The federal tax rate did not go up for you, period. Obama didn't raise your taxes a penny in his time as President.
Payroll tax cuts expired as part of the fiscal cliff negotiations. Republicans would call this "broadening the base".

Since your going to talk in absolutes with all the graces of a 15 year old rebelling against their parents I will return your sentiment with an equally smart ass response. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Did+obama+raise+my+taxes

There’s just one problem with this sentence: The expiration of the payroll tax reduction is not a “tax hike.”

When originally enacted in December 2010, the 2% reduction was originally scheduled to last only one year, its finite nature evidenced by its description in the statute as a “payroll tax holiday.”

The question of whether to renew it was on the table. It was not renewed. The remark about broadening was just snark on my part.

Look at all former presidents. The job ages the shit out of everyone who holds it. I would guess the stress and long hours gets to you.

Fair enough.

I guess the Democrats wanted revenue from wherever they could get, and the Republicans showed they only put up a fight when it comes to taxes for the rich.

No. It was enacted to stimulate the economy since the recession was taking longer to get out of than anticipated. It has nothing to do with democrats "wanting to get revenue from wherever they could get." Its purpose had been fulfilled, so there was no reason to continue it.

That said, the GOP consistently has fought harder for cuts on the top 2 tax brackets than anything for the rest of the country. Unfortunately.

PS: I got New Year's off 3 weeks ago. That doesn't mean my company increased my hours the week starting January 7th. Which is what you're claiming the payroll tax holiday expiration is.

Is that last paragraph directed at me? Read up the page...

Still, it's completely fair for workers to feel slighted by the Democrats for not even pretending to care about extending the payroll tax holiday (as many people do). 77% of American households are now feeling the pinch because Congress decided that recovering those revenues was worth risking the negative demand shock to the economy.

In fact, 'decided' is the wrong word. There was no debate. There was no (public) weighing up of options. The Democrats wanted revenue, and this was an easy grab. The Republicans weren't going to put up a fight.

Is there really no argument to be made that the holiday ought to continue? Has its purpose definitively been fulfilled? To pretend this is black-and-white, and that there was 'no reason' to push for an extension is a bit absurd.

I already conceded the same sex marriage point and while very important to individual rights I feel the topic has become a distraction from some much more serious issues like the out of control spending habits of this government.

And as far as wars go, yes he "ended" it about 3 years to late. Our miltary spending is still out of control. Also he is going to war in Mali without Congress.

i dont think either of us are qualified to guess when we should get in or get out with our military. saying that we're "going to war" in Mali is a stretch, as well. It's like turning a blind eye to the issues that are happening there.

it would have been irresponsible for us to leave Iraq that soon, especially when the Iraqi government wanted us there for a little bit longer. Once they didn't need us, we left, that was that.

Not only did government spending go up but so did taxes, i'd not have a problem with paying more taxes if Wasington could put the check book away. But now we are way past spending out money and into spending our great grandchildren money.

Why would you pay taxes then?

separation of church and state is ridiculous in the US
placing your hand on the bible while shouting some oath is over the top

instead of the bible use the constitution or some shit i dunno

They can use whatever they want and not all have used a bible.

goes farther then that
they had some pastor giving some big speech on obama's last inauguration too
basically preaching infront of the world press

that shit would never fly here

Separation of church and state is still in effect. In the US, I understand it to mean simply there isn't a state sponsored religion and nobody is forced to follow any type of religion. Doesn't mean political leaders can't mention, follow or reference it, however.

My main point is, (and I did not properly express this before in this thread) a lot of people that hate Bush seem to love Obama and the poeple that liked Bush seem to hate Obama. From my perspective if you hate one you must by extension hate the other, same goes if you loved one. laws for) but for the things that will take generations to fix they are the same person.
There are myriad other policy differences, and this being the case it is clear you are not particularly familiar with them. But the fact that Obama voted against the bills funding the Iraq War completely invalidates this point out of hand. :-/

Nearly all of the things that are policy overlaps between Obama and Bush are things that I do not like about Obama. That doesn't mean that they are anywhere near as similar as you are postulating.
Uh you got that wrong. I wish Supreme Court would become more conservative and supported individual rights, see the upholding of the Obama Care Tax.
If possible, could you elaborate on the individual rights you want supported by a more conservative court?

Apparently Lupe Fiasco got removed from the stage for performing the anti-obama lyrics in "the words I never said"

I hope you're not being serious. He repeated one song for half an hour. That's not a show that's being obtuse. It's sad anyone is trying to make this about freedom of speech when he was left alone for half an hour. Good for him for doing this, but lol at people trying to make this about anything he said concerning Obama.

Kind of odd switching between all the channels and spotting how the quality of the picture is varying. CBS by far as the best picture, CNN the worse.
