Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

I am out of school for like 25 years
I am on Facebook etc. but don't really care to spend much time there
I dont find japanese girls in school uniforms hot
I rarely play japanese games as the (anime) style usually gives me nothing

Still a recommendation? The only helpful ones would probably be from people like me who got hooked anyway!
Well, it did hook Jeff "anime is for jerks" Gerstmann of GiantBomb.com. The thing about it is that it's very well written and designed, so it does tend to appeal to a much wider audience than your usual JRPG. It is very much a JRPG though, and takes a good while to get going.

EDIT: Top of page, give in to the price and buy Earth Defense Force! You don't want the bugs to win, do you?

Thanks, I think I will give it a try once I have a little more time than some short train rides (think Sonic Racing will be better for those).

Close to top recommendations:

- Stardust Delta. Graphically not as PS3 with 3D glasses, but that is about it. Awesome game and even took care of some smaller gameplay gripes of PS3 version. At that price, a no brainer.

- Hori Screen protector. Got it only because of less visible fingerprints, not really for protections. Was REALLY EASY to apply with only a few air bubbles on the edges which where gone without problems. Watch the YouTube for how to apply.

I bought Subsonic screen protector after I got a small scratch in the upper right corner of the beautiful OLED screen, So far so good, the screen protector was easy to place on the screen and it doesn't hamper the touch controls noticeably

Suffice to say, I will never pack my headphones with the Vita again

What an incredible game! 40 hours in P4G and still far from done. I didn't know I could even get interested back into JRPGs anymore.

It DOES take a while to get started if you are not a fan of the series. It did take me a few tries before I got hooked.

Thats what P4 does to people and the reason I'd say everyone should consider trying it out. Its different, refreshing and super addicting and appeals to more than just typical JRPG fans.

I dont get why people dont use a screen protector from day one. Mine doesnt affect the screen at all and the image quality isnt affected either. I might need to replace it in a few months though, but for not getting scratches on my screen? Good deal.

Hey guys! First post on GAF and I wanted it to be on the Vita thread ( I love my Vita :) )

So I need some advice in regards to both GOW from the PSP, and how they are on the vita.
I have a PS3 as well, but I usually don't get much access to it since it's in the living room and there's usually someone watching TV in the house, and honestly I prefer to play on the Vita overall.
I know that obviously the PS3 versions are better, since they are HD "remakes", but I wanted to know if you guys think the PSP version still holds up well on the Vita, or if the difference is too big and I should go with the HD versions.
I'm asking because I'm a bit sensitive (not much, but still) when it comes to framerates and jaggies.

Any advice and impressions would be great ( videos from youtube don't really cut it since everything is filmed with crappy cameras )!
Cheers!

Welcome!

How about getting the PS3 HD versions and use remote play to play on vita? And you can switch between PS3/Vita.

Wow, I would've never thought about that!
How well does the remote play work? Is there any drawback to it?
Thanks!

I believe only God of War 1 and 2 support remote play.

I've played the PSP games on the Vita and I thought they looked great, but it might be a better deal to get all 5 games on PS3 (the God of War Saga would probably cost the same as getting just the two PSP games on PSN). Then you could play two of the games on the Vita and the other three on the PS3.

Just finished MBA, great game.

Next in line is either Gods Eater Burst or Little King's Story but I can't decide which to start next.

I've tried and tried, but I've never been able to get into a jrpg. Never. But I got my kids a vita for xmas (heh), and I couldn't ignore the praise P4G was getting. Now I understand.

For me, it went like this:

The presentation and story hooked me right away. I got to the first real "dungeon", didn't really understand the leveling system, got my ass kicked over and over, and got frustrated. I would fumble around in battles. Powers had these obtuse names, their effectiveness seemed completely random, and I never had enough HP or SP. To be honest, I thought about just moving on to another game, but the presentation was just so damn awesome.

Then I realized....I must embrace the grind, something I usually hate. And grind I did. Quickly the arcane names and leveling system started to become familiar. I could see my skills improve. Battles became fast-paced. I was able to understand and develop strategies. I came up with a formula to defeat the boss, and when I was ready, I went in with confidence, and laughed as she fell under my sword. Now I understand.

So, even if you are not a jrpg fan, here is why you should try P4G:
- The presentation (fantastic music, menus, style, art) are all top notch, triple fucking A quality. Really charming and fun. The game doesn't take itself so seriously.
- Good story and characters. Fairly well paced introduction to the many, many characters and their roles.
- Battle system (once I finally figured it out) is fast and fun. Persona's and their powers are cool looking. Part of the fun is mixing and matching to see what creative new powers result.
- Controls seemed flakey to me at first; either moving too fast or too slow. But now I'm able to quickly maneuver with precision.
- Many save points allow for quick jump in and out sessions. It loads fast and the menus are snappy.

