 levels done now and the levels (despite even having gravity switches, removable blocks and some other stuff) lack the imagination of good jump& run levels. Additionally, some may be pretty nicely tuned around the jumping mechanics, especially in the first world, but the game falls apart with cheap deaths and poor level design in the multi-screen levels.

I mean, you guys are still right. Its only 2$ so its definitely worth that. But not considering the price, its not really a good game. Easily the worst game I have played on Vita so far and not anywhere near the quality of Surge/Velocity or even the proper Vita games.

Pro:
- Low Price
- Quick Platforming fix
- The jumping mechanics actually make for some interesting platforming once you get used to it.
- Changing graphics
- They mentioned adding new graphical styles to the game (DLC I guess?)
- 64 levels sounds like a lot atm...

Contra:
- ...but considering how short they are it should be more shorter levels (The longer ones do NOT work in favor of the game).
- Not enough changing other stuff (music, gameplay elements, I would have loved to see different genres too even if that evolves into a minigame collection where each genre only has 8 levels) SO much potential
- Most levels (the multi screen ones especially) are badly designed (Imagination AND challenge wise)
- Dodgy/unprecise hit detection
- Cheap deaths
- No highscore table
- No replay value

Sorry, Super Icon!
