Deadspin: (Notre Dame football player) Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend is a hoax

It is really simple. If your attorney is present it provides how you are guilty....if you did nothing wrong you do not need an attorney.

My favorite part is how he is seriously trying to have people believe that there was somebody pretending to be somebody else who would invest hours of time, daily, annually for years on the phone with him. What more evidence do you need? How can you take his word if this is what he is standing for? Come on now.

The fact that he has the stones to claim the hoax is why he got trucked over by Alabama makes it painfully clear he is STILL playing it up with the media.

Let's assume for a minute he really was tricked, what should he say in that scenario?

Yeah, that was dumb. He should not have said that. Even if it did affect his play, he should not have admitted it. It makes him look weak and could also really hurt his draft stock (his apparent inability to block out distractions and still play well is way more relevant to NFL teams than whether his girlfriend was real or fake).

• "He tried to speak with Kekua via Skype and FaceTime on several occasions, but the person at the other end of the line was in what he called a "black box" and wasn't seen."

I'm starting to think he really just was a dumb fuck/simp. He definitely lied about some things, but it was probably more out of sheer embarrassment moreso than making everything up just to get Heisman votes.

"When (people) hear the facts, they'll know," he said. "They'll know that there is no way that I could be part of this."

Seriously. Just fuck this kid. He is such a phony piece of shit.

I'm ROFLMAO. So the webcams drivers were consistently broken or their iPhone never worked. Give me a break.

Didn't see this posted yet:

http://deadspin.com/5977243/newspaper-lennay-called-manti-teo-in-december-and-said-shed-faked-her-death-to-elude-drug-dealers

Manti Te'o has told family and friends that the woman who was the voice of his fictitious girlfriend "Lennay Kekua" called him in December and said she had to fake her own death months earlier to elude drug dealers, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser has learned.

The woman, who has yet to be identified, tried to re-engage a relationship with Te‘o months after she supposedly had died of leukemia in early September, the Notre Dame All-American linebacker has told the people close to him. The account was shared with the Star-Advertiser by a source close to the Te‘o family.

According to the account, Te'o asked the woman to transmit a photo to him with a date stamp, which she did, but this did not allay his suspicions and he later told his family and Notre Dame officials about being scammed.

So did they hire a girl to talk to him on the phone? That's the obvious question but Schapp hasn't touched on that yet

How would Te'o know that though? Not really something he could answer. The purported friend of Tuiasosopo said that there was a girl in on the hoax. I doubt she was being paid, just a friend of his who also got enjoyment out of fucking with people, I would assume.

This is what I though as well. No way he'd make it up. He just embellished the relationship cos it seems strange to have an internet-only "girlfriend". He probably should have said "penpal" not girlfriend

Can someone give me an update? Do people actually believe Te'o?

Cause seriously, this slightly makes me laugh harder than people who believe that Sandy Hook was created by the media

My point is, was he talking to a girl for hours? If so, show the phone records. I'm pretty sure this was a text only relationship and all that stuff about falling asleep on the phone was BS

I just have a hard time someone cares about scamming one enough to talk on the phone for hours for a year and fake sounding like youve been in a coma.

Didn't ND claim they had phone records though? I agree releasing them would go a long way to absolving Te'o of blame.

Phone records will obviously clear him of lying if what he has just said to Schapp is true. Not too big of a request regarding the situation at hand.

Hmmm.....this would be pretty compelling evidence to support his claim.

Why hasn't this been asked before?

EDIT:

Just as I suspected: Te'o told his parents that he was going to meet Lennay, and she never showed up. So, in order to keep things under wraps (and keep things simple), he says he lied to his parents about actually meeting her. And then his dad simply relayed the lie to everyone else.

So, he managed to play well after his grandma and supposed girlfriend died, but his game suffered when he finds out that someone has lied to him?

Well, your dead girlfriend coming back to life and wanting to rekindle your relationship would be kind of troubling. But yeah, he shouldn't have said that.

