Official THQ Auction Results [Up2: Purchase Prices, Runner-Ups Revealed]

Wait, if Turtle Rock was allowed it bid, why didn't Vigil bid on themselves?

Because Turtle Rock isn't owned by THQ, so they can bid to buy out their publishing deal. Vigil on the other hand was a fully owned THQ studio, so who exactly would bid? Who would put up the money? How can they buy themselves from themselves?

Vigil would have to be bought externally.

I'm glad that Volition and Relic got new homes now, but Vigil?

Looks like to me that nobody even bothered to make a bid for them, sad, very sad indeed.

I'm really surprised nobody bought vigil. Wouldn't it just be 0,5 mln? Seems like a steal for such a team.

Maybe it's because they didn't have a near finish product like most of these studios seem to. So they wouldn't care to fund development for a few years as opposed to a few months and already have a product out the door.

I'm not an expert.

Hold up SEGA bought Relic for 26 mil? Is that wise considering their current financial situation?

sega is currently being restructured because the company that owns it (sammy) was tired of wasting money..but sammy itself it's pretty wealthy

Happy to see Ubisoft not buying Volition.

So South Park is still on track for a March 5th release?

I suspect it'll be at least a few days before we get an affirmed release date. With the game being virtually complete, though, I don't see it releasing any later than March/April, unless Ubi would prefer to have Steamworks removed in favour of Uplay.

It doesn't -have- to be external. Someone in the company, or the person running the studio, if independently wealthy enough, could make a bid to buy the studio and run it. But clearly no one was. Vigil will forever be the tragic part of the ending to the THQ legacy. :(

Where are you reading that? I only see Giant Bomb saying that.

Meanwhile, in the dungeons of Castle Ubisoft... a hooded man, bound in chains, is dragged down a corridor of hewn stone, soaked in blood. The hooded man is roughly thrown at the feet of the dark overlord of the realm. The hood is removed revealing a battered yet familiar face. The man looks up at his captor and his eyes widen in terror as he realizes where he is and what is happening.

The dark overlord laughs a laugh so dark and grim it chills the bones of the dead. Then he speaks. "Welcome home, Patrice. We've missed you."

Akward first day at work from a company he left 2 years ago xD

I didn't know the game was almost done. That's good news. Yay!

I don't think removing Steamworks for uPlay will result in any delay for the game... For the console version, the PC version would likely be delayed regardless by Ubisoft, so the extra month is perfect to do the change of DRM.

Wait so this auction was for THQ Studio and currently in development but the legacy IPs is another story?

does this mean Volition got separated from Red Faction and Saints Row for now?

Contract says that Volition and Saints Row were sold together, but it sounds like that was it. Red Faction and other older Volition IP weren't included.

Same for Relic... they were bought along with the Company of Heroes IP, but none of their other older IP was included.

What's with the huge discrepancy between runner-up and winner for Volition? They just went and raised the bid by $17 millions?