I've played for many hours and have not tired of it yet. It is unique, and if you give it some time, it will grow on you.

Took about 20 hours for me before really getting into the groove of things and getting into the characters. I still don't see the best game/rpg/jrpg ever like so many others but it's better than it was in the first 20 hours.

Yep, good write up. As I said countless times, EVERYONE should try this game, even if you dont necessarily like JRPGs.

Man I don't know if they are on any other store but the Jpn one but the Nikoli puzzle games are amazingly well made and I love that they have trophies. They had a bunch of them for PSP too but the Vita ones are consistent and better.

Otherwise Everybody's Golf seems like a safe recommendation, the game is harder than you would imagine and takes a long time to clear content.

Yes. I have a hard time getting into jrpgs. I was playing more of P4G this morning and was trying to figure out why I am able to stick with it. I think it is because of the story and setting. Obviously the gameplay is great, but the story is easy to follow/not confusing, it is in a familiar town setting..etc. I think most other jrpg's lose me when they get extremely convoluted and difficult to understand.

Don't know but I want to know too ;)

Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lca7Fg0RDpw

Played two PSP games on PS Vita:
- Resistance Retribution looks good, the low resolution gives it some vintage style.
- Motorstorm Arctic Edge looks OK, but pretty aliased. Wouldn't play if I wasn't such a huge Motorstorm fan.

Hm..so I have seemed to overlooked remote play, probably due to the fact that I do not own a PS3. After watching this video, I am impressed. I feel like there is a lot of potential here. Any word if Sony plans to expand this feature with the PS4? (I can't see why they would't, this would be awesome if most to all games had this. I would definitely go Sony next-gen.)

Word.

I can't realistically feel any difference in the touchscreen either, and the screen looks great with it on. If I was nitpicking I could say that in extremely bright light, if you're outside in the middle of summer, it looks a little off, but not enough to dampen the experience.

Well worth it for the peace of mind.

I agree, it has a lot of potential but I don't think Sony will continue with it. I actually think they'll kill the vita off and it'll be their last portable console.

You bought Stardrone? How is it? Worth 2 dollars?

Didn't actually play it yet, been busy with work and focused on some other games at the moment. However, I checked out a gameplay video that looked interesting and hectic and colorful so for $2 for cross-buy, I figure I've wasted more money on worse (*cough* MH3FU *cough* [not that it's a *bad* game, it's just not a game for me...]). Usually, if I see something is on sale and it's at a price point that makes me say "hell, that's cheap for that, it won't be cheaper (probably) in the future and I think I might like it", I usually chance it and pick it up.

Here's the trailer that made me chance it for $2:

Looked colorful and fun.

I assume you mean Freedom Unite, and I feel the same way. Monster Hunter is far too slow for me.

Yes, I think so. Whatever the PSP one is (that had the exploit even... if I had used that, that might have made it worth the $10 I paid, but I didn't).

The second Vita analog for camera seemed good, but made me wonder how fanatical the people who wanted/loved/played it on PSP for hours were. :)

So I just discovered remote play and it makes me wish more games supported it. Started playing GoW because of the posts above. Other than the touch controls getting in the way sometimes, I'm enjoying playing it on the Vita very much. Other then that i've been playing P3 Portable which seems fine so far. Still plan on getting P4G in the near future.

Cloud storage really needs to work with PS One classics and other games besides just Vita games. It would be really nice to play some classics on my PS3 at home then play from where I left off on my Vita when I'm on the go.

Let me perch in here. The MH thread is a mess. I should've seen it coming

Just stopping by to offer my condolences for Carl. I have both a 3DS and a Vita and yet that thread made me irritated. I left before I got myself in trouble too. Is PSN still down? I wanted to update my Music Unlimited for my Vita but I can't log on.

It's back up.

And yeah I had no idea that Music Unlimited required you to sign into PSN to do -anything- on a web browser. There isn't an offline mode for PC :/

Literally can't post about any handheld without some form of shit going down. D:

Also, just went on the browser store and there was a banner ad for NFS: Most Wanted PS3 DLC. We're never getting any DLC for Vita, are we? :(

It's up :D also bless my 3DS/Vita bro

Monster Hunter exclusive to the 3DS:

I, and I'm sure most of the western world, ain't even mad. Because that game sucks.

Give me PSO2 already, Sega.

The best part about these threads is I always have a good laugh but never post, you all should do the same.Anyways time for some Velocity I guess.

I've absolutely no idea how anyone can play MH without dual sticks.

Any new videos of Dead or Alive Vita recently? I saw the PS Blog post and the "Offisial" site, but they had nothing but screens (bullshots?).