Well now the ESPN ticker is saying Te'o said the hoax did NOT affect his play in the championship game. Even ESPN can't agree on what was said in that interview. Just 30 minutes ago on that ticker it said exactly what I posted word for word. I used my DVR to rewind, pause, and copy what was said.

The fact that he actually said this "hoax" affected his play during the title game should be enough proof for anyone to see that he's lying.

This whole thing reminds me of the stories I'd tell my parents when I got busted for doing something wrong as a kid.

You told them your invisible girlfriend did it?

Yet in the same interview with Shaap, he says he didn't get the confirmation of the hoax until 2 days ago. It's still not adding up

There's not one single solitary moment, from the time the relationship began picking up attention 'til now, that he's been able to keep his story straight. It's truly hilarious.

Not as interesting as if it was on camera. Why is he hiding now? He was happy to be in front of every camera when he was spewing his BS.

Here's a pic

If only espn had the guts to put an empty chair beside him.........

ESPN is as full of shit as Te'o. Whatever... I'm out on this story. No fucks should be given on it.

I believe him but I do think that blaming the BCS loss on this was a huge mistake.

They were gonna get their asses kicked even if Lennay was flashing him during the game. (but even in the small chance that it did affect him, he still shouldn't have said it; you don't make excuses)

There's a reason our justice system doesn't work this way.

The more I hear about both Manti and Tuiasopopo, the more I'm willing to believe that he was hoaxed, but embellished things a lot to hide how limited the relationship actually was. When it became a national story, it spiraled out of control, but he kept on lying to avoid embarrassment.

For some reason, I don't have a hard time believing that he's stupid and gullible.

reaaaaally

Te'o spoke of Kekua as his girlfriend several times after Dec. 6. One was at the Heisman Trophy presentation in New York on Dec. 8 to ESPN's Chris Fowler. Another was on ESPN Radio the same day. There were two other times, including a column in the Los Angeles Times on Dec. 10. He was also asked about it at a Jan. 3 news conference before the BCS title game but did not refer to his "girlfriend" directly.

Te'o said he "catered" his stories so people would think he "met her before she passed away."

"I knew that -- I even knew that it was crazy that I was with somebody that I didn't meet," he said. "And that alone people find out that this girl who died I was so invested in, and I didn't meet her as well."

Their relationship started, Te'o said, when "Kekua" sent him a friend request me on Facebook the winter of his freshman year at Notre Dame. The two then had intermittent contact over the phone.

and then.... wtffff

He said he was told Kekua was in a car accident on April 28 and was in the hospital. He said he was told she was in a coma, from which she awoke in mid-May.

Schaap asked why Te'o didn't go to see Kekua in the hospital.

"It never really crossed my mind. I don't know. I was in school," he said.

The interview was recorded. Can we get the audio? This is really shoddy "journalism" by ESPN. Schaap got access and now he's an advocate

naw man he's totally innocent. he's really is that fucking stupid.

man i love Bomani Jones.

@bomanijones she had cancer and was runnin from the dopeman. that's an exhausting life, jack.

Every time he's on the LeBetard show he kills it.

Talking about Carson, CA.

"They call that place C-Arson you fill in the blanks, when they list Carson in the phonebooks it comes up Compton... It's like that. On top of that I wanna know what kinda funeral is going down in Carson like this."

Had an awesome lil rant about black coaches not being hired in one of the many openings in the NFL today on LeBetards show

So how often does ESPN allow athletes to do these off camera, recorded interviews?
whenever they just paid billions of dollars for the rights to a college sport, that they biasedly cover, and hype the shit out of future nfl players. this bit them in the ass, and they, and manti are attempting to fix this mess

It's best to not leap to conclusions people. Time and time again we see the Internet jump all over a story, only to look silly days later.

I hope I'll be okay in thinking that he's a gargantuan dumbass, and that he's a humoungous(ly terrible) liar.

I think I'll be okay.
