More has to do with him being a football player being gay. I still dont think we have any active football players who have identified as homosexual. If this is the case then he just invented this so it didnt hurt his draft stock and avoid him be ostracized over it.

That South Bend Tribune article isn't a direct quote from him. I don't think he's ever been directly quoted as saying they physically met, though I could be wrong. The ND AD was asked about this and said that when he spoke to Te'o, Te'o said they "met" online. It's all very odd.

It really looks like the best hoax in history that gained legs due to ND's great season. Teo has a couple of different motives for lying about actually meeting the GF in person, the most nefarious being that he was actually in on it, the most understandable being that he was embarrassed to be having an online relationship.
It's also possible that the entire Maori football community is gay and they all help each other get into the NFL by creating fake GFs for each other.

See to me he worked out a deal with some people (RT?) to have a beard and now that the draft and all that money is coming they tried to extort him. He said no...ND used it's weight to suppress the major news outlets (remember they have major pull due to their TV deal) and little old deadspin caught it and ran with it.
This is why I think more is coming soon and it bears watching the fake LK twitter account.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it has to be the case. If he says he's got a girlfriend at Stanford then that gives him an excuse to shrug off girls at ND, when he's a Heisman trophy candidate. The girls would be all over him if he didn't do something like this.

My take is Te'o is a compulsive liar, he made this shit up and it grew out of control. Notre Dame eventually found out but covered this shit up rather than have it come out before the NC because winning, money and prestige are all that matter in south bend (which can be said of a lot of football schools, to be fair). Their entire season was hooked up to this kid, its hard to throw him under the bus. He has defined ND the past 5 months.
Eventually the university will wash their hands of Te'o and play up themselves as the victims. No one should believe it

He had a pretty bad game but he's still a top prospect and before the fake girlfriend stuff came out he probably still would've been a high pick. I imagine the media circus that's going to follow him will drop his value a bit but I can't see him dropping too much unless something like him being gay actually turns out to be true. That being said is there any way that the Jets don't draft him?
